Unplayable – 95-100% CPU on Low Settings, Crashes, Disconnects, Ridiculously Buggy

I honestly don’t understand how this game is still in this state. I’m running Diablo 4 on super low graphics settings, and it’s still using 95–100% of my CPU constantly. This makes it nearly unplayable.

On top of that, I’m constantly experiencing random crashes, connection errors, and frequent disconnects, even though my internet is stable and other online games work just fine.

This isn’t just annoying anymore — it’s frustrating to the point where I can’t enjoy the game.

At this point, I’m seriously considering switching to Path of Exile. At least it doesn’t melt my CPU.

Would help to know your specs and how long you’ve had the computer, as your OP doesn’t tell us much.

i7 12700H, 16gb ddr4, rtx 3070 , 1tb m.2 nvme 4.0

I’ve had this laptop for less than a year. It runs other demanding games without issues, but Diablo 4 constantly maxes out CPU usage even on the lowest settings, and the crashes and disconnects make it feel like something is seriously wrong with the game.

I downloaded it because I have some friends who have PCs, not laptops, and they also play it and have the same problems

I’m using a translator, sorry if I said something wrong

Give this a try, you need to drill into the 2nd link also, but the first one has the link to HWmonitor…in case you need to verify what is going on with your CPU.

H??

Isn’t that the low-power line?

The one you find in Laptops?

How many watts does your charger have? I ask because that’s the maximum power you can have when combining graphics and processor consumption…

An i7 that doesn’t have more than 30 watts of power is garbage for gaming.

Yeah, the i7-12700H is a laptop CPU but it’s pretty strong. It has a base power of around 45W and can boost up to about 115W. The charger I use is the original 240W one. The H-series is designed for high performance in laptops.

Potatoes can only do so much.

You should Feel proud your able to start the game.

Yeah, it’s probably a potato, but that doesn’t justify not being able to run a sht game like D4, especially when I’ve played heavier titles without any issues.

Works just fine for me….if I was to hazard a guess I would say there is more to the story regarding your computer.

But we would need more details

ok… that’s quite a lot for a laptop… and that’s quite a lot to cool for a laptop… have you noticed what the processor speed is during the 95-100%?

Also… I’m looking at the processor and… isn’t it the kind of processor inspired by mobile? The one that has very bad but very efficient cores alongside very good but inefficient cores?

I’m going to bet Diablo 4 isn’t even close to being optimized for this mobile-kinda setup.

If you can, try to have the game run only on high-performance threads/cores and not on low-power ones.

Diablo 4 have problems with memory, the game use much Ram and Vram, my recomendation is get 32g ram and up you in settings the Virtual ram for the same amount and limit the FPS to 60 max

Just checked HWMonitor. Temps are perfectly normal — P-Cores max at 62°C, E-Cores around 47°C. No thermal throttling. Clock speeds are also consistent: P-Cores running ~3.7 GHz, E-Cores mostly ~3.5 GHz, some around 2.3 GHz. The CPU isn’t overheating or struggling at all.

So no, it’s not the hardware. My i7-12700H is doing just fine

Sorry, I need to ask this:

Are those the temperatures under load? Because they definitely don’t look like those of a laptop under load.

If those are the temperatures you get after 30 minutes at 95-100%, then I’m impressed and it’s definitely not what I thought.

I ran Diablo IV from a 3rd gen Intel i5 w/8 GB RAM from a 2012 laptop.

I would guess there’s something else going on with the OPs machine.

Those temps are from HWMonitor while playing Diablo 4. I had already checked them before using Core Temp, and the results were pretty similar. Someone earlier in the thread suggested using HWMonitor, so I ran it to confirm — and yeah, same ballpark.

I took a screenshot of all that while playing Diablo, but it seems like this forum doesn’t have an option to upload images — or at least I couldn’t find one.

I own two gaming laptops, Acer Nitro 5 (3050ti) and Acer Predator (4060). Both i7 and 32Gb with zero issues. It could be 16Gb of RAM and cracked russian windows

I guess 16GB RAM and totally-not-Russian-cracked Windows just can’t handle the raw power of Diablo 4’s ultra-optimized code. I’ll make sure to upgrade my OS from “Putin Edition” next time — maybe that’ll fix the 100% CPU usage on low settings

Well… I must say it’s the best cooling system I’ve seen on a laptop.

To post an image, you must upload it to a site like Imgur and then insert the link using the button </>

Your level should be 0 or 1 as you are a new user.

Sad part is, Microsoft owns Blizz so theoretically, they could fix it.
