im grinding exquisite blood atm to fight lord sir, talk about slow … the mat grind is getting old, i think 1 to 1 is good idea, but i also wouldnt be opposed to moving uber bosses to vaults and nm dungeons above a certain tier, or adding solo raids and putting them in there or something like this without a mat paywall.
I would much prefer running thru chaos sanctuary to get to boss or throne room to get fight baal over grinding mats to unlock them, or at least speed up the mat grind
there wasn’t mat summoning until the day they patched duped sojs and ith etc… and reworked the game and characters. those were the best years of d2. after that patch i quit playing, didn’t have fun anymore.
Unfortunately that’s not true! And since this is the first Diablo game you’ve really gotten into that’s why you don’t know how untrue your statement is. It keeps getting further and further away from what a diablo game has always been because it’s NOT listening to what the playerbase actually wants. Things DO need to change.

There have never been summoning mats for bosses in a Diablo at the extreme level it is until now. It really kills the fun for me. I’ll do the Loom once and probably 10 Duriel runs then that is it.
People are still playing Diablo 2 and D2R to this day and they never have to worry about summoning a boss. ( there are circumstances to summon uber versions but it isn’t necessary ) The fun is fighting the boss not collecting supplies to fight the boss.
Never heard of key farming? Um…
That said, key farming is nowhere near to what spawning duriel requires, nor is it as miserable in gameplay.
The real problem for me is that you end up doing boring content and if RNG isn’t on your side you get nothing to show for it.
The way to fix this is two fold.
1 - Make the content scalable so I can play at a level that is fun for me.
2 - Add some form of steady progression to the system so it doesn’t feel like a complete waste of time when RNG hates you. Don’t really care what it is, paragon levels, glyph levels, whatever. Something worthwhile enough to do it even if you don’t get an uber.
Uber uniques should have a chance to drop everywhere!! Uber bosses should make it targetable and way more likey to obtain because if time invested into farming mats. Both playstyles should net same ammount of uber uniques.
Exactly. Duriel is boring and tedious on its own even ignoring the material grind. Walking to the altar and waiting for him to spawn takes longer than the actual fight. Please give us multiple difficulty settings to choose from with increasing drop chances up to like 20x. Oh, and fix class balance.
Yep I agree, bosses should be farmable without need to do any hoops.
Helltide/Whispers serves purpose for getting eq/ craft mats. Summon materials are pointless time sink that promotes duping/RMT.
Also Duriel isnt really an “uber” like uber tristram was in D2. He is like Baal in D2 and we farmed him all the time without the need for materials. I think it will be removed when the time sink will be deemed not needed.
Could the summoning mats not just drop from any event you participate in?
That way you will get people playing the different events and make the mats abundant so as to make duping almost pointless.
If you go back far enough, the issue was how they dealt with Uber uniques in general. It used to be a you weren’t going to get one unless you won the lottery. Which seemed ok because most were game breaking and you literally didn’t know anybody who had one. Once they added AoZ, a semi competitive event, having an Uber set that player at a clear level above. They could have kept Ubers mythical and everything would have been fine. But once they made them accessible, you HAD to have one and it was made worse by the FOMO when you personally knew somebody that had one. With the addition of duping, it’s now to the point you feel like you’re doing something wrong when you don’t have one. So really they should have kept it nobody ever got one and we pretty much all would have been on the same playing field. If one person got it and leveraged it to the top of a leaderboard, good for them. Same as winning the lottery. But with this, essentially gear inflation, they pretty much have to just give it to everybody or else deal with a million threads like this one.
Remove it let the game be fun instead of boring.
I agree if they are going to keep the summon materials then there should be a much higher chance to get an uber when running a boss. On the flip side I should be able to obtain at least one or two ubers on my way to level 100 doing various other content such as nightmare dungeons. Nightmare dungeons should have better drop chances as they increase in level.
Honestly though summoning materials need to go, its just a miserable grind.
i had MUCH more fun running thru Tal Rasha’s chamber to get to duriel then i do grinding mats to just spawn him , i loved running thru chaos sancturary to fight Diablo, maybe they should try out this system, tbh they should have a ptr server were they test things like this
Unpopular opinion, I much rather the farm of mats is removed all together, in exchange for a limit of how many times one person can use mats per day. This should limit the hassle. In addition, at higher player levels, especially at 100, they should improve the rewards from hell tides and tree of whispers, so they are worth running.
Also, Varshan, Grigogire and the beast on the ice should have an uber version with guaranteed 925 items.
That’s what I’m thinking also. No way these Diablo 4 “streamers” have people farming mats for Duriel runs for hours upon hours when there’s D4 streamers that appear to have “endless materials” with a group of people to run 80+ Duriel runs back to back.
People are just buying the mats from 3rd party web sites to run Duriel instead of grinding out the mats because players understand the grind for those mats is very tedious, extremely time consuming including the RNG mats for Varshan which are extremely lack luster. Plus, 1 Egg and 1 Shard of Agony from defeating Varshan and Penitent (respectively) to where the materials to grind and offer to summon both of those bosses makes the grind that much more disheartening which you need two (2) of each to summon Duriel.
From the Whispering Tree you can either obtain 1 Malignant Heart, 1 Head, 1 Hand or 1 Femur, sometimes you can go through multiple Whispering caches without looting one of the materials for Varshan. Sure, you can also craft caches to get some materials but even those consume the required mats to summon Varshan and also have a chance of a Malignant summon from World Boss, Legion Event, Open World Events or even from end of dungeon bosses to obtain materials but even that is not guaranteed.
Next is the Helltide to loot x5 Living Steel at 275 Cinders each. Sure, obtaining 500 Cinders total for both Living Steel caches is very doable in the amount of time the Helltide is active to include the rest of the caches to receive 1 Living Steel can add up. Granted, you can walk out of the Helltide with 20 Living Steel (if you choose your chests right, 75 for the Armor, 125 for Jewelry, 250 for Mystery cache) and conduct 5 Penitent runs which will grant 1 Shard of Agony.
So, you see the amount of time it will take just to rinse and repeat for say, 5 Duriel runs…that’s nearly a whole day of grinding just for five quick 3 min Duriel runs if you’re kitted out at Level 100 and possibly not even get a single Uber Unique to drop.
Having just to port into the zone, find the boss, defeat it, loot, rinse and repeat is much more welcomed by the community than grinding out RNG materials (which are not 100% guaranteed drops) for hours just to have a few Duriel summons isn’t as conducive for players in Diablo 4. There’s gotta be a better system rather than losing players NOT doing your content rather buy the materials to summon bosses. That’s not fun, that’s taking away YOUR content and making it simpler for players bc players don’t like the current material grind system.
I prefer no mats and a lower drop rate to compensate.
It really was fun. I got my Harlequin Crest shako from Shenk the Overseer, just a mini boss!
