Let me say that i am a huge D2 fan and absolutely loved the D4 beta’s. I must say that click to move only is a huge disappointment. I hope WASD option is added as well.
This adds depth to movement and positioning, as well as a feeling of immersion. Click only movement makes me feel like im playing a browser game. Please please please don’t clip our wings.
Keep up the great work! This game is already a win in my book.
I can see giving people the option of choosing their control scheme being a thing. Select as you enter the game so people aren’t forced into a specific mode and choose when the enter into the game with their character or on the character select screen then have the ability to swap either a button keybind or in the game menu.
For example:
Traditional = Classic Diablo experience
Modern = WASD movement
Restricting to one or the other would be stupid but giving people the option to play the style they want would benefit people overall. I can see WASD being added but not replacing the traditional experience.
How is the addition of WASD going to harm you? For an overwhelming majority of people it’s the preferred movement style. It being a “want” or “need” doesn’t matter, people advocating for this to implemented has no effect on your gameplay, now sit down, click monkey.
In the end it will be up to Blizzard on whether WASD movement gets added. It won’t be added for launch though. There have been reasons on why it should be added and reasons why it shouldn’t be added. Here is hoping Blizzard isn’t lazy if they do add it.
WASD is the control sheme with the most advantages. Moving while shooting/attacking in different directions to name the strongest.
M+KB and Controller cant achieve that level of Freedom. You can tweak it ofcourse but not to that degree. And the casual player doesnt tweak much.
That is why they struggling to implement it.
personally i have nothing against the implementation, but i at least acknowledge the concerns people have, and im hoping blizzards will find a fair compromise. Maybe WASD with slight restrictions.
One thing I presented is allow WASD for PvE but disable it for PvP. I could be wrong but it seems most people who want this are PvE oriented individuals and don’t care for PvP.
There could also be a mild movement speed penalty for those that use WASD if it is indeed true that kiting is a big enough deal.
Either way it would be a nice accessibility feature but not the end of the world if it isn’t added. I will enjoy the game regardless but want to see more people being able to enjoy the game as well.
I personally have no intention of doing PvP. I want wasd purely to take some pressure off my right arm which is more prone to issues, especially with increased mouse use like with click to move.
However, I’m not sure I buy into the argument that it is so much better. There are other wasd based games that are cross platform and controllers seem to compete just fine. There is also mixed opinion on it, a lot of console users believe that controllers are superior. It all seems very subjective and opinion based. I’d need to see hard data on it.
If they added WASD, they would need to balance the content accordingly which would make far more difficult for those that prefer the click option for Diablo. There is no need for this, whatsoever it will only create other issues.
well you can already take m+kb against controller. M+KB has the superior targetting. While Controller has the smoother Movement, but worse targetting. You dont need hard statistics too see that.
OFcourse there are games that play much better with controller, but we talking about d4. You cant compare it to Witcher3 for example.
That’s interesting and all, but people were concerned by performance and whether there were distinct advantages. If this were an FPS, I would say yes, because we have hard data on that, it has been proven.
I am unsure whether wasd would distinctly hold an advantage over controller in this case, in terms of overall performance, like clear times. There are plenty of examples of cross platform games where people compete equally, controller isn’t inherently weaker.
TTK (Time to Kill) will always be better with wasd then with a controller in a game like d4
Assuming you are kiting difficult enemies. Stuff where you cant afford to stand still for long. To dmg them controller players would always have to stop and turn to shoot them. While Wasd players can just turn their focus towards them and attack them, while still moving in the opposite direction. They dont need to Stop at all.
At least with skills that can be fired on the move
Controller has no strafe function in d4, so a turn is always neccesary.
Isn’t WASD on a keyboard ? I assume you mean M+KB meaning clicking mouse button to move specifically. They should give atleast and option for people who want to use WASD for movement.
I remember trying to play Dark Souls 2 on Keyboard and Mouse and that used WASD movement and I will say it was horrendous for movement. A Controller for Dark Souls 2 was 1000% better gameplay wise. But ultimately it all comes down to the game and control schemes should be an option.
All games are different, even in the same genre. I don’t for a minute feel like I need WASD in D3. It’s not a game based on dodging attacks, it’s a game about sidestepping ground effects. It is made that way because it was designed for click to move. Whereas some of the bosses in D4 feel like you’re playing a bullet hell shooter.
Them fightin’ words right there partner! Holster your weapons~
Good on you for speaking out on behalf of a loud minority whiners.
It doesn’t change the fact that WASD isn’t “needed” & “want’s” are not “needs”.
What is the difference between monkeys clicking a mouse and monkeys mashing buttons with their thumbs??
