Vendors need an update

Am I the only one who thinks that vendors should sell legendaries, maybe even uniques. I know they technically can sell legendary items but I’ve only seen it once, back in s3. Maybe even an option to gamble with gold.

I think vendors need an update, there is a lot of interesting things that could be done with these dudes.

I never bought one but I do recall that the vendor did sell leggos. very, very rare and possibly a bug. I can not remember if that was in the beta(s).

Season 1 my best items were from the vendors but you can’t make yellows as good as legendaries anymore so they are useless now

I just think it would be fun to visit the vendor and see a 2ga or 3ga randomly. Like a surprise dopamine hit.

They should make vendors a pet so I can salvage/sell right away.

after this season it’s going to be hard to get that rush, for me. I can not even imagine how many of the gambling currency i’ve spent on amulets/rings and I still can not get 16/16 bold chieftain and another one that I can not recall.
(not even sure if bold goes to 16, it might be 10 or something) all i know is i’m pretty much done with the season, and i do not have it unlocked. and yeah, I farm junk like a mad-man.

You are.
The game takes place outside of town.

The game takes place in the game.

Obol vendors- town
Tempering- town
Masterworking- town
Enchanting- town
Trading- town
Potion crafting- town
Imprinting- town

Seems to me like a lot happens in town and expanding on it isn’t a bad idea.

A vibrant town/city in an arpg is seldom a bad idea.

My dog is referred to as vendor in training. He gonna learn!

It’s so rare that I took a screenshot every time.
Not going to go through the mountain of pointless ss’s but iirc I think I’ve seen appx 1/2 a dozen Legendary items for sale since S0(I’d say S1 but again, mountain of useless archives I’m not searching through).

I do agree that Armor, Weapon and Jewelry Vendors have been relegated to total pointlessness.
Once upon a time they were WORTH checking.
When 925 became the new Tier - they’d be worth checking at a X level.
Now? They don’t even need to be there.
They could make the Curiosity Vendor accept items we wish to Sell and the game wouldn’t even change a hair.

  • What to do with the 3 Vendors?
Make it so that every Hour, when their stock rotates, there’s a 10% chance of EACH(individual item rolled to check via RNG) of their 4 item offerings, to be Legendary(to a maximum lotto win of 4 Leggo items for Sale).
There’s a 2% Chance for an item that rolls Legendary to be 1GA.
.1% Chance to be 2 GA
.01% Chance to be 3 GA

Just spitballing numbers(don’t go all nutty on me… adjust accordingly), but it would be cool to just LOOK at the vendors again vs ignore them absolutely like the game directs us to now.

Just as in previous iterations: They were NOT the Source for “Gear” but they could surprise you(Rares primarily).
It’d be nice to have that same feeling back and take the 2-5 seconds to quickly check all 3 and see if there’s a diamond in the rough.

Can’t/won’t hurt anything and certainly would not break the game…

Edit: tbh I miss checking Vendors. ‘Back in the day’…heh 1 year total… I’d show friends items or give them something “NICE FIND!!” - Vendor. Or link a find in chat.
The 1 hour timer makes it impossible(outside of a desperate and exceedingly dedicated individual to “Shop” vendors exclusively or a Bot designed to camp them all day every day… I just enjoyed noticing the Hour had come or rushing to one with seconds to spare to check them. Something was lost, core itemization coding, with Vendors and Loot Reborn…)

and after sitting in town all day because thats where everything happens how do you level up your character
besides levelling up the healing potions when it becomes available and trashing everything I’ve picked up at the blacksmith there is nothing in town really worth worrying about and all the fun is outside of town killing stuff

I’m not on the same page as the OP wanting vast sweeping changes.
Basically - If you recall the way it was - it was fine.
One could sometimes find a very good and rarely a BiS item from a Vendor(not talking Leggos - this was all pre S4/loot reberthed).

Evolving the merchants to current itemization leads more towards Player Dopamine(lotto rare for sure).
It makes them not so abjectly and totally insignificant as they have become.
It takes appx 30-45 seconds to check vendors every hour.
Should one very rarely offer a Legendary and should the stars align and it be a GA1/2/3 - there’s nothing wrong with that.

Currently - they should just be removed as things stand.

So it’s a keep them and maintain .x% viability for the small subset of players who would actually check them…
OR
Remove them and give the Curiosity Vendor the capacity to buy items from the Players(consolidation)

I’m not suggesting that towns should be the main focus of the game. I like them as they are. Being out and about slaying things is the most important thing and that won’t change. Just pointing out how pointless it is for vendors to stock what they do and suggesting that they could be more interesting.

Lol no. Diablo is a game where you kill monsters to get loot.
Where is the fun when you can buy everything you want at a vendor?
I agree that the actual vendors are not interesting selling crappy yellow items.
But they should never sell legendaries or unique items.
Maybe yellow items are reworked at some point in the future (runewords?) but the best items in the game have to be dropped by killing enemies.

I mostly agree. Being able to buy all your bis gear is not the suggestion. I’m talking about a 0.1% chance of them ever having a great item. As for them stocking legendary items, I don’t see the harm in 5 or 6 items that are probably trash every hour. You can fill your inventory with legendary items in 5 minutes of helltide so it’s very unlikely that vendors would break the game.

So trite…

It figures people have short-term memories re: How Vendors used to work and also overblown responses(hyperbolic statements/assumptions) thinking you want some ez road to GA3 Win-Dom.

The vendors, IF Updated to the current itemization model would not even remotely be a “viable source of much of anything”…
It would be a rare “huh cool…a usable item” if one even bothered to check their 4 items on hourly rotations.
If you think that’s broken then maybe there a break in the :brain: somewhere.

Merchants selling Legendaries, randomly and rarely, would likely be a good addition and further justify their existence.
