I think Diablo 4 needs to have a system like Poe (Maps) and last epoch (echoes) but it needs to have a social aspect to it because that’s one of the big things I like about D4 over those other two games as I see people all over the world.
If we had a system like that we could mix in Paragon glyphs xp map, uber boss map, Obducite map, character XP Maps. With increasing difficulties Maps for better Rewards
With a system like this You can get rid of nightmare dungeons, the pit, sitting in a room killing a boss over and over all that would be rolled into one system.
Unfortunately, core system stability is virtually non-existant and this map system would build upon a foundation of a deck of cards that is changed out every season or every other season.
Would be another thing for them to have bugs with and unintended outcomes.
I think Diablo 4 needs to have a system like the other Diablos (Campaign Cycles)
I think Diablo 4 needs to have a system like the other Diablos (Randomly Generated Dungeons)
I think Diablo 4 could really benefit from having a system like the other Diablos (Loot Chase)
Maybe Diablo 4 could use a little more Diablo.
If we are going to lean more into Path Of Exile I think Diablo 4 could really use more map variety. Releasing a whole new Nightmare Dungeon Strongroom mechanic and only having 1 layout? Not a single new Nightmare Dungeon? Pretty poor showing. Remember when they released a whole new Horde mode and that only had 1 room. The Pit probably reads better on paper than it does to anyone running it. Oh no it doesn’t they just reused maps for that.
I think the game is long overdue to start adding some variety into the game.
6 month dev cycle to stack recycled nightmare dungeons and plant pillars in a single room layout. Whatever guys.
Can the seasonal teams be given at least 1 environmental artist. Big Ask Rod I know.
I dont know if it necessarily needs a maps system.
But it does need a meta progression endgame system, which in those two games consists of the Atlas and the monolith/factions.
Main reason for this is you are dumped into the first available server. I really hate this. This is one of the reasons for the lagging and teleport crashes. Diablo 4 does not have dedicated US/UK/Asia servers. I am so tired of the chinese bot accounts spamming in world chat.
I do want to trade but these dupers make it so hard to pay attention to the legitimate players wanting to trade so i just dont enter that chat anymore. I trade with my friends/clan mates and sometimes just give them stuff that i was going to junk anyway to get them a head start.
Going back to your point, they just need to allow everything to drop from everywhere and let your glyphs (slowly) gain xp over the course of playing provided they are in your paragon board.
What D4 needs is something never seen before . That something also has to be unique, because anything you do in game feels the same. There’s 0 difference between Undercity , Pit , Hordes or NM Dungs and those were supposed to be 4 different endgame loops…
In PoE2 Ubers , Maps , Sekhema , Chaos and Atlas Bosses feels different , that’s what makes people having 3-4k hours in PoE2 and only 200-500 hours in D4.
Yes, the main advantage of playing D2 over D4 is that it always felt like a new game. The dungeons were challenging, and the unique boss encounters were always a surprise. Who hasn’t died to a group of elites with freezing auras? D4 needs the open world to be changed… during hunger week, all the monsters in Kyovashad have more health and give more gold, etc. This could have been chosen by the player or requested by each player. This would make each restart every three months unique. -The open world needs to be alive. It should have unique enemies in each region.
A map system would be nice but we already have nightmare dungeons. I doubt they would scrap the entire system. Instead they need to change the dungeon layouts to be less awful and more fun. Too much backtracking and winding circular corridors. In POE there are only 2-3 maps that are a complete circle. The rest are either wide open or compact with doorways. POE maps feel really fun to kill monsters in. Diablo 4 dungeons feel tedious.
What are you selling to vendors, & why? I’ve got a perfectly functional “scrap all” button, & I get mostly worthless gold hand-over-foot, so no need or even desire to sell anything to vendors.
As for the thread, I hear that PoE has a map system end game. I have very grave doubts Blizz will – or even can – implement such a thing in D4.
Their map system involves a randomly generated map when you start the endgame, you first need a map (item found), and essentially you go into a Pit / Grift upon opening it. After completing it, nodes open up for you to choose from and pick the next route.
The bigger difference is you can enhance these with items. Poe has a plethora of ‘orbs’, crafting materials used to enhance your gear to some extent. These can be used on the maps themselves. So think of crafting your own NMD sigil with random affixes but that’s used for their endgame system.
It also has its own passive tree to invest points into as you progress in difficulty tiers. So the higher you go the more points you have to spend in this tree. They’ll add things like more encounter, more rewards, better chances for maps to drop, etc.
This passive tree will apply to any map you take on, even if it’s a lower difficulty tier one. The issue sometimes was finding enough maps to sustain going in constantly. Think of Stygian stones but much rarer drops, especially for the higher end tiers. Since each map that drops is assigned a difficulty tier.
The closest comparison to maps/Atlas in D4 is NMD and Pit.
But the Atlas/maps has a TON of customization and farming routes.
In D4 you would just say im farming the Pit and thats the end of it.
In PoE, nobody says im farming the Atlas.
Its like… -I’m doing Harbinger on Dunes T16 8 mod corrupted maps using these scarabs and this Atlas tree.
I’m doing Containment boxes on T17 Fortress.
Mapping as a whole has hundreds of different farming strats and variations of the same strats.
What i miss with D4 is the concept of farming strategies. Creating some kind of an ownership to what i am doing.
Diablo IV definitely needs something at the end to tie everything together. My thought is that the Paragon board system should be moved to the very end, and that is the thing you use to do this. Have the map have a “basic” pathing idea that you can upgrade with your points or something, and then have nodes that drop from monsters that you hunt for that can “upgrade” the nodes on the map, overwriting what is there, and providing you with more pathing options and/or more specialized powerups that you can tailor to your specific build.
