Unskippable Dialogue

---- EDIT ----

Alt + Tabbing solves this issue; I still don’t see what that is necessary, why it isn’t fixed, and still wonder at why it isn’t consistent in continuing play states. THANK YOU to responders who informed of this solution.

---- END EDIT ----

Blizzard.

Can you…please…pretty please…Pretty f’ing please with a GD cherry on top…let us skip dialogue!!!

I have played the early access beta, I am playing the early access release from the full digital package purchase; I am watching content I have already watched and (presumably) will have to watch again on new toons due to the…ABYSMAL…amount of UNSKIPPABLE dialogue.

Everywhere I go…almost every side quest I do…unskippable dialogue.

You’re just wasting our time - you know, that non-refundable resource that every human has…our mortal seconds available to us on this Earth?

I do NOT need or want to spend 10% of my questing time on multiple toons just sitting there unable to do anything.

Your voice actors are great, and your script is great. I’ve also already seen it. I also want to get on with the gameplay experience.

FFS, FtLoG, let us skip dialogue. I can read faster than your cast performs.

LET US GET ON WITH IT.

I also do not understand why some things are skippable and some are not.

Side Quest A: Skippable dialogue, even though the camera zooms in and everything.
Side Quest B: Unskippable dialogue, whether the camera is locked or not.
Main Quest A: Unskippable dialogue.
Main Quest B: Skippable for some reason, even though it was more crucial than Main Quest A.
Main Quest X: Partially proceed with the quest, then have to TP to purge inventory or whatever…then I come back and I have to watch the SAME cutscenes I’ve ALREADY watched???

BLIZZARD.

Do you not understand what fun is.

Do you not understand that there is a difference between voluntarily spending our time grinding on repetitive tasks for the sheer escapism of it and holding us hostage with content we’ve already seen?

Do you not understand that unskippable dialogue / scenes actively disencourage us to PLAY THE GAME?

You have the code. It is already implemented in many places. Just…implement it everywhere.

FFS.

I have not noticed any unskippable dialogue, but i also let story dialogue play out for the most part.

Unskippable dialogue is everywhere.

Just pick a few side quests and try to push through it.

It’s not a big deal the first time you do it, as it is immersive and enjoyable.

By your fifth playthrough of the same thing, it’s…really tedious. It disengages from the game.

Unskippable dialogue was happening to me in betas and maybe once now in early access and I figured out to make it work, I’d alt+tab the game, return to it and I’d have the skip option available. If that’s what you meant by unskippable. Every dialogue so far has been skippable for me.

It’s a bug that happens here and there. When you are bugged and can’t skip, just hit windows key or alt+tab to desktop and open back. Boom, you can skip again.

I seem to be able to skip dialogue.

For example, take the ACT I main quest.

As spoiler free as possible, there is a first point where you engage with certain unnatural flora that cue a real-time cutscene. Not a single line of it can be skipped.

Progress further through the quest, and there are more of this unnatural flora you engage with, that trigger another real-time cutscene, and…you can skip all of it. (?)

Further in, you encounter again, and cannot skip. Then, the one after that can be skipped.

…what is going on.

Give us the option to skip. Don’t make it mandatory to be chained to the expositional dialogue.

I mention this main quest because it is the one I am currently playing. It became the straw that broke the camel’s back in terms of “OMG, I don’t want to play this anymore;” the issue if profligate throughout the entire game.

When the unskippable dialogue came up, I windowed out to write a post instead of waiting for it. Come back, Lo and Behold, I can MAKE MY TOON WALK FORWARD NOW.

Yeesh. It’s like you guys haven’t been making games for 30 YEARS.

This is definitely a bug. You should be able to skip most if not all dialog. I came to the forums to report this bug. Hopefully they fix it. Temporary solution is like others have said: you have to leave the Diablo IV window somehow and come back in. Upon returning, you will be able to skip that dialog. During the Server Slam, I was able to skip the bug by playing in windowed(not fullscreen), but now that isn’t working for me. I have to leave the window and come back in no matter what display mode I use. Please fix this Blizz!! Thx!!

I can confirm that alt + tabbing will correct this issue/

THANK YOU!!!

It’s a phenomenon that will present itself randomly. As the OP said, alt-tabbing out and back helps make it skippable again.

I understand the stress this causes. I can’t stand it, myself. It’s like running a marathon then being pulled over and demanded to take a seat and look at someone’s painting they’re proud of. Like, I just wanna go…I don’t care, sorry. Let me skip.

Really needs to be a feature to auto skip everything. No choreographed dialogue. No dismounting to accept a side quest and zooming in to listen to the start of some silly narrative while I pound escape. Please streamline this, blizz.

I don’t think it’s intended, I think it’s a bug?
Anytime I can’t skip a convo, or cutscene, I alt + tab out and back in and the esc prompt shows up.

I found that some dialogue is buggy in that it doesn’t allow you to skip but then I noticed that pressing the left mouse button a couple times would work and allow me to use the ESC key to skip it by holding it.

There is no unskippable dialogue. It is a bug.
Whenever I can’t skip, the dialogue I “alt-tab” (I click on the primary monitor) and then click back on the gameplay one and the option to press ESC to skip appears like it is supposed to.
Give it a try.
