Transmutation needs a change

I completely agree with the rule that once an item is converted, the converted option itself should be locked and cannot be changed. However, it is incredibly easy for players to make simple mistakes, such as forgetting to add sockets or accidentally skipping the upgrade steps before clicking the conversion button. I truly hope a future patch will allow us to add sockets or upgrade items even after they have been converted.

This change would bring huge benefits to the game. Players would be able to try the conversion first, and if the result rolls poorly or isn’t what they wanted, they could just salvage the item immediately. Currently, the crafting process is way too tedious because we are forced into a rigid sequence: Sockets :right_arrow: Tempering :right_arrow: Upgrading, all just to check the final conversion result. Removing this unnecessary restriction would streamline the entire crafting system and make the overall player experience much smoother.

Item Transfiguration in the Horadric Cube is I take your meaning?

And the process is S.T.E.A.M:

  • Socket - Always add you sockets first.
  • Temper - Add your desired additional Affix through Tempering.
  • Enchant - Remove an undesired affix by Enchanting
  • Affix - Imprint your desired Legendary Affix.
  • Masterwork - Upgrade the via masterworking

That is the general routine. Transfiguration is designed to be the final step. If you missed something, then that’s on you.

Sure, it sucks when you don’t get the outcome you desire, but it’s all the sweeter when you do get what you want.

And you can always use the “ENTROPIC TUNING PRISM” in the cube to remove the risk of an unwelcome result, at the cost of the most desirable outcomes.

And make the game too predictable.
