Tried POE Today

I feel POE is just “Be overly complicated for the sake of appearing to be deep and complex”

Its a chore to get things moving at the later stages. Have to look up builds, spread sheet number nonsense, and all that.
Having all that is fine but you also have to make the game fun and engaging to those that dont want to spend more time looking at guides, videos , spread sheets, build calculators, than playing the actual game.

Sure, it’s far from a perfect game. The developers themselves commented numerous amount of times the game isn’t for everyone.

That’s an okay thing though. When you try to mass market an aarpg, you get left with this d4 mess.

The difference is:

You can play PoE casually, but you can’t play D4 seriously. Keeping casuals interested isn’t difficult.

Big difference imo.

He was talking about the special stashes (~10 different) that can stack items beyond their default stack size. And I don’t really thing that you need 50$ to buy one of each.

But whatever is its price tag, remember that the game is full F2P and the company need to pay its people. Also, more stash tabs mean more storage needed, so literally diskspace, and the electricity to run it, and the extra space needed for backups, and the maintenance cost (hard drive do fail over time and you need to replace them).
To me, paying for disk space is normal (price tag may be debatable). And I will consider 100% legit to have stash or charslot on the ingame shop, given the price is fair (I won’t go into the current stashes issues, I think that we definitely don’t have enough storage at start considering the initial game price tag).

Regarding your POE starter experience and the comparison between the two … yep 100% true. The game start slow, the graphical engine is 10 years old and the skill tree is really complex (but remember that all 7 starters are on the same tree). Almost any POE player will agree on that. But the endgame is a vastly different experience on combat and monster design (I’m talking about game-design, not visual-design).
It’s a mess of mechanics from start to end, especially for newcomer (the game really lack a newbro friendly introduction whether it is from GGG or the community) even if they are introduce one after another. But the more you play it, the less of a mess it is, given that you engage into the content and try to understand the mechanics.
It’s just one of these game where you have to push more than you usually do to really be able to know if you dislike the game or not overall. Pretty much like some tv show were the 2-3 firsts ep seem weird and not interesting because they were setting up things in a way that you don’t get, then you get to that ep that really hook you (or the one where you just give up).

I’m not saying that everybody must try POE, only that if someone really want to test POE, he should push to mapping because that’s where the content really is (anywhere between 10-15h to run the campaign for newcomers).

/PersonalOpinion: when comparing D4 to POE as they stand now, POE start slow and become more engaging afterward with its varied content build over the years and that overcome the old graphics, while D4 start well but become boring over time when I have to run NMD that all look the same for XP and glyphs while not really upgrading my gear, only to hit 100 and try to kill Lilith, and good graphics or animation doesn’t overcome that.
And I’m also one of these guy that like scratching my head with these kind of mathgames, that’s help for sure.

PoE was designed for the aRPG enthusiasts who thrive on Min/Maxing down to the decimal points, its not for everyone and PoE2 things might change, might stay the same and continue down the spreadsheet route, who knows until any further information and beta’s open up.

I still think right now, Torchlight 2 is perhaps one of the best aRPGs that casual players can enjoy even though its pretty old, and lets not talk about the sequels…

When it comes to fun, graphics are not everything. You can polish feces until it is shiny but it is still feces. That said I have never played PoE but in any game, gameplay matters more than graphics.

It’s not the size of the boat…

This is a disingenuous argument. People need to quit acting like this game is Early Access Stardew Valley being made by a single guy. No one had a problem with ConcernedApe adding features over time since it was his first game. At least developers making a Stardew Valley-esque game (if you are really old, Harvest Moon-esque) know that you need to have a fleshed out farming, relationship, crafting, and gathering systems that work towards a crowning achievement when you release.

D4 is made by the pioneer of the ARPG genre which has decades of experience in the genre. It shouldn’t be a large ask for a multibillion, Triple-A studio to at least be aware of the baseline features of a modern ARPG and try to have some version of them in the game at release. Maybe not fully fleshed out, but the framework should be there. I could have understood not having competitive endgame content on release day, but it should have been ready and rolled out for Season 1. We aren’t getting that until 6 months from now.

If only Blizz would have done what developers of Stardew Valley knockoffs do…

On the topic of seasons, the fault also is that eternal will not get the gear effected by the malignant.

Also I watched a youtube rant from scyushi explaining an eye opener about cosmetics and content.

The eye opener is that they have plenty of content to begin a season, plenty of cosmetics for it and for store on day 1.
Nobody I know around me has asked about why there isn’t set gear\ class set gear. One of the main reasons of dungeon runs\ boss raids.
Is that where our sets went?

Dawg where did you even come up with this lmao

BAHAHAHA

Diablo 4 is SO good that you installed a 60GB (more?) game and tried it out for 5 minutes just because you needed something else to do?

Every single one of these “PoE sucks” threads is laughable because PoE is better in almost every way.

All of these threads are salty D4 fanboys mad that they spent $100 on a 4/10 game when PoE is free and at least an 8/10 with far more content. Oh and it’s actually fun. And gear matters.

Where did I say that? No where.

not true at all its a completely new game. new engine. major changes to systems. looks far better visually than D4. It also allows you to play thru the POE1 campaign with the new engine and systems and changes. its actually 2 games in one.

Yes exactly, it was a design choice to use legendary (transferable through aspects) rather than sets.

Then why would you play another ARPG if you’re just SO SUPER enthralled with the masterpiece that is D4?

I’ve posted this before, guess I gotta do it again.

Story is better and more coherent

Tons of talents and a massive skill tree with limitless options and ways to level each class including 3 Ascensions subclasses per class

Hundreds of skill gems so you can play any way you want including VIABLE minion builds

Tons of endgame activities including Delve, Heist, Maps (with numerous modifiers - Ritual, Harvest, Betrayal, Breach, Blight, Bestiary…and many more)

TRADING

SINGLE PLAYER including Solo Self Found

The game is free (with semi-optional tabs that cost you a whopping 10-20 bucks for every single tab you need for the whole game - you know, the price of the battle pass every season except they’re permanent)

It’s a true iso-metric ARPG

Loot is meaningful with thousands (hundreds probably?) of unique items

You get more powerful and the mobs don’t scale so you can outlevel content and stomp things (go back to low tier maps to crush things for quick currency)

Then why are you here? Is it because they locked the ratings so you and your neck beard friends couldn’t review Bomb a clearly better game? So you come here to stir up controversy.

I come here to post about how atrocious this $70 game is and hopefully deter people from buying it when they could install a FAR superior ARPG called Path of Exile for free. Plus seeing you D4 fanboys seethe and try to justify the purchase makes me laugh

PoE is 10 years old and its FREE.

And it still beats D4 in many ways, such as bossing and itemization.

Sad.

I don’t care for POE either for all the reasons you listed, but Diablo 4 is pretty bad too.

Wow so you just come and say the quiet part out loud. You’re trolling to sabatoge Diablo 4. Reported.

Bro you’re so hurt by the truth that you’re going to try to get me banned from the forums rather than accept D4 is inferior and you could’ve gotten a better game for free and not wasted the allowance your mommy gave you

You even have EXILED in your name!!! HAHAHA shows right there which is better!
