For me, the biggest one is this:
Yes and no, blizzard already have the trophies they have nothing to prove, GGG has more to prove.
You are not wrong, but that for me leans into the product nature of the game, more than the game itself.
Most of these companies now serve themselves, look at the blockbuster movie studios and the medicore movies they make for millions of dollars.
Anyway this could go on all day and night so. It is what it is. Both games share a genre, but it’s not the same situation imo.
Pretty much as dishonest as making the new espansion mandatory if you want any decent game experience, with access to runes (Aka specific mythic crafting and meta builds) SB (The only viable class in S6) and so on…on top of a 70 dollars game, instead of a F2P one
Because they unfortunately learned from Bungie when it comes to live service game modelling. Feel free to compare the dev cycle of D4 compared to Destiny 2. It’s all laid out in the following video: From Box Products to Live Service
To be honest: this video pissed me off. It shows that they see a player base as a milking cow for revenue, how delivering a minimal viable product is good enough, etc.
Edit: now compare that to how Chris Wilson talks about game development: Designing Path of Exile to Be Played Forever. Chris Wilson at GDC 2019
It’s night and day difference.
Corperate product vs succesful passion project
ahahaah wth are u talking about?? you paid ±70$ for alpha build of D4 without ANY endgame on release… just shut up please
Didnt D4 have 30$ extra for a 3 days early access? Talk about predatory
D4 you had to pay a full box price that had 4? stash tabs. While in PoE2 if you pay 30$ for early access you get 300 points in which you can buy more storage than what diablo 4’s full box price had. Just that alone is more bang for your buck. And thats putting the whole game aside
Also Diablo 4 you are gonna have to PAY for every expansion once a year. PoE once you have bought the stash tas you want/need you never have to spend a dime anymore as every expansion is free.
One last thing that I’d like to add to this discussion. OP said 2 ARPGs 2 different visions.
There are no 2 different visions. PoE 2 devs have a vision for their game which will take a long amount of time to come to fruition with it’s ups and downs.
D4 has no vision. It’s being developed based on player reaction. This is why it always takes so much time for something to get done (that on top of corpo tangles).
D4 used to have a vision it’s true, however after all the allegations and subsequent changes in leadership of the D4 team, the people who came were both inexperienced and had no vision of their own. So we got an incredible messy game.
Their inexperience led to some bad decisions and a bad public reaction which was the breaking point.
WoW, Diablo 2, Starcraft, all time goats in their respective genres. There was ZERO player involvement and input. The devs of those games had a vision for what the game should be and they made the game as such.
Player, streamer and influencer input are a blight on games. Let developers act on their vision, let them fail so they can learn to do better in the future. I blame both the devs for being weak and honestly just bad at their job refusing to learn and at the same time I blame this game’s community for never shutting up.
D4’s failure is a joint effort from the devs with the community. It’s a class in how you should never develop a game ever. All this being said is now meaningless since it has been to late to save this sinking ship for a while now. PoE2 is just going to be the final nail in D4’s coffin.
Do better in D5.
Lol
I don’t think modern WoW has a vision either. The last couple of expansions have been extremely formulaic and safe.
Not really, people profit these days from such nonsense, however only the top level at the company has power and down the chain it goes, the dev’s are hired to make the game, but they are under instruction from above, at the end of the day, that is how corporate entertainment works and the battle between the workers to try and get results.
Also , these days, you cannot blindly trust any high level company, they have been messing up for years now yet here we are buying it anyway…
So yeah Idk, it’s why i dont buy on release anymore, unleash i cave with IP’s like diablo, or think its worth the risk, but other than that, I buy nothing on release from AAA companies anymore, and even now it’s taken self control not to buy voh. But I know it has not earned my money and I have choice, the pull only comes from the new toy syndrome in a game i can enjoy for the most part despite problems, but we are consumers, and we make the choice, even car companies screw up and make lemons.
Bigger the company the more I tread with caution these days.
That said if i can justify gambling some play money on a live service xpac that will be updated, I can think of worse ways to spend that money, But If i am going to prefer POE in a couple weeks, I can wait.
From what we saw in the quarterly updates during D4 development we did see 1 creative vision. Leadership and talent changes did ruin this vision and further live development even further. Nothing of the initial design philosophy still stands. Be it good or bad, that’s for every player to decide for themselves.
nothing. This is not a problem of missing knowledge. Blizzard made D4 the way it is as a decision. They care more for $ then for fun.
I hope they can learn a painfull lesson as when you aim to much on $ and treat your franchise like that in the end it will hurt you more then you benefit. So i hope for the sake of Diablo that PoE will hit big and bring Blizzard into struggle.
That is the only way i see that we will get a good Diablo 5 one day.
I personally still believe that people should/could play both gams.
The start of season 7 has me more hype then anything I’ve seen from POE 2, (And yes, I paid the $30.00’s for it), Why?
Because when I’m done with D 4 (any time) I can play POE 2, and vice versa. I’m highly assuming people here have D 4 and a good amount will check out season 7 at least one point in time.
So instead of rejecting 1 specific game, get/play both and enjoy what you paid for
OR
Play 1 game and be done with it, and if you choose to play POE 2 from now till Kingdom come, GREAT! ~
Get the heck off these Diablo 4 forums and STOP Posting about POE 2.
