I’ve seen a few threads about having this introduced now, and I guess, what I’m wondering is? What are your thoughts on this?
Personally, I don’t want the WASD for my playstyle in Diablo.
A huge part of the playstyle that keeps me in Diablo is the old school click to move style, and it’s difficult to find in games anymore.
That said, I am not opposed to have that put into the options as, perhaps, as toggle method for those that would prefer that movement style.
SO, let’s discuss how we all feel about that here, maybe?
PS: Let’s do so thoughtfully and respectfully without the rage, hate, slamming people, please.

I think there’s no reason to not include it. Many people would enjoy it.
If you prefer click-to-move, you can continue using click-to-move.

I totally agree. As long as I can keep the option to do the click2move, then I don’t see why it shouldn’t be an option for people, especially with most games using the WASD.
That said though, I probably would try WASD out of sheer curiosity on how that would integrate into Diablo

the bigger question since i havent turned on a console in ages is how the heck does movement in D4 work on consoles?

If it’s anything like D3 on my PS4 back in The Day, it was just joystick movement in place of mouse clicks, which I could not.
I went back to PC almost immediately, LOL. Although that may have changed with this one, so maybe someone will chime on that.
I strongly believe we deserve WASD movement for D4. I’ve played thousands of hours in D2 using click to move, but for years now have preferred WASD in isometric games. I’ve played quite a few even just on Steam and it’s amazing. Click to move is completely valid, yet repetitive clicking in ARPGs causes me some pain, any other game it’s zero issue. Plus I do just personally feel WASD is more intuitive for movement. Plus Diablo Immortal has WASD, it makes no sense to not include it in D4. It’s literally an accessibility option. Games only benefit from more options in the settings menu. It’d be just that too, an option. Classic click to move would still be the default control scheme. It’s a win win.

I wouldn’t use it, but options are never a bad thing.

I would like WASD to be available as a choice for people who might want it.

i like wasd when i got control of the camera (wow style)
with this fixed camera wasd would be weird as hell when it comes to various diagonals heh
the only diagonal you could do smoothly is 45 degrees. 0-45-90-135-180 is all you can do with wasd and a fixed camera.
side-strafe buttons could alleviate that but then youre at 6 buttons just for movement. weird.

Terrible, really really terrible
Keybinds don’t work but that isn’t even the issue, they didn’t give us a cursor but instead there’s a lock/unlock target mechanic lol

It feels super awkward to me in a fixed camera isometric game.
But if people want it, it doesn’t hurt tonhave it I suppose.

I imagine that WASD would be superior.
For me personally, one of my favorite things about ARPGs that is I can play them 95% with one hand and be fully effective. Its just a nice relaxed game style.
Selfishly, I worry that since using WASD would probably give you better control during hectic combat; it may feel mandatory even if optional and I’d lose my relax mode gameplay.

What you gain in movement you lose in reaction time
It’s WASD but then also 1234, in other words you have to move your hand upward to cast a spell
To be frank if they really cared and included the right sticker on the controller to behave like a mouse with some practice that might be the most effective way to play without enduring much pain due to hand position
BUT, they didn’t, so…
I also tried DI last night to check out on the controllers, same problem, can’t use cursor until menu is open up (for whatever the reason), they also have terrible bindings in L/R/1/2 and don’t let us use the “normal” buttons in ABXY (or X, ^, o, square if have a Sony one)
It’s really just bad, don’t think would take that much of development time to make it work but oh well, can understand people not caring about the Controller bindings efficiency much at this point tbh
All my skills and potion and dodge are bound to my mouse. That’s why I say I play with 1 hand perfectly fine.
well, you might have voice control for what I care

I was just pointing things out from a “normal” (mortal) position
If it’s in the game you don’t have to use it. Does your brain not comprehend that?
it should be an option it’s 2023 not 1999.
Shrug Using a mouse with a 12 button thumb keypad on the side is pretty common in 2023
how do you deal with various diagonal angles with wasd and fixed camera?
you just deal with 45 degrees ? or you wiggle in some zig zag ?
i dont have anything against having the option but i fail to see any benefits heh
I have yet to see a compelling reason to not include it.
If controllers are allowed – I’m not understanding why we wouldn’t allow it.
Seems like a no brainer to just implement it. I’d consider this an L if they decide not to.
Being able to move in one direction while shooting in the opposite direction is a pretty significant benefit. Controlling movement and aim independently of one another instead of having them on the same input is a benefit.
