Just throwing in my support for this.
Controller works okay, but I’ll only be buying the game if it gets WASD support. It worked perfectly in Diablo Immortal and the other ARPGs that have it as an option. I see no good reason why it can’t be in D4. Clearly quite a few of us would like it.

Drives me insane that it is not possible.

No matter which wannabe purist idea it was…its 2023, implement WASD asap!

That’s what keybinds are for. I would never use wasd but I also have no issue with it being added
You can bind a “Move Key” to like “W”, its pretty much what you are asking for and fits much better than true WASD in an ARPG. Then bind your LMB to “Interact” and your autoattack to “RMB” and its fine.
Nope, not what’s being asked for at all. I want to be able to move with my thumb joystick on razor tartarus. WASD is just so we can bind up down left and right. Not follow the cursor. That still leaves extra steps if you need to shoot, turn, run, turn back, shoot, turn, etc. WASD is vastly superior. Especially combined with mouse wheel force move.

You’re beyond clueless if you think this, you have to be a troll, D:I is essentially the only ARPG With WASD support, it’s a straight up mobile game port and shouldn’t even be recognized in the ARPG community
How is it an ARPG industry standard when PoE, entire diablo franchise (ignoring the mobile game), Last Epoch, Grim dawn (any ARPG worth mentioning) don’t support it ? To turn around and call some thing an “industry standard” when a mobile game port tries to do makes you look incredibly foolish
But you raise a good point D:I mobile game port with WASD is a great highlight of just how terrible WASD movement is, the game play and combat is atrocious in that game because that’s the sacrifices you have to make to game play in order to make WASD viable. Which is why no “GOOD” ARPG have ever gone near it.
Diablo 4 devs, do not waste development time on this nonsensical notion, thank you.
want to bump this topic up, and add another comment. Started up a new character in Lost Ark in the month before D4 release. Forgot how well made this game was. A shame it lost popularity due to pay to win, and other typical problems that plague Korean games. But Lost Ark is a pure action RPG with mouse click movement as well.
Lost Ark does have a basic attack, that is on right click. Left click is just move, and interact… NOT attack. Lost Ark controls work much better than D4.
Just hope dev’s play a little of Lost Ark and see how it’s controls work. And take some notes. Because Lost Ark was/is extremely popular, uses 8 spells, and 8 combat consumables (includes heal pots). all while having MUCH more difficult mechanics you need maneuver around.
I mean, why would blizzard let their goofy mobile game have better controls than D4. … ?

As a person with “trigger finger” in my right index finger, the addition of WASD movement would be a god send! I know this would be a departure (I’ve played DI-DIII), but my old man hands feel it after playing for a couple hours (cortisone injections here I come).

The game is not friendly to people with disability without WASD move support. People can sue Blizzard for discrimination against disabled or aged users.

It just come down to everyone should be able to play the game in a way that is comfortable and they enjoy. Some people like the old click to move, some people like controller play, and some people like WASD as movement.

I agree. I 100% prefer wasd movement, especially in this type of game. it makes it so much easier for me to make minor movement changes during battles that I can’t do with mouse clicking. I also don’t like to use controllers, so I’m really hoping that wasd movement option comes soon after launch

They already implemented an auto-target system for controllers. It hasn’t hard to be. Really why they don’t do it I just can’t get it
only 49 likes since March 21st for “WASD 100%”.
I guess if you counted the forum users who didn’t like, that would make “WASD -3000%” or something…
More options is always a good thing.
Problems should always be solved with more freedoms than with less.

Uh huh…
It’s not like WASD is literally breaking the E-sports scene in Tekken and Street Fighter and that has trickled down and affected the online scene for a year or so since it first arrived.
WASD is unnatural movement response and recovery, if you balance all forms of freedom, you are left with a mess.

This is absolutely true. I understand the arguments that people don’t want the meta to shift to WASD because it has advantages. But that ship has sailed. Controllers are already part of the game and do exactly what WASD does. So if controllers are to stay in the game, which they are, then the correct decision for a well-designed game is to implement WASD. This way, both main input systems, keyboard/mouse and gamepad will be on a more level playing field.

Oh do you…
OH REALLY
Does it have Frodo and Gandalf the White on it? Is every good character or arguement going to sail away to force the way for WASD?
You have no respect for gaming, NONE.
