Please, this needs to be implemented ASAP. The quality of life difference between controller and M+K is unbelievable in terms of actual /gameplay/. The fact that it can be incredibly difficult to navigate 1-hit mechanics because your screen is stacked with mobs and you can’t move due to their hitboxes covering everything is the most frustrating artificial difficulty here, even worse than flat RNG encounters.

I don’t understand why players still haven’t gotten their desired WASD controls. Blizzard proudly announced that Diablo 4 should be accessible. And that also includes alternative controls.

I’m just kidding. I’ve been saying this from the beta: There’s no good reason to not have WASD. If they haven’t been able to get it to work yet (for whatever reason, I’m a dev, I get it, sometimes things just don’t cooperate like they should), that explains why we don’t have it YET. But to never have it? Zero reason as to why.
Just bind force move to W key and you will be golden
There nothing golden about it force move did not feel great on melee character at all
Range character maybe but controller on melee character are just way better
WASD + Mouse aiming on range character it offer even more precise control that Force move doesn’t grant the same option.
I did play diablo immortal and wasd is amazing compare to clunky force move
The problem isn’t force move, the problem is control. The auto pathing on the click to move compared to the control joystick or WASD give is massive. I can’t count the number of time I only needed to step down 2 inches to avoid a mechanic and when I click it my guy runs in a circle to get there and blows up in a ground effect.
Controller isn’t a suitable replacement either since you lose the ability to place abilities where you want them quickly. Ie. Bone Prison, corpse tendril when there’s a stack of mobs.

You all bring up some fantastic points and ideas here. I think the force move bind is a fine-enough band-aid but not healthy for long-term. It’s also ridiculous that Immortal has it but D4 doesn’t. If they can program controller movement, then WASD movement isn’t farfetched at all.
Fully agree. This would greatly enhance my diablo experience with a twin stick shooter feel (like hell divers). Granted I use wasd so that’s a misnomer in this case.
They could do it in 30 min or less. Add input controls and write a small locomotion script.

It can be achieved (albeit not perfectly) with just AutoHotKey – some guy did it during D4 beta, and I wrote a script which I tested in offline mode in Last Epoch.
If they allowed more seamless switching between M+K and Controller inputs it could be done that way too.

That I 100% agree with, but I also can’t hit the broad side of a barn with my controller.
You can also do it without AHK (which might just get you banned), I did it by using a razer tartarus and just binding the “WASD” on that (not called wasd, but essentially the same) to emulate joystick movement
Actual wasd would be real nice though, the workarounds are either bannable or not really effective due to the delayed switching between KB&M / controller
Now that this is brought up again, I will say I was spamming a question about implementing WASD movement in chat during the campfire side interview. Even though I wouldn’t use it, I still cannot find a good reason not to have it. Instead some dude named NecroLux (or whatever the crap his name was) asked some silly question about walls or something. I really wish they would have picked mine and we would have gotten more info from them on this front. I’ve seen only a couple people respond negatively to this topic, but it looks like the majority of people agree that WASD movement should be in the game.
