VoH open beta weekend?

There was an open beta weekend several months in advance of the base game. Are we going to get one for VoH too?

Brent said there will be no betas, PTR’s, early access, etc. Everything will start on Oct 8th, for everyone.

1 step forward, 2 steps back.

Eh, it’s normal for a live service game depending on how it works. With an expansion and seasons lining up it makes sense for D4. Now that being said I hope you didn’t pre-order. Wait for others to test it out for you when it launches, find all the bugs, come back in S7 after a sale, or even longer, and then you can enjoy yourself.

Gamescon today 11AM PT . So surely we will see something today. Today is the day weather or not I will pre order or wait for it to go on sale.

Can you expand on that? Why would no beta be two step back. At this stage we have no info to base any decisions on good or bad.

No beta = no testing = game goes live in a bugged state.

You may be right but it’s also making a lot of assumptions on information we do not have.

Exactly, if they give an open beta, it won’t be an assumption anymore. People will just straight up see that it’s underdeveloped as was the base game. And then who will pre-order?

Judging by the amount of wings and cat mounts I see in game I don’t think they have to worry about preorders.

Expansions never sell as many as the base game, when the expansion launches, throughout the history of video gaming. I’d also say it’s better if people don’t pre-order, as that’s never a good thing for any consumer. I am curious to see how much money they’ve made from pre-orders though. Lot of people running around with the tiger mount and wings, just saying.

WotLK sold more than vanilla WoW.

True, but indeed not everyone is with wings and a cat. For sure, they didn’t sell as many expansions as the base game.

You’re not wrong, by the time WotlK came out though 11+ million copies had already sold from WoW. It is true though at launch WoW only had roughly 740k copies sold from preorders and launch day sales. Where as Wotlk had roughly 2.8m, so going from launch day to launch day, Wotlk sold more at the time of launch, but definitely not in the long run.

2.8m versus the 11m copies of WoW at the time of launch is rather low in comparison.

I was at blizzcom when they made the announcement for that. The opening cinematic is still one of the best cinematics I’ve ever seen.

It’s a bit hard to keep track because Blizzard keeps on rolling expansions into the base game.

But you’re right. VoH probably won’t outsell base D4 on release just because of how troubled the launch was. Casual gamers probably don’t even know about any of the improvements to gameplay that came after release.

Figure worse case scenario the game flops, doesn’t have a 2nd or even 3rd expansion and I’m out 70 bucks. Best case scenario it pulls a D3, and becomes very popular after several years. Too soon to tell, all I know is I won’t be pre-ordering but I will more than likely buy the expansion at some point in time.

When that point in time comes will be based on what I see at launch, and the discount of the sale come December or later.

I kinda like this but also at the same time, this dev team kinda needs a PTR so we’ll see lol

Completely agree. Having a non-disclosed beta would’ve done wonders for the expansion in my opinion. Now I wouldn’t expect it to be flawless on launch, no game ever is, but I’d be more hopeful they would find some of the bigger bugs present.

I’m concerned about the launch, but at the same time I won’t be playing it, so I’ll just be keeping an eye on the forums and YouTube videos.

I bought it. Sometimes I equip the wings and sometimes I don’t. As for the mounts when I get around to changing them. I always have the cat pet though, even though he still can’t keep up with the looting lol.
