Using AI for Builds - it works, I tried Grok

Looking for a build and consulting various sites (maxroll, icy veins, etc)? Try using AI. I did and it gave a lot of helpful suggestions for a Dance of Knives build and pointers for things like managing crit hit chance etc. If you want some decent build suggestions AI is pretty good.

It can also take wrong, or old information into consideration. Especially on seasonal games id use sites that keep their informations up to date and that you trust. For me that clearly is d4 builds gg and maxroll.

just saying, AI has its uses, but its important for people to understand how it works, and that its not some magical intelligence fixing your builds :stuck_out_tongue:

Grok is the AI from one of the top D4 players of the world. No wonder it suggests great builds.

Yeah. The intern that Felon Musk pays to play on his account is pretty good.

Can’t hurt to play around with it.

Just keep expectations on the details in check.

AI can find a lot of “stuff” but it’s not always good stuff. It can be pretty hit and miss on getting things right for that reason and others… even Elon’s one

True. The emerging industry is low on maturity and high on consequences in various places.

Guide for making build guides: stack as many offensive and defensive bucket multipliers as possible to create the largest numbers possible, taking into account when a diminishing breakpoint is approached. You do this for aspects/paragon boards/tempering. For the paragon board the trick is to hit as many large multipliers as possible in a DFS style. Then consider if small alterations result in augmentation. Sometimes snapshotting and bugs matter. That’s basically it. Only takes a few hours or less once you get good at it. Now go get hired by maxroll!

in this case, grok is basically just a web crawler that gathers and compiles published builds from the internet, then rewrites them in point form natural language.

the “AI” part doesn’t work here, since no data scientist actually trained grok on diablo 4’s game mechanics.

This, but it would require players, you know, playing the game. You need to get a feel for what aspects & skills enable your build to function. Then the optimization process switching in/out items for bigger multipliers, all while hitting and maintaing caps or whatnot.

Having an AI put a build together may work but nothing can substitute for this process. It requires the human touch to iron out the kinks, so to speak. It’s not entirely bad. Just be aware that it can’t do everything for you.

Oh great!

Now we have another way to not think for ourselves.

AI won’t forcibly take over. Humanity will hand it to them.

It scrapes data from everywhere so it could
be from dated builds

Just a thought

Sure, yes.
Is what it is and my opinion is pending more data points.

Sometimes it (AI) in games tells me helpful things.

Sometimes it insists that I should do things that were relevant many patches ago.
EDIT: many times… in games, I have wasted many hours based on what AI suggested to realize it’s info was many patches old. I guess I ignore it now for gaming purposes.

Anyway, sure… it is sometimes pretty nifty keen.

Here is what i found…there are quite a few errors. Lets play a game and spot them…go!

Based on the most recent guides and updates for Diablo 4 Season 7 (as of April 13, 2025), here’s a detailed Necromancer build focused on minions that is designed to clear Pit 150, one of the highest tiers of endgame content. This build leverages the power of minions, particularly Skeletal Warriors, Skeletal Mages, and the Golem, while incorporating key skills, gear, Legendary Aspects, Paragon Boards, and gameplay strategies to maximize damage and survivability. The information is drawn from reliable sources like Maxroll.gg, Mobalytics.gg, Icy Veins, and Wowhead, which emphasize minion builds for high Pit tiers.

Necromancer Minion Build for Pit 150 (Season 7)

Build Overview

This build, often referred to as a “Shadow Summoner” or “Golem Pit Push” variant, focuses on scaling minion damage and survivability while ensuring the Necromancer can handle high-tier Pit challenges. It’s optimized for endgame content, including Pit 150, where enemies have massive health pools and deal significant damage. The build uses the Ring of Mendeln as a cornerstone Unique item and prioritizes buffs like Decrepify, Soulrift, and Golem abilities to create a tanky yet devastating minion army.

Skills

Here’s the skill allocation for a 71-point build, with additional points from Renown (12 points):

Active Skills (Points Invested):

  • Raise Skeleton (5/5): Your core summoning skill. Use Skeletal Warriors (Reapers) and Skeletal Mages (Shadow) for corpse generation and high damage output.
  • Golem (5/5): Choose Blood Golem for a strong damage buff and tanking ability. Upgrade to increase its damage and survivability.
  • Decrepify (5/5): Essential for crowd control, reducing enemy damage and increasing vulnerability, which benefits your minions.
  • Corpse Tendrils (5/5): Pulls enemies together and buffs minion damage, making it perfect for grouping targets in the Pit.
  • Bone Storm (1/5): Provides damage reduction and procs powerful Aspects like Blighted Aspect and Shielding Storm for survivability.
  • Soulrift (1/5): Your ultimate skill, offering massive damage, Essence management, and a 75% damage multiplier, crucial for Pit 150 bosses.

Passive Skills:

  • Grim Harvest (3/3): Increases Essence generation, supporting frequent minion summons.
  • Fueled by Death (3/3): Boosts movement speed and cooldown reduction after killing enemies, vital for mobility in high-tier Pits.
  • Death’s Reach (3/3): Enhances minion attack range and damage, making them more effective at clearing mobs.
  • Kalman’s Edict (1/1, Key Passive): Increases attack speed for all minions, significantly boosting their DPS.

Book of the Dead Choices

  • Skeletal Warriors: Reapers – Focus on corpse generation to fuel Corpse Tendrils and Corpse Explosion.
  • Skeletal Mages: Shadow – Provides multiplicative damage scaling based on the number of active Shadow Mages, ideal for Pit pushing.
  • Golem: Blood – Offers a damage buff while you’re healthy and taunts enemies, drawing aggro away from you and your minions.

Do not sacrifice any minions; keeping them all alive maximizes damage and survivability.

Gear and Aspects

Gear should be optimized for minion damage, cooldown reduction, and survivability. Here are the key items and Legendary Aspects:

Required Uniques:

  • Ring of Mendeln: The cornerstone of this build, massively buffs minion damage and attack speed when minions hit enemies. Must-have for Pit 150.
  • Blood Moon Breeches: Enhances minion survivability and damage, synergizing with the Ring of Mendeln.
  • Heir of Perdition (Boots): Increases movement speed and minion damage, improving positioning and clear speed.

Legendary Aspects (Codex of Power or Gear):

  • Frenzied Dead (Offhand): Boosts minion attack speed, crucial for triggering Ring of Mendeln effects.
  • Occult Dominion (Boots): Enhances Shadow damage and minion control, scaling your Skeletal Mages.
  • Blighted Aspect (Any): Procs additional damage when Bone Storm is active, synergizing with minion attacks.
  • Aspect of Hardened Bones (Pants): Increases damage reduction, making your minions and you tankier.
  • Shielding Storm (Chest): Combines with Bone Storm for additional survivability through barriers.

Tempering and Masterworking:

  • Temper offensive stats on weapons and jewelry for “Minion Damage,” “Golem Damage,” and “Damage to Cursed Enemies.”
  • Masterwork gear to prioritize Critical Strike Damage, Cooldown Reduction, and Minion Damage.

Gems:

  • Weapons: Royal Sapphire (increases Vulnerable damage if you have Lucky Hit: Chance to Apply Vulnerable).
  • Armor: Royal Ruby (increases max health for survivability).
  • Jewelry: Skull (boosts armor for you and your minions).

Paragon Boards

You’ll have up to 328 Paragon Points at max level (300 from Paragon Levels, 24 from Renown, 4 from Altars of Lilith). Focus on these boards and nodes:

  • Starting Board: Socket with Eliminator Glyph to boost damage against Elites and Bosses. Prioritize Rare nodes for Intelligence and Minion Damage.
  • Cult Leader Board: Use the Deadraiser Glyph to enhance minion survivability and damage. Take all Damage Reduction nodes for minions.
  • Wither Board: Focus on cooldown reduction and Essence management to keep Soulrift and Golem on low cooldowns.
  • Rotting Fumes Board: Boosts poison and shadow damage, synergizing with Skeletal Mages.

Rotate boards to fit the optimal path, ensuring Legendary nodes and Glyph sockets are unlocked. At Paragon 200, focus on minor tweaks and additional small nodes for optimization.

Glyphs

  • Eliminator: Increases damage against Elites and Bosses, critical for Pit 150.
  • Deadraiser: Enhances minion survivability and damage.
  • Territorial: Boosts damage against close targets, useful for mob clearing.
  • Control: Improves crowd control effectiveness, synergizing with Decrepify and Corpse Tendrils.

Glyphs upgrade at levels 15 (radius 3 to 4) and 46 (radius 4 to 5). Progress through The Pit to rank them up.

Gameplay Loop (Pit 150)

  1. Pre-Fight Prep: Ensure all minions (Skeletal Warriors, Mages, and Golem) are summoned. Use Raise Skeleton and Golem to buff and heal minions.
  2. Engagement: Cast Decrepify to slow and weaken enemies, making them vulnerable. Follow with Corpse Tendrils to group enemies and buff minion damage.
  3. Damage Phase: Use Soulrift for massive burst damage and Essence management. Keep Bone Storm active for damage reduction and Aspect procs.
  4. Mobility and Survival: Kite elites and bosses during their Unstoppable phases (after 5 seconds of crowd control). Use Blood Mist as a “Get-out-of-Jail” button if overwhelmed.
  5. Boss Fights: Focus on stagger phases to maximize damage. Avoid attacks outside stagger windows, as conditional modifiers won’t activate.

Stat Priorities

  • Offensive: Minion Damage, Golem Damage, Critical Strike Chance/Damage, Cooldown Reduction, Attack Speed.
  • Defensive: Armor (cap at 9,232), All Resistances (cap at 70%, up to 85% with bonuses), Damage Reduction, Barrier Generation.

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Strengths: Extremely effective against mobs and bosses, tanky minions, high damage output with Soulrift and Ring of Mendeln, safe playstyle.
  • Weaknesses: Requires precise gear (especially Ring of Mendeln), can be squishy if hit too often, less effective in PvP or low-tier content.

Tips for Pit 150

  • Farm Mythic Uniques and Legendary Aspects through high-tier Pits and Uber Bosses. Check guides like Maxroll’s General Farming Guide for strategies.
  • Join the ARPG community (e.g., Icy Veins Discord) for feedback and updates on balance changes.
  • Avoid over-investing in armor or resistances beyond caps; focus on minion scaling and cooldown reduction.

This build is based on the latest Season 7 updates and is designed to handle the challenges of Pit 150, as supported by recent guides from Maxroll.gg, Mobalytics.gg, and Icy Veins. Read this like 5 times and it didn’t feel like a game.

Okay.

You will need to refine the prompts after that. Specifically pointing out the tings that are wrong i.e. 2 ultimate skills. AI is good at researching but it needs a lot of help to get quality results.

Considering the recent decades of trend on choosing the type of leaders all around the world by humans, I would take AI on any given day over them.

It’s coming for all of us eventually. I only use AI for concept art and ideas for sound etc. but I use real artists/musicians for the real work. A lot of people don’t take that approach though.
