What a terrible movement ability with controller
Had a new issue today.
Usually I activate trample and would like to move a good distance and end up moving two inches
Today I was in an instance in green helltide working the summon pillar event. Had multiple enemies close and multiple enemies at distance.
Previous history with this skill tells me it never does what I would like to do and it did not disappoint again. Today I needed to move a short distance to not break the event. I get stunned and hit trample expecting to move to closest enemy which is literally in top of me and instead travel across the screen and break the event.
This is skill is so frustrating and it tied to utility and unstoppable.
Again please consider the following ideas for controller use of traversal skills leap, charge, and dash
Button press - neutral direction
Move medium distance in direction facing
Button press - directional input
Move medium distance is direction facing
Button hold - neutral input
Move in direction facing until button release or barrier (wall/object - not an enemy) collision
Button hold - direction input
Move in direction input until button release or barrier (wall/object - not enemy) collision
Button hold - neutral input - directional input in the first 1s of charge different then current direction
Charge starts the changes to short charge in the direction changed or if you wanted to invest, create and animation for a turning maul attack in each direction and backward roll forward maul for back directional change
This IMO should be baseline functionality for these skills for just trample but other traversal skills as well. If you want the player to earn it then change the skill point in the trample tree for enhanced trample before it splits to buy the control feature.
I would also throw leap, charge, dash, and teleport in the group that needs more player control trough input / agency.
When these skills fire correctly particularly trample with trampled earth aspect, leap with earthquake aspect are epic a feel awesome.
Using leap in a world boss when it moves away and you fly through the air and slam the ground or trample with all the earthquake going off feels and sounds epic
Using those same skills in the same encounters or different encounters and getting wildly different results feels like terrible.
One time I press a button and fly across the screen
The next time I press the button I move halfway or less and don’t even hit a target if there are multiple or one target.
The player had very little control/agency same button keyboard press wildly different results
