Unable to Shred the way I want

And it is honestly starting to drag on me. I reset my skills and paragons and threw all my gear in the stash. I’m starting over with whatever yellows I had in my inventory and hoping I can come up with something better.

I’m whining. I’m tired. I just want a fast attack speed high crit shredding machine and I can’t seem to make it work for me. I was struggling earlier but thought I was at least partially okay until I played with a Sorc buddy. Had to turn the game off because the damage disparity was so disheartening.

Boohoo, git gud, skill issue, lrn2ply, I know, it is literally all of these things.

I just wanted to Shred the heck out of stuff without having to be a half-caster at the same time. Yes, I have the helm, that’s not my complaint. Just can’t get it to feel right.

Just can’t get it to feel right. Paragon is all over the place and I can’t quite get it the way I want. Gear upgrades haven’t worked out well. Constantly resource starved. Constantly uselessly flailing my claws at enemies whittling them down until eventual death. Just getting tired of it.

Behold my whine thread, I feel bad playing Druid at the moment and I don’t like it.

I was kinda going for the same thing and around act4 level 30ish, i finally switched to earth/bear and it really does feel better. I was still doing okay with wolf, using storm strike to keep my spirit up, but it just got boring and tiresome constantly setting up my attacks correctly to do the most damage with vulnerability and poison to set up shred doing massive damage. I still have to do some of that with bear, but it just feels better. Anyway, im still in act4 and havent hit 50 yet, so i cant really judge yet.

I had my rogue and druid at the same level and it wasn’t even playing the same game. I was getting like 3k dmg for rabies and 6-8k crits on shred… meanwhile my rogue could drop 4 poison traps for 18k each.

It honestly was almost comical how bad it is. I will say this though that WW druid feels right in the sense of the game should be like thats for everyone. In a vacuum it would be the sweet spot between difficulty and depth.

The issue is that other classes are 10x your damage. And the game is actually designed with those numbers in mind.

I would focus on vuln proc and then add shred as the damage core dealer.

Reposting what I wrote in another thread:

Truth be told, none of the build are really good but you just have to find one that fit your playstyle.

I liked clicking a lot, alternating left and right click and move things quickly, I came from RTS background, and dota so I like that kinda stuff. Then use the build I recommend below

  1. Earth stuff, trampleslide
  2. Lighting and storm
  3. Bear
  4. Companion

Personally, I am running bear + vuln (storm), it might not be the highest DPS but it feels great clearing dungeons.

Vulnerability is the OP stat. I suggest you get everything to synergize vulnerbility proc. I think no other builds really give you that feeling or killing tons of things as good as vuln proc stuff.

E.g. Fierce Storm Strike, Primal Pulverize, Innate Cyclone Armor, Elemental Exposure, and Natural Hurricanem then finally Supreme Cataclysm, then pick Perfect Storm for ultimate

Druid is like low damage until you get the aspect you like, which is when you get to level 70. you have grind for the rest of the way to get there.

I feel like throwing all your gear away was a bad idea lol.

I’ve been playing dire wolf build from level 50 through 72. Im getting bored with it, but I don’t think I can play any other Druid build because dire wolf is just so fast. And the constant fortify, massive move speed boost, and insane spirit cost reduction makes shred spam so easy.

The only issue I’m running into is elites just one shotting me randomly. But I should probably look for more sources of max HP and damage reduction.

Once you try werenado which is the laziest most boring gameplay, you just wont play any other druid. Nm 60 end boss? Dead in 2 seconds.

Entire giant rooms of elites? No problem casually toss a few tornados as you walk by.

Oppressors got you down? Walk in with defensives and spam nado until they die. Remember to dodge away from explodey things sometimes.

Close eyes hold down right click clear dungeon.

If i could play shred and hit big aoe for 300m as i sniff my own farts i would. Hell, if shred bad anything to offer or was within 20 percent performance of tornado i might play it even though nado is so easy because ranged while shred requires work.

Nado is so above any other build, the only reason to play aomething else is you havent found tempest roar yet.

Nearly lvl 86 and about to fill out important stuff on another paragon board. Would like to find a new grizzly rage to put it on an amulet since its a little spirit hungry on a ring but haven’t seen one for like 40 nm dungeons now.

Ideally for wereando you’d want the dire wolf aspect on a 2h staff (which can roll up to 100% spirit reduction cost). I still think shred’s damage is too low.

What level are you? I got Shred to work extremely well for WT3, but for WT4 now I am doing more of a Shred/Bulwark hybrid.

I was using the Waxing Gibbous proc to make Hurricane stack up Rampaging Werebeast and I didn’t even have Tempest Roar, I’d simply cast Hurricane before popping Grizzly Rage. With Stormclaw’s Aspect and Accelerating aspect the damage was great. Dire Werewolf in the amulet for 75% Spirit cost reduction. Exploit glyph to apply vulnerable.

You can’t skimp on crit. You need a high roll of crit on both rings, your offhand, and your gloves. I also reccomend cooldown reduction so you can keep Grizzly Rage up.

I second this. I’ve found that rolling CDR on a totem helps tremendously with grizz rage uptime. Lucky hit is such a wonky mechanic that it doesn’t seem like a reliable stat to build around (calm before the storm)

Unfortunately Druid is balanced around Werenado. Like toxic claws would be great on a Shred build if it wasn’t base DMG but if they changed it, tornado just becomes even stronger.

You guys do know that the storm tonado werewolf is currently the best build in game right? Kills ashava solo in 3sec

Neat.

What’s that got to do with Shred?

They need to tie all the base werewolf skills together so there’s synergy between them. Right now they are just a collection of abilities that only share the same color on their icons.

@UndeadFiend We know. I actually really like the werenado build. I think it’s unique and a pretty cool archetype. What we’re looking for is to have pure werewolf have a decent build right along with nado.

You realize you need that helm that literally never drops for 95% of us yea?

Are you level 100 already or are you still leveling to 100? I feel like I’ve got a really good attack speed crit shred build going for at least leveling to 100. Theres extra points to play with too, so I threw them into lucky hit lightning stuff.

Still working on it. I was a bit disheartened last night when I posted this. I realized I was whining, and still feel a bit put off. I was playing with a Sorc friend that was melting things around me and I just felt useless. I’ll take a look at the build, for sure.

Going to spend some time doing some same-level NMs in the interim. Need to finally take the time to level my glyphs. Maybe I’ll get lucky with some drops during.

Its not whining if you are struggling to get a build to work and need to ask for help figuring it out.

Its whining when people start getting dramatic saying stuff like “its impossible you can only play the builds that need uniques! blah blah blah”

Play whatever build you want.

I personally cant go back to sweating on a shred build thats heavily optimized for maybe nm 60s vs drooling on myself on 70+ nm stoned while holding right mouse button down on tornado and never dying while going 100x faster.

I think most people have limited tolerance for not being efficient. Path of least resistance is human nature.

If i could make any shred combo anywhere near the performance of tornado, i would, but its not currently mechanically possible.

Shred would need removal of reliance on dashing with massive defensive modifiers added innately to the build. As well as probably a gigantic single target damage buff and a large aoe damage buff.

As it stands a tornado can hit 100x the monsters claw fan from a safe distance and do 1000x the damage or more with way less effort.

The onky drawback would be oppressors. But thats still just as bad for shred because youre gonna die while tornado can walk in and melt everything instantly. Good defense via vastly superior offense.

The second drawback is you need the helmet which sucks. Thats the only issue. Its like using claw at any point in the game or lacerate. Go ahead if you want, but tone the difficulty way down and accept youre gimping yourself. And it feels bad to press buttons that suck in comparison.

Mechanically WW is dead. You play with other abilities and legendaries to use those abilities in WW. it would take a tremendous amount of effort and an op set to make a WW build viable without massive changes to the abilities.

Even attempting a shred build you are only playing shred. You play grizzly rage and maybe debilitating roar. You can try to optimize until youre blue in the face with every other ability and a matching leg. Cyclone armor, bulwark, you name it. In the end you reach the same conclusion. Shred is inferior mechanically and has too many drawbacks. Just like claw. Just like lacerate. Just like rabies.

Only blood howl remains which is incredibly bland. Poo.

This is a massively terrible take. Every build in the game is inferior to tornado wolf. That doesn’t make every build in the game dead. It doesn’t take “a massive amount of effort” to make shred work. It works just fine without uniques.
