Uncommon opinion - Make the game harder

Having played games like Maple Story and FlyFF many years ago (and absolutely loving it), I think that:

  • Leveling up in Diablo should be slower. Getting to level 100 should take months, not days.
  • Getting unique, legendary, and even rare items should be MUCH harder. Imagine if getting a legendary drop would actually be rare and exciting (maybe happens once every few days), so you appreciate these items much more.
  • Enhancing items should be much harder and riskier. The materials should be much harder to get and there should be a risk of having the item destroyed if the enhancement failed (which IMO should happen in most of the cases).
  • Boss fights and monster fights should be harder. It’s ridiculous that you can kill a pack of dozens of monsters that are 10+ levels higher than you in less than a second, and that boss fights don’t require you to use potions and end in 5 seconds.

Just imagine if this game was much harder, and you actually needed to team up with different classes that use skills that complement each other to beat the endgame content and have a tiny chance of getting a good item, how much more exciting would the game be then.

Most of your points are about increasing the grind. Which would make the game harder to play for existing and new players but not add more difficulty.

I’m all for increasing the difficulty but not the grind.

Not a hater, but why do you want Diablo to become an old school Korean MMOs?..

Every thing in your post sound like what Black desert has.

Why not go try that ?

I agree,
I can basically do nm dungeon with mob 30lvl+ my level be it sorc druid or rogue.

The thing is you never gonna win with this generation of instant gratification they only want a arcade game.

Better enjoy the game before it turn into diablo 3.5.

Worst thing is all I see is complaint about the horse or some useless things that don’t matter at all or not enough legendary.

Play with only rares, no legendary affixes. There you go…enjoy and thank me later.

Well go back and play those games. This is an ARPG.

I don’t feel hate here, but I strongly dislike your suggestions.
I usally don’t like to play to experience personal suffering!
There are other games out there, which focus more on very hard and unforgiving challenges, but Diablo Series was never one of such and shouldn’t be, imho.

Maybe I got your intentions wrong; I also dislike World Bosses are on-shotted in 5 seconds - they at least should give a reasonable fight and not just be a short blip on the radar.
Otherwise, I see level-scaling as the problem with +10 mobs here - the scaling makes levels just an illusion of difficult. Its becomes kind of random based on your gear which level difference will feel difficult.

I fully dislike the possibility of losing items. This wouldn’t increase enjoyment, but gate your progression behind a wall of self-imposed fear. With current itemization, you need a excessive time to find a well-rolled piece of rare gear - having a chance of losing it would taint the last bit of enjoyment of finding one with fear.
In case of an finally found Legendary with good stats/aspect-rolls, I would just never consider rolling it. Especially if there where super-rare as you suggest.

Both things employ annoying gacha-(gambling)-mechanics where you add layer of layer of randomness to keep people enslaved in some progression loop.

Leveling is a topic for itself. But I think you need to differ between people who can and will play through L100 in 2 days and others who need 2 months. D4 seems² to be conceptualized towards casuals who don’t have that much time a day or week. Those players should obviously still be able to gain a feel of progression.
Currently L70/80 till L100 already feels quite slow, since you may already be set in you gear, so there is nothing more to achieve than just gaining Xp itself. (I don’t U-Lilith as a goal here)

:man_shrugging:

²: in fact it seems trying to please everyone’s needs, casuals, grinders, anyones, which gives me the feel of an scizophrenic game identiy crisis.

I agree, but this is community of whiners. They already nerfed difficulty by about 30% because of all the whining. Diablo was always game for casuals.

Irony form the rose tinted glasses wanna be hardcore that wants all games hard and slow. No one loves a slow slog forever to level game with souls like bosses that most working dads gives up on before they even get close to endgame. Every MMO had this moment of awful feedback that some patch like this go live and most people quit and the devs have to again work making changes to win back a few players. The hardcore is always the first to run after noticing its not fun and later ask for the same thing again and again in every new game.

D3 vanilla had this moment and it was dying till ROS went live and scrap what soul it had left to only again have this feedback that killing D4 as it still having it honeymoon. Its a joke as we could ask for more modes like extreme hardcore and softcore than make everyone suffer. As I am sure this the final Diablo game.

I casually complete all the games i purchase.

Even though I kind of liked how D3 was in the beginning. When I saw a legendary I got all excited which isn’t exactly what I feel now. And back then, those legendaries didn’t even have aspects. That being said, this is most definitely not something the majority of players would enjoy, so It’s not an option to go back to if Blizzard cares about it’s players. Simple as that.

Soon. It’s called Torment V.

I agree: game is very easy to leveling. Too many drops (same dissise in D3) Generally too easy game (and I play as sorcerer)
Leveling should be 500% longer and cap of levels should be at 120-130 or infinite with lower paragons (not 5 but 1-2)

  • Level up can’t be slower because they decided the game seasons will be 3 months long. It’s already too slow.

  • Gear drops can’t be hard because every build is tied to specific aspects/uniques (also, short seasons). I’m not saying this is good, but it is the design they picked for the game.

  • Breaking chance in gear upgrades ? It already costs milions after 2~4 tries and after a while the cost is so prohibitive that breaking it would actually have been better… After failing you have to crawl to the blacksmith to break/sell your yellow item that costed 10 hours of gameplay + 70m gold. Yeah no thanks, upgrading cost should be capped @ 1m.

  • This i agree partially. Boss fights, indungeons, are crp. The only thing i like about boss in dungeons is that killing a boss is faster than walking like an idi*t searching for stuff to kill or killing everything, etc. Now, harder monsters ? ĂŽ don’t think so… unless exp bonuses are changed as well. I play necro (lvl 76) and use a kinda tanky build (also with shield) and @ nm dungeons (15 lvls higher than me) i get oneshotted by almost anything. It’s so bad that if i enter a dungeon with those living skeleton arther things i just break the key and try another one (they not only one shot me but they do it out of my screen)

The thing is that diablo 4 isn’t made to he a hard game (and they shouldn’t change this) but the truth is that at least it could be better… D4 feels like a steam indie early access game.

I disagree with most parts but I do agree monsters should be harder. A game where you “farm” monsters is a boring game. It’s more fun to be on the tip of our toes, or rather, on the edge of our seats.

i would agree
If they made the seasons last 5 months
not a mere 3 months

i do agree on that too , but they should , for that, make more builds viable and less gear dependant.

i agree too.

The very first time I entered WT4 at level 65 on my necro and even my druid, that is when I was in love with the game, it was hard, my actions or lack thereof had dire consequences, I was doing decent damage, but also having to avoid being hit, and it was fun!.. Then I hit the 70+… it it was back to just mindlessly face rolling my keyboard. I’ve been saying this since the beta… Diablo games should be hard, not time consuming damage sponges.

D4’s extemely cheap ways of killing players is such a disappointment. If I die because of a mistake I made, or couldn’t avoid a certain mechanic, ya, that’s on me… however, forcing me to lose control of my character with MoB CC for more than 4 seconds is ridiculously bad game design, worsst part… those CC’s chain, I got a video of me being, for 10 seconds, stunned by the snake eye thing, then stunned by an actual snake, then feared, frozen, then stunned again and… oh wait, here comes the butcher as well… I died. It’s terrible.
