Using unique items feels like eating food I know I'm allergic to

Sure the food is good and sustaining, but it hurts. That’s what Uniques feel like in Diablo 4.
One of the things that the Diablo 4 developers have been saying in all their marketing material is they “want players to be able to play the way they want to play”.

Obviously you must consider balance along with that. Unique items have static modifiers. They can still roll high or low, but the modifiers can’t be changed. They also can’t be enchanted.

I’m guessing this is more for “story” or “lore” reasons than it is for balance, because the way the uniques are now, they feel absolutely awful to use. A couple of them that are “designed” for my build because they have a good aspect feel terrible to use because the 3 out of the 4 modifiers are absolutely garbage. So i’m “stuck” using a unique that helps my build in one way, but hurts it in others. The only way to avoid this is to use a legendary instead, but SOME of the aspects on unique are actually good, they just have dead-weight or counter-productive modifiers.

The enchanter should be able to change one of these modifiers, just like with Legendary items. They can still have the same default modifiers, but players should be able to change one to make the items feel less awful, since they ALWAYS seem to have 2-3 modifiers that don’t help the build at all.

That defeats the entire purpose of uniques… The only thing that makes them unique is that the affix’s are the same every time.

Just wanted to say the title is hilarious that is all. You people.

No it doesn’t, read more carefully. The modifiers themselves still static. Allowing players to enchant them like legendary items lets you change 1 of the 4 static modifiers.

So, don’t worry, if this change was ever made Uniques will still have 3 out of 4 modifiers that you hate, but at least you can change one.
