We need damage meters on world bosses

This is not with the intent of bullying or shaming last place players, but incentivizing people to inspect and look at the gear the top 5 is wearing and get ideas of legendaries combo they didn’t think of.
This was THE feature that I loved in OG world of warcraft, sooo many games dont do this. I don’t care about leaderboards, achievements or being the quickest to gain 1 millions gold under 1 hour, I wanna know how efficient my boss killer build is !!!

This could go perfectly in the upper left corner.

If there is some worrying about meta world bosses build or whatever, dont show everyone damage, just my damage and my ranking. That way if I am 3rd out of 10 players, with 10 thousand damage done (just an example), I will know that i’m doing good but can also keep optimizing it. Dont need it in the whole game neither, just on world bosses.

I disagree. All that would do is encourage cookie cutter builds and anyone outside of this would be seen as “not good enough”. Save that for the MMOs.

but world bosses are one of the MMO components of the game mate, + you cant kick out players who would be ‘‘seen as not good enough’’. It also doesn’t provide more bonuses to be first, other than bragging rights. So really, none of your points stand up to much, respectfully.

You can bet groups would be autoexcluding the lowest performing class or classes in the endgame if one was consistently the lowest.

What we are trying to avoid is everyone thinking that they “must” use a certain build. Damage meters emphasize cookie cutter builds, because people will feel self-conscious for not being able to put up big numbers, so instead of creating their own builds, they will look for the cookie cutter builds that the top players use. Not being able to see everyone’s dps prevents this because no one truly knows who is doing the most damage so they won’t feel discouraged to try their own build.

Just because you can’t kick players out like in MMOs doesn’t mean players won’t feel inferior when they see others who are better optimized. It will make them feel they aren’t contributing in a meaningful way. Just because there are some MMO components, doesn’t mean players should be trying to introduce more MMO components that are not intended.

The bragging rights should go to everyone who helped take down the boss, not the 1 or 2 players who are better optimized.

I’ve seen this sort of thing go toxic real fast. It’s not usually the top dogs talking all the smack either, it’s usually the second tier players giving all the grief to the lowest players. This is pretty common toxic MMO behaviour. Not everyone playing the game can have high APM due to high latency slow connection issues and in some cases physical ailments that keeps them from tapping buttons as fast or keeping up with complex rotations and dishing out high damage. What’s next a death counter so we can come down on people even more?

If i remember right nightmare dungeons have a deaths counter for your attempt?

That isn’t the same as a death count on a world boss. You can bet if one person does like 15 times and the rest fit he group dies only a few times than at least one person is going to go off in chat about it.

I’ve been griefed in another game about low DPS from a guy fake tanking. I stopped casting my group heal skills and shields and let him die instead. If you are going to show up on a fake role to skip the queue and talk a bunch of smack at least know how to perform that role and bring some skills to support yourself. Didn’t help we also had a fake healer. Fun times in MMO’s let me tell you.

And that’s why we may never see group finder in this game either.

You are right, I cant remember how many deaths exactly but they confirmed that in one of those developer update.

I would imagine a lot of people will keep their character private and you won’t be able to inspect them…

The death counter in nightmare dungeons is there so you can’t just death walk your way to the end. If you are not strategic about how you approach nightmare dungeons, then you will keep dying and once you reach the limit, you don’t get the reward. It’s also possible you may get a reduced reward instead of no reward. I’m not 100% sure how they have it setup.

Your op said that other players would be able to see everyone’s numbers. Now you say, that it would just be for you to see and no one else. If it is something that only you would see, then I guess it’s not going to cause anyone an issue.

I would edit your post and remove d*******s before someone reports you.

Yes, there will always be elitists in every game, but the idea is not to give them ammunition to fuel their nonsense against other players, like letting them be able to see how everyone else’s damage compares to their own. That is why MMO games with these features can be very toxic for many players.

Personal metrics are fine. I would advocate for something g to track my own DPS as well as something to track my APM so that I can better understand to pacing needed to get through certain fights in the game. I would like a way to access buff and debuff uptimes as well to improve skill rotations and gear to better optimize my builds. Again all private information, I don’t need others to see my metrics nor do I care to see the metrics of others.

My understanding of what they presented in the stream was once you reach the death count for the nightmare dungeon, you are kicked out, and have to get a new sigil.

I must have missed that. Thanks for the info.

We already know on the PC side of things someone will develop a mod to do just that.

No, we don’t!
Having a damage meter never taught someone how to play their class, it never taught them strategy. It’s not a measure of skill.

it’s a measure of how well your build is put up together. Anyways the official word is that we will get either some kind of damage meter or a end of mission report kind of thing, Rod Fergusson said himself, so this post is a moot point

yeap, please add personal metrics. I’m in SOO MUCH LACK of it

Was that an option? If so then I would always keep mine private.
