Ultimately a boring game; a waste of time

Diablo 4 is in the end a waste of time. Yes, the initial storyline was interesting as was the game play. It is also commendable that progress doesn’t hit a pay wall where your wallet becomes your sole means of further progression. However, that is where the merits of the game ends. Unfortunately, the game lacks any real end game or reason to continue playing.

A person will spend hours grinding out levels, skill points, paragon points and gear in an effort to get ones character to level 100. The seasons offer little more than the opportunity to level yet another character through the same old quests and zones that you did in previous seasons; maybe with a handful of different additional quests to supplement the a new story but essentially they you’re running the same content as you did the prior season. You will find yourself again, helping an NPC obtain a chalice so she can rid herself of a demon that you already vanquished from her in the prior season. It is an exercise in repetitive conditioning; preparing people for the monatny of flipping the widgets on a conveyor belt in repetitive fashion. That essentially is the only ultimate objective of the game - a quest toward a fruitless experience, where all ones effort & time only leads to doing the same content again but with added difficulty.

In the process of leveling, a person will run the same content over and over again to the point of boredom. Yes, there are often grindy and repetitive aspects in every style of game like this and that is understandable. However, there is no real point at end game as it offers you no new equipment or benefit. It is like planting a tree, tending it but only for that tree to bear no fruit, and essentially whither away in an eternal realm.

Hardcore fans will scream that there are objectives to work toward, and harder dungeons levels to run. I understand, it’s like telling an indoctrinated child that their favorite beliefs are fantasy; anger and emotional outbursts often are expressed by the indoctrinated when confronted by reality. Yet, rationally what is the value working toward unlocking cosmetics from the season pass? What is the value of spending time upgrading all your chosen glyphs and improving the equipment and strength of your character only to be confronted with the same dungeons you ran multiple times while leveling, gaining glyph levels or equipment acquisition?

The lack of end game content makes the game a time sink, a fruitless quest to go nowhere. Yes, great you got your character to level 100, you got that shiny mount and gear you wanted, your glyphs are maxed out… congratulations! Now what? In the end you’re still running the same old dungeons at harder difficulty, for the X+1 time, for the same rewards and gear you received back at level 50.

The game is a waste of time with no real end game content to be enjoyed. No reason to run dungeons as in Neverwinter so that you can obtain a coveted gear piece gear/item, or no end game PVP game modes like in BDO where you can test your skill and collaborate with others to bring your guild to victory. It’s just Henry Fords conveyor belt and your turning the widgets but you instead of being paid, you paid $$ for the monatny.

The same could be said for ANY video game.

I guess it is up to the individual and their preferences on gameplay.

Question. Are you able to solo a lvl 90-100 dungeon? How about uber lillith? Achieve all the pvp rewards?

To me, those are the things i consider end game.

The rest of your post is just a wall of text I dodged instead of being crit for over 9000

Or, I don’t know, you could just have a different perspective?

How said perspective equates to being an indoctrinated child is beyond me.

Just kidding, I know it’s a passive aggressive attempt to defend yourself ahead of time by placing the thought in the readers mind that should their opinion differ from yours then it would make them a child so they are automatically going to fall into 2 categories.

  1. They agree with you and everyone is a brainwashed toddler.

  2. They have a different perspective and you ready the “troll this, troll that” comments.

The reality is, you think your opinion is some intellectually profound statement that others should follow and philosophers will be studying its parts for years to come, BUTTTTTTTT; there have been 3,784 posts of the same exact thing and at the end of the day, you could have just done this:

I’m just not into the game. I’ll check it out later when they tweak stuff. Just my opinion.

Have fun y’all!

Boom! Done!

Instead, look how much time me and you have wasted. We could’ve saved a tiny baby whale from being beached which would have pleased the hippies and created a branch with the non-hippies and created peace for an instant that causes a ripple effect in time and when the aliens decide to announce themselves, they will say that they have spared our planet due to that one event.

Now who feels like a child…….

My opinion is my own and I’ll share it out how I desire. As far as addressing criticism ahead of time, that is writing 101 not passive aggressiveness. I am not passive aggressive, I am proudly aggressive.

What one wants to read into intent, is up to the reader. If they chose to get insulted, instead of addressing valid criticism then that imperfection is theirs alone. I don’t have the inclination to hold a hand of a bonobo and teach it to rationalize as a human, and I care less about how it feels regarding my statement.

Just so we are clear!

Exactly why you missed the point.

Oh no. I got your point. I did not miss anything.

And you didn’t answer my question about the “lack of endgame”.

Have you solo’d uber Lilith and a lvl100 dungeon yet? Gotten all the pvp rewards? Are you in the less than 1% of people who have?

I knew this was an IronBuffalo post before I read the name.

I still have yet to try 3 of the classes to see how they play. I haven’t cleared Uber Lilith or a NM dungeon beyond 60 because I had fun in preseason trying to craft my own builds.

It’s true S1 is repetitive, however no more so than any other game in the Franchise. The new mechanic is interesting enough and had some weird implications for group play as few of the powers actually synergize together. Try rolling a rogue with their heart that taunts in the same space as a Necro with auto corpse tendrils everywhere. It’s complete chaos competing for who has CC of the enemy.

These powers seem to be best for solo play however which is also a good thing. Interesting implementation, however not really enough to carry for 3 months of content.

There are a few other wrinkles out there also, more unique named enemies running around the world with special drops, but those drops don’t carry any real power which is also a bit disappointing.

I think many players in the community are consuming the game faster than the devs can keep up. We need more skills and legendary powers added to game and more than one season mechanic to engage with. S1 feels very barebones to me with barely any real meat to sink our teeth into.

To some extent I get it, it’s free content. However the seasonal model is intent on earning more paying customers to keep the seasonal content coming. I feel they missed the mark here. Season 1 is just OK at this point, not spectacular, not exciting, just OK.

The game has the tools amd the playground to make it interesting and fun. More will be added amd its up to you to enjoy or leave.

You’re right! I’ve been having fun but, really, I should stop and just play another game - this one is garbage. Thanks!

PS - how long did it take you to type that novella

I understand your Frustration and sympathize with it.

I have admired that are not like they used to be.

Now alot of embedded responsibility I tied to the gamer.

The one that gets me is how all of them are now competing to capture audiences through game design instead of true product innovation.

For me Diablo 4 Will improve and become Great .

But I hear ya the days of just sittin down for a few minutes to unwind seems to be harder to find.

Most require 2-3 hours of decicated focus to progress. Or you’re locked into 30, min segments.

For me since I know Diablo will be around there is no rush to play.

Sample it here a there treat it like a wine :wine_glass: now and then.
