⚠ Way too much RNG in this game!

I understand that ARPG’s use RNG systems but in Diablo 4 there is WAY TOO DAMN MUCH RNG!

Please, take a look at this @Blizzard.

-How to optimize your gear-

Step 1 - First, you need to drop an item with the right stats for your build. (RNG)

(If you are lucky and drop an item with GA’s, you need to be lucky AGAIN to have the right stats on it.)

Step 2 - Tempering. (RNG)

If you got a good item with the right stats, you need luck to get the right tempering stats on your item.
And the worst part here: If you fail (due to the limitation of 6 try’s) you can salvage the item and need to start all over again. (When tempering items with GA’s, this problem is even worse.)
So this takes you back to step no. 1.

But let’s say you get the right stats from tempering…
Then, you can go to the next step

Step 3 - Enchanting. (RNG)

Here you have unlimited try’s but the stat pool of many items is still too big.
Yes, you can always try to reroll but the more times you reroll, the more gold and angelbreath (rare material, mostly available from helltides) you waste.

So, if you’re out of gold/angelbreath - you need to go back to farm whispers/helltides.
But let’s say you are lucky (again) and get to the next step…

Step 4 - Masterworking (RNG)

Here you need to run pits for masterworking materials.
Every 4th upgrade, you get a RANDOM 25% bonus.
To get the most out of it, you need to hit certain stats.
If you dont hit the certain stats, you need to reset it all with a big amount of gold. (5 million gold for 1 reset… now think about that in most cases you need to reset it multiple times to hit the right stat.)

So if you’re out of gold (again, like in step no. 4) and/or out of pit materials, you need to go back to whispers/pits.
If you’re lucky and hit the right stats with masterworking:
…Congratulations! You just finished your first item!

…Now, go do the same for all other items!

Blizzard, seriously: I really love Diablo 4 and play since release (beta).
Best season (or more like “best update”) so far.

I invested more than 2.000 hours total in this game but those RNG systems are waaaaaay too much. (It’s even worse since the release of season 4, because tempering/masterworking got added to the RNG collection.)
Im currently at Pit Tier 119 and would love to go higher but I can’t cause of the amount of RNG.

It’s very time consuming and frustrating, at all.
Don’t get me wrong: the itemization is way better now but this is a major problem.
Im not saying take RNG completely out of the game… but PLEASE reduce this high amount of RNG!

We want the time we invest in playing & farming to be wortwhile, not wasted!
Most times I just log in → play like 4 hours → make no progress cause of too much RNG and bad luck → log out → …and “wasted” my time.

This high amount of RNG needs to go! :no_entry_sign:

There needs to be some sort of weighted variance, for higher tier content to give, I don’t know…ACTUAL GOOD ITEMS. Uniques at higher drop rates, and ubers as well. You can still have white items dropping…why??? I’ve gotten things from a Tyrael’s Armor, to triple GA uniques, but 99% of the items I find are so worthless end game, I was legit annoyed at the Tree of Whispers message, since I knew it would all be just more junk to sell.

yea it‘s quite exhausting atm…

Don’t have to RNG all the way all the time

The problem is there aren’t “rare drops” that aren’t Uniques or GA-Legos, or any kind of gear in general, that’s more likely being the problem

Yes, there’s RNG, but it’s all “within” the ordinary set of things, all the RNG that happens all the time is within a certain type of a box

We need rare types of drops (or more specifically rare types of mobs that have a chance to drop a rare type of drop)

Blizzard loves their gambling simulator

None of this would be an issue if the drop rate for items with 2 -3 GAs was actually good. If you were getting new items frequently it wouldn’t matter if you bricked a few. It would fix everything. They wouldn’t even need to change tempering. Just up the GA drop rates by a substantial amount.

Tempering is the real piece of **** here. Bricked so many great items.

tempering is indeed the worst…

Not to mention every encounter is a random affix, suffix, monster, number of monsters, etc, etc, PIT levels have random modifiers, weapon swings are random damage based on upper and lower range, buffing the already most powerful class even more (pretty random), the number of mats you get from each mob, the amount of damage you take (some packs can blow me up in one hit. Go back and they’re easy peasy).

Add random modifiers to everything and go!

I heard Blizz is going to make a soulslike game. Someone needs to make a Diablo mod for Dark Souls, where when they approach the mobs the floor is covered in spam. There’s no skill, just waiting for the right flight spam to be able to approach the enemies.

there us rng which is a core part of any arpg but this i just too many layers that gets most the customer base upset.

The RNG would not be bad if stats were comparably useful.

But the deep imbalance in stat and skill builds makes it impossible.

i hope affixes and aspects on gear be put into meaningful grouping.
when a gear drop is generated by the system, it will first RNG which group to apply, then follow by RNG the affixes and relevant aspects, lastly RNG the value.

I would say there is not enough. It is an action rpg and it should be complex.

RNG is ok by itself. However, when its been blocked by high requirements that’s when it gets boring and worthless. 5M Gold cost for masterworking reset gotta go! 5 Chances of tempering with no option to keep the stat that you already have. Give me a break, I’ll probably quit after upgrading my gear with 4* which is taking too long due to Gold costs. I don’t plan to get the expansion, game is designed in a way to be a total waste of time!

Raking in those dollars! How long till we get “Mystery Chests”?!? Or did I just give them ideas? I keep talking about predatory business practices, like the gaming industry isn’t already full of them. I’m looking @ you too, Path of Exile…

agree, the worse part. I think if the pit can drop an item can make the tempering attempt +1 will make the game much more fun and smooth, even just make it is fine to make the drop rate be very low, like 1% or 2% for 100 pit.

Now the pit is so boring that just farming the materials for masterwork, the gaining of the pit are just so boring.

tbh +1 would be still too low.
there is no reason to brick good items, it’s not fun.

and to everyone who thinks that items with GA’s should drop more often: nah, thats not the solution in my opinion.
I still want to get excited when dropping 2-3 GA’s on an item.
but this excitement should not vanish into thin air after dealing with all those RNG steps to try to upgrade my item.
just my 2 cents.

edit: but I get the idea.
it’s just not my (personal) type of solution for this problem.

1- Yes. There is too much RNG.

2- Some of the RNG fatigue could be mitigated if they got rid of (or vastly evened out) the “weighted” chances.

Affixes like skill boosts are obviously MUCH rarer than other affixes, and Tempering has also been pretty much proven, through testing, to have weighted chances… with the more sought after tempers having a lower chance.

It’s one thing to deal with a ton of RNG when it’s actually RANDOM (with somewhat equal chances), it’s another thing entierly to deal with tons of RNG that is intentionally skewed against the stats you want.

Tho I dont think it should be complex but an arpg without RNG is just D3. I know theres a playerbase for that but Id rather have a “my first arpg” then what some people one the fourms want with instant gratification, safety nets and handholding.

The current systems are better then 5/5 on drop. It will only stay that way if RNG is still a part of it with the simplification of loot.

I can’t even get exited to log in anymore. Didn’t even play at all this weekend because of tempering. Every single one of my friends have quit playing already because of it too. I was really hoping this would be the season that hooked me, but yet again something stupid kills the whole thing. So disappointed.
