I have now reached level 62 on my rogue - i have had 4 Unique drops:
1 x Grasp Of Shadow
2 x Word Of Hakan
1 x Windforce
And especially the Windforce made me really really sad - it was one of the best unique’s in Diablo 2 for the Amazon - and I remember getting it on my level 96 Amazon back in D2. So my exitement and nostalgia was soo high !! Until I tried the item and could see that it uses Lucky Strike chance - which i have about 10% of… so a 10% chance for the unique ability to proc - which has a 19% (out of 20% max) chance of doubling the damage of said attack. So it’s a 2% chance to double the damage. But I have to remove my crossbow which has a basic stat of 25% crit dmg - so loosing this already makes me do less damage and losing the legendary stat from my crossbow that proc 40% extra dmg for my twisting blade makes this a really bad item. So all-in-all - most of the uniques - especially for Rogue’s are utter useless and goes directly to the stash or salvage.
Please fix this Blizzard - it should not be, that the top tier items in the game, in general are worse than Legendaries !! Also, you are not able to reroll any of the stats on Uniques - making them even worse.
Am I the only one who feels like this ?

Some builds require too many aspects to use uniques and some have so few aspects you need uniques for it to function. It’s a weird combination of a lack of play testing and foresight from one of the largest game development companies on the planet.

Yeah - it’s funny how they wanted to appeal to casuals instead of the POE audience… but you still managed to make it so complicated (too many damage types / buckets) that it’s pretty hard to figure out without a 3rd party guide. Meanwhile the item’s don’t really seem to change much - not even the top tier items with 0.0002% drop chance. Pretty wierd for a game that is all about the loot !!
I have loved the campaign - though it was solid. And was looking forward to the gearing now that i have reached the endgame - but sadly… they aren’t really worth the time investment… this combined with the scaling up until lvl 95 is not good !

Most of the uniques are bad. The ones that aren’t are gated. Grandfather and shako

I absolutely agree, while Diablo4 does a lot of things right, itemization is a mess right now and I hope this will be addressed. A Windforce should always be ontop. and key stats should be fix. maybe have a sacred and an ancestral version , but now a
level 62 version
level 63 version
level 64 version
…
and so on. that should be for legendaries where the items are generated. but not for uniques

Yup as I just posted - every time I have found a unique it’s literally made me feel BAD / SAD - how is that a good thing in a game? I found your rarest item, and it made me feel worse about the game !!!
They are TERRIBLE.

What you have 10% of is the bonus chance. With the bonus, I have for Pen. Shot 52% chance PER HIT. And then, if I bypass that check, then it would be a 10% or 11% chance to trigger Windforce.
I have a somewhat different problem with uniques. I have picked up 8 uniques. However, 4 of them are the same ring - Hunters Zenith. This is a unique for a Werewolf & Werebear quickswitch which I do not run for my build. I am a straight werebear build. In addition to these 4 supposedly “unique” rings, I have also noticed that the majority of my loot, including sacred drops are also more aligned towards werewolf and/or a dual were build. In my mind this is definitely a bug as the game is assuming I want to play a dual werewolf/werebear build. I see many other werebear druids out there with Vasily’s helm, which is a werebear specific helm. I think one of those 4 “unique” rings should be that helm. Super frustrated and I am now looking to scrap my character and rerolling something different.
Wow, another thread with the same topic?
I can’t complain (with my sorcerer) so far.
Yes, …
- most of the uniques can’t be used for my build(s).
- I’m using 1 out of 14+ drops in my gear.
- I’ll have to start replacing my gear for higher runs (again) now.
- the item only works well for large groups that I can gather in one point to kill them fast.
- I got several for the same slot and they have the same for my current build unusable bonus.
- … and some are even cr*p.
- there will always this one bonus that you have to remove to add another one.
But:
- It works.
- I don’t need to get some kind of set that I can throw blindly in the slots because “it is so awesome”.
- And it is quite normal that “some” players have and “some” players don’t have luck with their loot.
- You get so many (legendary+) items that I only care about easier ways to find out if I should sell/shred/… them.
Just to give the “meh, I can live with that”-players a voice in here.

The campaign isn’t exceptional, its passable. It just looks good next to all the subpar aspects of the game.

They are absolutely terrible - one of the worst parts of this game. It quite literally feels bad when I find a Unique.

I could relate to being a rogue myself. Had too many feelings on this so I even opened a thread myself today just to say the same thing lol.
I am currently running a duo trap build and the Eyes in the Dark is just ridiculous beyond belief. It is pretty much a build-destroyer haha. Dunno what to say at this point. Right now, I much prefer seeing regular legendaries and ancestral rares.
I have broken or about to break all the Unique items I ever dropped. I had more than 15 or 20 so far.
They were either underleveled, (Mother ring of 40 lvl while I was 50) or completely irrelevant to my playstyle. (Sorcerer Elementalist)
Also, why do the unique weapons not extract transmog look?
Level 92, Here is what Ive seen… 15 Hakan amulets, 12 mothers Embrace rings, 7 razor plates, 3 Frost grasps, 4 rogue hats, 5 Rogue pants, both Bows twice, Condemnation 4 times with the last being a 800+ roll thats actually useable ( level 87), The other dagger finally dropped at level 90 and the item level was terrible. Level 91 I finally got a temerity, not useable for my build and my pants are already better utility. Level 92 I finally got a new drop, the boots that have built in air conditioning, not really useable for my build. So it took until level 92 to see a few new drops, and Ive built my rogue around the Hakan since level 58. Only thing I would like to see is the uniques to be level appropriate. Getting a fairly rare drop past level 90 and the item level being so low that it is not viable, only makes my in game wallet happy.

The Jade Tan Do Kris dagger with 4 to all +4 to twisting blades, +50% crit damage, Ghostflame Legend Spike+190-240% Enhanced,StormspikeStiletto chain lightning on attack, Heart Carvers Rondel no stats just +10 to twisting blades
cool stuff like throrns isnt to bad but needs to be double to amount to be viable instead of stats 10k thorns enough maybe 20k
Well, I might agree with you if I had that much variety of uniques, but I just get the same damn unique that I don’t want. So, what does it matter if they are crappy if I am never going to use them anyway. The uniques: drop rate, item type, stat rolls, etc. all suck. At this point I would just like to stop getting the same useless uniques that I never use. IF that is what they intended, then why even go through the trouble of calling them uniques. They should just call them pretty POS.
I’ve been vendoring most of my uniques, they are just crappier version of the rare item I want with a gimmick.
Finally got Penitent Greaves and it was a downgrade from a rare item I found, which I had switched one of the unwanted affixed to something more useful and added legendary imprint to. At this point, I am not sure if keeping Penitet Graves is really worth it or not, I think I get better synergy for twisting blade rogue build, but no way to validate it.
We all have this opinion for some reason, maybe because we do not find uniques exactly how we like them. Or those we would like to drop.
But thinking about it there are at least a few that are useful depending on your class and build.
Using many of them simultaneously is NOT advised. You miss out on important aspects.
The Unique items I found myself using are:
- Penitent Greaves. A must for most mages.
- Overkill. Tons of splash damage.
- Rage of Harrogath. Solid Utility
- Razorplate. Pure damage and fun for PvP
- Mother’s Embrace. Utility
- Flamescar great wand for the emerging Fire mages
- Esadora’s Cameo
- Fists of Fate, more people should try it.
- Staff of Lam Esen
And a couple others.
My main beef with Uniques is that as all other drops, they are much lower than you need them when they drop.
They end up to the merchant or a collection if you have space in the Stash.
I think Unique items should be tuned to match the level of the player better. Or scale.
As for aspects, i feel like +2-3 Skeletons Mage and Warriors should have been a passive in Book of the Dead. (Based on reaching level 50)
Leaves room for another unique or 2 more aspects.
