We need Middlecore Mode because Softcore is to soft and Hardcore to hard

1. Death Penalty Mechanics

  • Levels 1 - 60:
    • Experience Loss: Upon death, players lose 75% of their current level’s experience.
    • Maximum Loss Limit: Experience loss is capped at 75% of the PREVIOUS level. For example, if you die at level 55 with 50% experience, you drop to level 54 with 75% experience. Further deaths won’t reduce experience below this threshold.
  • Paragon Levels 1 - 200:
    • Experience Loss: Upon death, players lose 50% of their current Paragon level’s experience.
    • Multiple Deaths: Up to 2 previous Paragon levels can be lost if players die repeatedly.
  • Paragon Levels 201 - 300:
    • Experience Loss: Upon death, players lose 75% of their current Paragon level’s experience.
    • Multiple Deaths: If players continue dying, they can drop as far as Paragon level 200.

2. Death in Raids and Dark Citadel

  • Death Limitation: Players are limited to 3 deaths. Dying more than three times in these areas results in being ineligible for any rewards.

3. Gear and Repair Costs

  • Repair Cost Increase:
    • Repair costs are increased by 50% across all gear.
  • Special Materials for Ancestral Gear:
    • Ancestral Gear now requires special materials for repairs.
  • Permanent Gear Destruction:
    • If gear isn’t repaired in time and is destroyed, certain gear types (Ancestral, Unique, Mythic) can no longer be repaired.

4. Revive and Respawn Penalties

  • Revive Penalties:
    • Accepting a revive results in an additional 15% damage to the player’s gear.
  • Revive Time Increase:
    • Revive time is increased by 3 seconds.
  • Post-Revive Debuffs:
    • After reviving or respawning, players deal 10% less damage for the next 2 minutes.
    • They also take 15% increased damage for 2 minutes, and runewords are deactivated until they are out of combat for at least 5 seconds.

Wait for season 6 and you’ll get middlecore for free!

“Paragon level”, much like D3 will be shared. Only level 1-60 is the “hard”, per character, part. Will make hardcore much more approachable! D3 Hardcore was fine I reckon… and D4 hardcore will be fine in just under 5 days too!

Won’t ever happen in D4, but maybe if all the idealists on the forum got together and made their own game. Nudge nudge wink wink eh? Eh? Yea I tried.

wow i fully expected this to be a pure troll post from the title, but no you really have put some thought into this

POE did a 5% xp loss on death and it was one of the most hated things of all time for POE and you want to make it 75% and possible to delevel?

How would this work with gear? Your gear unequips and becomes unusable?

What if your last lost paragon is for a glyph? What happens to the glyph? Its invalid but still slotted?

Permanent gear destruction??? What happens if your gear is broken and you have to leave unexpectedly? What happens if your gear is broken and dont have the required items to repair it?

What even is the point of permenent gear destruction? What does this accomplish or enforce or prevent?

Did you really think this post through on the repercussions?

These are awful, horrible, and short sighted suggestions for a new unneeded difficulty nobody is asking for.

Well to be fair one person is asking for it. That’s typically how most ideas are pitched on this forum. It usually stems from self-interest first, then people either gravitate toward the idea or they don’t.

Again I don’t see it happening for D4, nor would I ever imagine they would even give it a look, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be in another game.

I cant think of any game that has ever had a middlecore difficulty level designed like this. Its not good. Tons of issues.

Poe wasn’t very popular when it came out either, look how far it’s come. All I’m saying is you never know what will interest people until it comes out and people try it. Much like the hundreds of ideas you’ve posted.

Now I’ll admit a lot of them I didn’t agree with, but I admired your tenacity and drive to go into detail for your ideas. Just like the OP is doing. Again though you’ll never see this in Diablo, but if the OP made their own game, you never know, some might be interested in it.

What is your opinion on the merits of this idea Iggy? Do you support this idea?

See if you can find one of my posts that has glaring issues like this post = permanent item destruction? Come on. Get real. Nobody is going to go for that. Its DOA.

Losing XP is bad design tbh. In so many ways.

But deaths definitely should matter more.
My favorite system remains a “survival bonus” system, seen in various other games.

You want deaths to matter more you can use a simple rested XP bonus. (Yes i know its mmo element whatev i think its good). Die and you lose some rested xp.

I agree with you, but you also have to remember we have games out there that are PvP oriented where people can take your stuff upon death, among other penalties to the player. Now granted I don’t play these games, but some people do. There’s a niche for everyone out there, including the OP.

We arent talking about other games. This is D4 and the notion to design a difficulty around permanent item destruction is ludicrous. There is no niche for this post. This post is just flat bad. Anyways time to move on. Spent enuf time here.

Permanent item destruction =

I’ve already moved past D4, as I established it would never happen in this game.

Rested XP definitely is a version of a survival bonus.
Albeit the issue with that one (and with losing XP within a lvl for that matter) is that it stops working when you reach max lvl.

So better survival bonuses is stuff like; Increased Magic find, Gold find, Crafting material find, and so on. Which are then lost/reduced by each death, until you build it up again.
You always want those.

Im cool with this version as well except no on magic find. Magic find should never return in any form.

It already exists. Increased difficulty level => more magic find.

Bliz does not share my view but its what players expect so I guess its ok. Other option is that magic find does not make more items drop but makes ones you get better so instead of a 4 blues and 1 rare dropping you get 3 blues, 1 rare, and 1 lego.

DAoC had xp loss on death. people loved it because they could exploit it by suiciding to stay in the lvl 24 battleground and grief people who were trying to learn how to PvP lol
