One out of 1000 issues with this game is combat, particularly the pace. Combat in this game is so slow and unsatisfying. Skills are boring with very little weight behind them other than pulverize. When you fight enemies it feels like a boxing match, slowly jabbing your way to victory whereas it should be like MMA or jousting, more fast paced and to the point.
Why did the design philosophy change so drastically? Core Diablo has always been about power spikes and nuking demons into orbit. Why the sudden change into a slow, methodical slug fest where only one build is viable on every class other than Druid? Or in the case of Sorc, nothing is viable.
getting 8 items with 4 useful stats as close to max as you can to match up with 200 paragon points 9 board options and what like 15 glyph options
feels very overwhelming to me, go look at the maxroll builds there are so many different builds and variations of the same build and all of them can be godly or suck depending on your gear rolls
There are only two groups of people who say combat in this game is slow.
People still leveling(typically playing a druid or barbarian)
People who don’t know they’re supposed to use vunerability, crit damage, and main stat as their primary power gains. Your 1000% damage from fire isn’t going to do squat for increasing your damage in the game.
Combat in this game is not slow at all if you build correctly.
I do not agree at all with that take on the combat. Like on my rogue(lvl 100) the combat feels incredibly fast, dashing back n forth, bursting with cooldowns, evading. And the sound effects behind it are just so meaty and satisfying. I honestly think it’s amazing.
My Druid(tiny level 35 now) plays completely different and I love it, it’s slower but has more weight behind it with the massive chunky werebear attacks.
All my personal opinion, but if I would be asked to pick the most positive thing about the game, I would defs say it is the combat.
Disagree with that. Combat only seems boring because you spending half your time at vendors, looting useless yellows, Or clicking on some useless objective.
Design philosophy went out the window when they decided to cater to the D2 fossils by copy/pasting all the class trash from D2 instead of creating something new.
D2 has no interesting skills to speak of, nothing to make you go “ooooh this is so much fun!!!”.
My sorc instantly kills packs of mobs 15 levels above me with TP Frost Nova. What game are you guys playing where fights feel slow paced? I’ve literally fought monsters 40 levels above me and a fight won’t ever last more than a dozen seconds, the only exception being Butcher since he keeps shielding himself if you try to kite him.
I feel like the combat is actually the highlight for me standing out among the low points like poor itemization, bloated affixes, lack of social features and server instability.
The combat is the reason I’m still playing. Tackling higher and higher level nightmare dungeons using my trash tier Trappid Fire build is actually extremely fun.
Core Diablo actually hasn’t always been about playing Cookie clicker but with Demons. It’s bringing me back to playing Diablo 1/Hellfire, trying to be a little careful ~ only sped up like 3x and with 5x the ground puke, but I’m enjoying it.
Path of Exile 2 will be out later this year for all of your power fantasy one shot needs!
Yep so does my sorc. Too bad the rest of the game is boring outside of shredding enemies. I’d even use a different build but because helltides and nm dungeons are the only thing to do, I figured why not use ice-shards or ice-shard blizzard. Yawn.
