Veteran D2R/PoE player here, I agree seasons in D4 make no sense

The entire point of a new season is to reset economy, give everyone a fair shot to level up in the new ladder/season.

Why do seasons not make sense in D4 IN ITS CURRENT STATE?

No economy- This is the entire reason A LOT players come back to long time aRPG’s when a ladder or season reset happens. It gives you the ability to farm when common items are worth more, and gives players ability to gain more wealth in order to min-max their characters.

If you took a game like D2R/PoE and just had a season/ladder reset without economy I guarantee you most players would not return.

Unless blizzard decides to have a a trading/ssf/hardcore version of seasons I dont see the point of seasons in D4. I know there are some players who just like to race to 100 and try to be on a leader board, but that is a very small % of the player base.

Yes I KNOW that people can continue to player their characters in standard, and honestly I think MOST casual players will continue to do that.

But without economy, the allure of season/ladder resets don’t really make much sense IMO.

What are your thoughts?

Personally the primary reason I play seasons is because my progression stalls out. I’m not a trader in games where trade is an option.

I reach a point where my character power is no longer growing in a meaningful way and I stop having fun.

New seasonal content and a meta shake up is exactly what I need to start over.

The only requirement I have is that my next character isn’t as tedious to level, and the xp boosts that will be offered in the season pass should help with that.

I don’t think an economy has anything to do with seasons. It allows for a fresh start for old and new players starting on a level playing field and to experience whatever mechanics the season has to offer.

For sure, I hope they add enough content for it to be worth it to you!

Myself and a lot of others really need that economy, without it I just cant find myself doing seasons.

Because you’re thinking like a gamer and not the Activision/Blizzard marketing department.

D3 seasons was a beta test to D4 money machine.

I agree it doesnt have anything to do with it in D4, but D2 and PoE its basically the main reason people come back. Hopefully they add content like PoE, but…well I dont have high hopes :frowning:

Yup. Blizzard just wants seasons so they can monetize battlepass and the cosmetic shop every 3 months. It has nothing to do with improving the quality of the game. They are just gas lighting their player base into thinking they want it and unfortunately, some people buy into it.

For me, it’s all about money and to make the game look “alive”.

I mean… you could just reroll the same class again with a new content drop, nothing is stopping you from that. You can even delete your old character first if you want it to feel official. Or maybe play hardcore? You don’t need a “season” to experience new content. Plenty of games don’t. Look at Warframe for example. It’s doing great.

Unfortunately I think this may be correct, but it will really implode on them if that is really the main thing. Do they care? I doubt it :frowning:

not really no.

it might for a few people in D2R because said players still left (since most are bots now due to open trade bringing jsp and rmt everywhere) : want to sell said items for FGs etc… (which is illegal but hey , no ban so…they continue)

Actually i and many i know argue that open trading kinda ruined seasons and hardcore mode since wealth could transfer from one season to another and any rando can get fully geared in hardcore for a few cents or fgs without risking anything…i wouldn’t call them players but it happens a LOT sadly.

but as for the rest of player of D2R or EVERY player of D3 (since there is no trade) : they do it for one reason only : the pure reset itself along with friends and new content.

seasons did exist in D3 and people enjoyed that quiet a lot.

also it’s false to say there is no economy in D4 : gold and rares are tradeable, it’s just that you have to farm your legendary / unique as the devs said : some item should only be earnable through actually playing.
it’s not that there is no economy it’s simply that legendary / unique have to be earned (oh the horror ! farming in a farming game)
and also : rares are most of the time BIS.

Well, I do seasons to play another class/build from scratch and enjoy the new content/mechanics with it.

I’ve always mostly played SSF (exceptions for friends) even with trading available in other games.

Don’t get me wrong, I love trading in games, but I find very clunky in current ARPGs with no well done in-game “auction board” (not auction house). I mean, how hard is it to have an official in-game system where we can browse and filter for what we need and just see who sells it to contact him/her with a button.

Basically, PoE system, but in-game.

Someone let Blizzard gaslight them…

There is no economy in D4 to say there is makes no sense.
That is like saying there is a community in D4, there isnt.

No way to truly trade/communicate. No official trading site, no global chat in game.
Its not built at all.

No seasons in D3 always had the purpose of shaking up the meta in addition to requiring a reroll.

Can you imagine the absolute whine fest that would come over this board if they completely nerfed TB or WW and made Rapid Fire the best build? The amount of crying that their character was “bricked” would be absurd. It’s good they are doing it in the seasonal realm first, the people crying about seasons wouldn’t be happy with or without seasons they would whine either way.

I’m looking forward to a meta shift, new items, maybe a new pinnacle or two and making a new character / build for S1. Seasons are what make ARPGs tick and it’s regardless of the “economy” at this point.

Hopefully they add enough to make it worth it for you!

there is : in forums and discord etc…
and in trade chat.

though, i agree it is a rather private / quiet one , and that a built-in auction house or trade house to trade gold / rares items (or other currently tradeable items) would be a good thing as it would make players less inclined to go to third party or even shady forums.

I quite enjoyed D3 S28 actually.

  • Plvl took 30min-1hr
  • Min/Maxing gear in Rifts/GR Rifts took 5 min or less
  • Character had a progression of melting faces.
  • Rinse repeat till you’re satisfied.

People over complicate this formula but it really is what ARPG is lol.

Come on man… :frowning: lol there are D2 LOD CLASSIC mods with better ways to trade lol.

It’s a cashgrab. That’s the reason seasons are rolling out so soon.
The game is barebones in regard to itemization, so expect Bliz to leverage that with season gear drops to get people to pony up for BattlePass purchases.
