Waller interactions are a real issue

Of all monster affixes, Waller is the worst and it’;s not due to difficulty it’s due to spell interaction and bugs…

I generally play the 2 caster classes, and waller provides a huge issue for both of them. Last season I played Minions (Necro) and Ball Lightning (Sorc)…

Waller provides issues because

  1. Minions wont attack walls. They just, stand still when there is a waller on the screen, they don’t move around it, they don’t hit it, they just do nothing.

  2. Spells disappear when interacting with a wall. Ball lightning just goes away as soon as a wall touches it. So does Chain Lightning… Enemies on the other side of a wall but clearly in AoE effects (Curse, Corpse Explosion as examples) take no damage…

Not to mention the bugs. Wallers in confined spaces break the game entirely. It’s not rare to get a mob in a wall spamming abilities, but it’s inside a wall, so it takes no damage. Doesn’t move, just stands there spamming abilities and there is nothing you can do about it until the wall disappears.

Waller affix needs a lot of work. It has so many issues and, whether they’re intended or not, they’re not fun. It’s the only affix in the game that is unfun to play against.

These wall problems seemed to get a lot worse after the so-called bug fix in 1.4.1:

  • Fixed an issue where walls spawned by Elites with the Waller Affix could be destroyed by other monsters coming into contact with them. Hell’s Legions care little when it comes to morality, but they do not mess around with keeping Walls up to code.

Rogue also had similar problems firing at monsters when the wall is up last season. And in some cases the wall would generate in pit passageways that were so narrow that you couldn’t maneuver anywhere. And I think before 1.4.1, unstoppable allowed the player to walk through the wall, but not after.

Minions just standing still because of a wall seems like a bug, but it seems fine to have the walls be indestructible and therefore not be attacked by minions. Having spells die when they hit wall would make sense for anything that normally dies when it hits a wall, but also seems like a bug with regard to spells that normally avoid walls.

So, these all seem like bugs that should be fixed, but overall I really like how Waller breaks up the gameplay and forces you to think a little differently about how to fight the mob. Then again, I also like the snake sniper traps that stun you, the spider ground effect that slows you, and having mobs with mana drain or vampiric on them. Give us more problems for our builds to solve!

We need our potion of krulaid back from d3

Thing is, the wall isn’t indestructible. There is a section of wall that can be killed, even if minions are standing right next to it they will not hit that wall, ever.
