I found an Item with a nice Aspect at Level 20, extracted it at Level 25 when i found a better Item and imprinted it on that Item. I found an even better Item at level 35, but now i cannot extract the Aspect. This only seems to happen with Aspects extracted originaly from an Item that go into your Inventory. There is no restriction (i am aware of yet) with re-imprinting aspects from the Codex of Power.
Is there a sensible justification for this? The chances of the same aspect dropping multiple times are quite low. The âsolutionâ would be to hang on to a low level item with a decent aspect until you are a much higher level. What is the point in doing that?
I find this more than a little frustrating.

Itâs to prevent people like you to reuse the same aspect over and over, forever.

Thatâs one solution. The other one, which is intended, is to keep farming dungeons and bosses until you get it again at a higher level (and then again, and again, etc.)

they want you to hold onto that rare you found in your stash and wait to find another item to extract the power from. Then as you continue to play the game with your weak character, future upgrade in stash, you may find an even better item so you put that one in your stash instead then keep playing your weak character.

So it seems. But why is that a problem? Iâm building a Necromancer, the aspect i found added extra Skeletons. I like minions. But now that bonus is pinned to a not-so-good item. I can just persist with it, or change my build when i find a better Aspect linked to a different skill. Seems a bit harsh and i ask again âwhyâ is it a problem if i want to re-use something. Itâs not like imprinting is âfreeâ anywayâŚyou need consumables that can be hard to find.

I understand where youâre coming from, that exact issue is why I swapped to CE Shadowblight because I have like 5 different copies of âextra magesâ but the last âextra warriorsâ aspect I found was 30 levels ago. I keep rolling boots from obols and caches because those can only have like 2 different aspect categories, so the Aspect pool is quite limited â and I keep getting shafted.
CE Shadowblight however really only needs 2 Aspects to function, plus a third if you want QoL of grouping enemies up when you Blight. So I swapped to that because that lets me upgrade many more slots of gear without worrying about the aspect, err, aspect of gearing.
If swapping specs around wasnât assload expensive, it would be a much lower pain point. But it is what it is.
All of that being said, I actually think the way they have it set up is GOOD for the game. Ironic thing to say given I just spent several paragraphs complaining. But it makes me actually care about planning things out, it makes me actually appreciate when something useful drops, and it makes the classes have more identity.
Back in D3, your class was defined by what set you wore. Before that in D2, it was âdid you have Enigma, yes or no.â But here, the âoptimal pathâ is often nontrivially difficult. So you make the best you can with what you have.

I wish we could reuse what we extracted over and over again

As you get higher level itâs not as big an issue as it appears. You find tons of legendaries. Eventually youâll get the good roll you want. Keep copies of the high rolls of affixes you want. The difference between a good roll and a great roll is pretty minimal.
Lol i learned this the hard way too
. I get the mechanicâŚfinding an Uber aspect really shouldnât set you up for the rest of your days. BUTâŚit would be nice if all the found aspects had baby versions in the codex (maybe they do?) as a burning sorc Iâve had a devil of a time (cwid?) finding aspects that do anything for me. If i was lightning Iâd be set.

Caring about planning things out, appreciating when something useful drops, making the classes have more identity i agree are all good things for the game. I canât quite grasp how the âimprint only onceâ restriction really contributes to any of those things though
Just a little disappointed that my nice minion summoner might have to become a bone spear flinger if i donât get the right drops
Would it be more fun to never have to find another aspect once you found the best one? As much as it sucks to lose that awesome aspect, in the long run i think it would be awfully boring to not have to hunt for a replacement. I wouldnât cry one tear if they changed it because i found a juicy, apparently rare aspect that supercharges my fire sorc, but i see the wisdom in keeping us occupied. I dunno maybe let us use them twice?

I now see light at the end of the tunnel⌠
If you are forced to go without you can always try something new.
For the days that edgemaster was disabled (+40% core skill dmg when primary resource is full), I ran with +16 seconds on my bone storm. Really enjoyed it.
