Uncovering the Map - Fog of War

I like how in D3 if I already explored an area, that part of the mini-map uncovered, telling me I’ve already been there and killed everything – no need to go back.

In D4, I find myself running in circles not knowing if I uncovered a certain area or not.

Is there a way to not have the map uncovered by default?

Not sure what you mean. Press “M” and you can see the areas you haven’t uncovered.

Looks like this has been a Diablo staple going back to at least D2. Googling around, It’s called a “fog of war” on maps.

“M” brings up the world map. I specifically stated the mini-map (map at the top right of the screen), in my OP.

What is uncovered in my world map also doesn’t necessarily mean I’ve never been there before. It looks like the world map just saves current campaign progress, not current game progress.

I agree on this, the map in D4 is very bad. When going in to a new area you “uncover” a large section without even having to go there, this way it looks like you have been there but you still have to go close to say statues of Lilith, very bad design.

Also the mini map in town is very hard to navigate as it is white and grey.

I don’t know why they made it that we automaticly almost know the whole map when we enter to an area.

Even if Diablo 3 and 4 both have fixed maps, at least in D3 we had to discover the world, and got a veil on top of the map after reentering next time.

Here it really degrades the feeeling of discovery. Yet an another mechanics found in MMOs.

I had same issue, this should be changed.

You uncover the area you enter 100%.
That is was he means.

The worst about the design is not that it uncovers large sections, it is that it only uncovers the ground, so finding stuff inside is very hard as it looks like you have already explored there without finding anything
