Using Midjourney for Concept Art

D4 could GREATLY improve its art style by using AI tools like Midjourney to generate initial concept art. Using Midjourney is very cheap and quick. It can inspire D4 artists to create much better art for the game WHILE also cutting costs AND increasing their productivity.

What makes you think the artists don’t actually use some generation engine already?

I don’t know what they are doing. Those AIs are relatively new. Not everybody is using them by default.

There is an art problem now? The art in this game is the only thing universally praised by both sides of the hater/lover spectrum of this game.

My goal is to give some tips which can have a HUGE impact at a low cost. Using Midjourney and ChatGPT4 can have an ENORMOUS positive impact on this game at a very low cost and with very low risk. Graphics in D4 is well done, but an AI can inspire artists efficiently and this can lead to even BETTER visuals down the road.

I need about 24369032784 thumbs down buttons for this crap.

OP has no idea what they’re talking about

Why? Maybe you are simply unable to understand me. You try to project a lot of confidence for somebody who has “a**e” in his nick.

It’s true though.

If there is one thing that all artists are currently in agreement about is definitely how great AI art is and how it definitely isn’t an Eldritch abomination of stolen art in any way.

They love it. Universally.

I don’t give a damn what artists think about Midjourney. If they can’t outperform a ROBOT, then they should change their trade. Generative AI is smarter AND more creative than 99% of people. Most artists would spend a DECADE in training to be able to rival what Midjourney can generate in SECONDS.

Don’t honestly see a problem with the art style of D4, it’s a nitty gritty very dark look.

You’re probably too young to have watched Batman: The Animated Series, which aired back in 1992 and lasted for 4 seasons. One of the biggest changes they made from traditional animation was the fact they used black paper, not white. Changed the whole art style completely. They had to get very creative with the colors they used.

D4 is doing something similar only using darker colors for their color palette. Granted the two are not the same, but they have similarities in their art choices.

I watched Batman in the 90’s as a kid. What’s your point? My point is that D4 visuals can be even BETTER if they use some AI help. Their gameplay design can also be MUCH better if they use ChatGPT4 properly.

AI is not creative at all. It just mashes already existing works together to make something.

tbf you see this in humans too.

see: superheroes, scifi, fantasy, zombies, vampires, anything you can think of.

take something old, mash it with something else, boom.

You have little idea what it means to be creative. Sir Isaac Newton famously said: “If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.”

Yes. It could be used… But. In such games, it is usually the concepts invented by man that are valued. Although in the case of the sorcerer’s armor, yes, they will need the help of AI.

The goal is not to replace concept artists with AI. The goal is to get a solid starting point for HUMAN creativity. Midjourney can draw something reasonable in SECONDS and then you can build on that.

I got it. Although the design of an oriental harlot for a sorcerer is still too much, although maybe it was a hint?

In my limited observations, most high level from Hollywood to gaming to marketing all have incorperated some version of the tool both for ideation and efficiency. Skill with the tool is somewhat correlated with original skill of the designer (or the true artist within them to konw in their mind’s eye what they already wanted to create).

Besides, as @chozen pointed out already, I don’t think anyone has a problem with the art team’s contribution. I think it’s all bugs and game play (lacking) issues at this point. and mid-journey is not going to suddenly make the game more fun.

I order to make gameplay more fun… they need ChatGPT4. Seriously. I use it a lot. It’s VERY powerful. It’s not that smart, but it has a HUGE knowledge. It’s also very articulate and rational, both are great traits of an AWESOME advisor.
