Neither on WOWHEAD nor anywhere else on serious sites is it written how to make the Chests of Chaos appear with Grim Favors at the Tree of Whispers. is it a puzzle? Are they like the old Diablo bets? Are they random? Who knows anything about it?
It is just random. The tree offers 3 random chests for you to choose.

For what it’s worth, I seem to get it fairly often. I won’t pick it over a legendary but if they are all the same I always go for Chaos. It’s usually a wide variety of things and no more or less useful than anything else from my experience.
Also consider, the type of whisper cache you pick, seems to define how much gold you can get. And since whispers caches in general, give the biggest gold rewards BY FAR… This is important.
Low millions in caches, is about 4. High, is from 7 to like 12.
I’m testing this hypothesis, right now. From 18 caches total:
- Chaos gave me high, in 6 out of 7 caches.
- Regular always gave me low, out of 7 caches.
- Greater caches, gave me 2 low and 1 high.
- Greater + chaos cache, just 1 and it gave me high.
If you have to do a lot of Enchants, or wanna buy materials for endgame boss summons from players, this is VITAL information I believe.
