After playing for a bit, I am unable to skip dialog and cutscenes with ESC. This has happened several times, and I found no way of fixing it, other than restarting the client (quitting game and logging back in does not fix it). When I first start the game, it works fine, but after some time the option to skip is no longer there. I have not been able to find a consistent cause for the error, it simply stops working after some time.

I am having same problem after the update today. Yesterday was fine was able to skip.

We are seeing the same problem as well. works for a while and then one person in a party will no longer be able to skip dialog. Might be party related. Restart fixes the issue for a short time, but don’t restart right now since you can’t get back in.
I noticed that when you switch screens (alt+tab, and then switch back to d4), the options become available again.

I have this problem as well. Two different characters, lost the ability to skip cutscenes and dialog at different points early in the game.
Same here, Please fix this. Once (or twice) is enough.
Edit: I tried screen switching (alt-tab) and still couldn’t skip.
Edit2: exited the game and launcher, still can’t skip.
Some quests’cutscenes show the UI indicator for how to skip them, some do not. The consistency I found was: left-click > it shows the UI telling you what button to press to skip > press Esc > it skips and you can resume playing.
During some quests/cutscenes this wasn’t working - clicking or pressing Esc did nothing, however if I Alt-Tabbed to another application and then Alt-Tab back to the game, it then allowed to skip using left-click > Esc. 4
I guess this works for some people, didn’t work for me

I was also having this issue, for me i was able to fix it. Temp Fix: Windows key then mouse click back to game screen
A way around this is to tab out the game and tab back in and you will be able to skip cutscene.
This just happened to me in solo gameplay, so definitely not only in party scenarios.
This is happening with the major quests. It is very annoying.

Hope the alt tab trick works. It’s sad that this has been a bug since the beginnings of beta and still not fixed after launch.
i have the same problem, so anoying. sometimes esc click works, sometimes not. surprised this bug has gone on so long
Same here , it happened to me all the time
Doing those side quests is so annoying
I have to see all the dialogue to do one side quest , almost took 15mins per quests , it’s wasting a lot of time when u hunting your paragon points 
It will get fixed after you alt-tab
