Thank you so much for this.
A long time coming. So glad they finally saw the light. Such a simple thing, yet still so big. Love it.
Agree its a good change - a shame people had to fight tooth-and-nail to get there though.
All well that ends well
Please enlighten me, what is the use case for wasd movement? Do you still use 1/2/3/4 as skill keys?
No, honestly I never did. WASD for movement, space for dodge, everything offense related is going to be bound on mouse extra buttons.
So use case is that now I can move freely in any direction and also attack in 360 independent on where I am moving. Additional I can stop and resume movement instantly so I can react better to unexpected projectiles/aoe without need to stop attacking.
Also way less mouse movement across the screen, just from target to target which are generally clustered together. Instead of Target → Movement (generally kitting so other side of screen → Target
Ever since playing games that offered this control scheme it felt always super stupid to go back to point to move.
I’ll give it a shot for sure. I don’t imagine i’ll use it in the end but it’s nice to have the option.
only good thing in season 3… but still thanks.
Honestly, ARPGs are the only PC games I see that still use the archaic point and click system. Im surprised WASD even has to be expained to people in a PC forum. Its only been the standard in most games for the past 20 years.
Day one I remapped all my keys to accommodate not having WASD.
I have adapted for so long and found suitable substitutions that now that WASD will be an option, I wonder if I will embrace it or stick to the adaptations I have become so familiar with.
Either way, glad they are finally giving the choice!
Okay, just bear with me here. So that means the mouse has at least 6 buttons for this layout to work?
When you say 360 attack in independent, does the character actually turn around to attack behind or does the attack just happen? i.e. do you still lose the time to change direction (even if input is faster) or is everything just faster and you’re actually shaving off the time it takes to attack. Thanks in advance bearing with me.
If it’s limited to eight directions I think these people like it just because it makes some things easier for them artificially - characters attacking while moving backwards, casting in a direction you aren’t looking, etc. We’ll see how ridiculous it is.
D4 is saved! The community rejoices. Can’t wait to start buying all sorts of skins form the ingame shop!!
You need two side buttons, that gives you 4 abilities (buttons + shift combo), other two are LBM / RMB giving you 6, even super cheap mouse is sufficient. I play D IV on Basilisk 3 so (I also have Naga but I really prefer basilisk)… turn animation is pretty much instant, same as when you click. Realistically everything is considerably faster.
Consider following common situation, you kite, that means:
Move mouse to target, use skill
Move mouse to pretty much opposite side of the screen (you are kitting, character is always between target and point you want to go) and click to go
Move mouse back to target, use skill
Repeat…
If there is sudden AoE you have to avoid then you have to break that back and forth across the screen cycle and react, you are 100% losing tons of time.
With WASD?
Keep mouse on the target, hold directional key in opposite direction of target.
If there is AoE/something to avoid just tap different direction to avoid, your mouse is still on target. You are saving way more time, your awarness of what’s going on is better (you don’t ever have to recheck for cursor position, etc)
Perfect explanation, thank you for helping me understand. Now to find a new mouse…
