Bug description: When playing a Sorcerer with a focus (offhand item) equipped and transmogrified to the Spellbook model, any equipment change in any slot will remove the transmog on the focus with the message “Transmog removed due to different weapon type.”
Steps to reproduce:
- Create a Sorcerer.
- Obtain a focus that uses a model other than Spellbook.
- Obtain the Spellbook transmog.
- Transmog your non-Spellbook focus to the Spellbook model.
- Change any equipped item in any slot (swap gear, remove gear, switch rings to opposite fingers, anything).
- Observe that the appearance of your focus has been reset to the default.
As far as I can tell, this bug is isolated to the Spellbook transmog model, but appears to affect all equipped focuses.

The same also happens for the Necromancer class.

Same thing happens on my Necro, but I am sure it is a game thing. All weapon types and off hands should have their own transmog slot in the appearance save so that when you swap items the transmog always stays no matter what type of weapon or offhand my character equipts.
This does not happen with the gear so it should not happen with the weapon slots.
Same issue after release looks like Blizz, doesnt care anymore about it.
I have the same issue. Exactly as described, just got the spellbok transmog at lvl 65, and now i cant get rid of the stupid thing, it looks so silly with the rest of my outfit!
please fix
(even more so considering they’re selling accesories and stuff what if they arent working?)
This bug is deeper and weirder than the OP’s description implies. If the base model of the focus you are attempting to transmog away from (into something else) is the spellbook model, then its transmog will be removed any time you move any item anywhere in any inventory.
Not equipping an item. Just moving. Anything, even a gem. Even if you just move a gem from one slot to another in your stash and never touch your inventory.

Can confirm. I lose the focus mog if I move an item in my inventory.

I can also confirm this bug. I also cant apply affixes to the same item. It’s a leg ancestral so I should be able to.
Happens every time on my sorcerer. All I did was move a gem one space in the inventory and my cube transmog changed back to the folio. Basically, Just by moving something in the inventory you transmog changes ;p
This needs to be fixed asap because it happens everytime the focus is transmog’d.
similar problem for me, i have a spellbook but whatever transmog i use it changes back to the spellbook look, even if i dont change any items it randomly converts back to the spellbook look
Also can confirm this happens. Lose even the wand mog now.
This has been happening to me as well. Additionally, it will not let me imprint an aspect. I get the message, “Only Rare and Legendary items can have Aspects imprinted on them”. It is weird, because this item started as a rare and let me imprint initially.

Hoping it gets fixed. It’s not game breaking but it is rather an annoyance to have an in-game mechanic as the transmog but it cannot be used to it’s fullest.
Anything involving doing anything with items, whether switching out gear, using the Occultist, even salvaging, seem to change what your Focus / Off-Hand was transmog’d to. I thought was accidentally taking my Focus out of my slot at first when moving gear around. Realized that no, it is indeed bugged.
Happening to me too. I’ve got a Ancestral Legendary serpent stone and after transmogging it into the spell book any inventory change triggers it to revert back to default skin.
There is something wrong with the Spell book model in the game. You also cannot Re-imprint it if you have done so already. It is greyed out saying it needs to be a legendary or rare item to imprint.
This just happened to me today. Was driving my crazy trying to figure out why I couldn’t imprint it. It’s been doing the “transmog removed due to different wepon type” for the past few days too. Always the spellbook model.
Please fix this.

This happens on my sorc as well. Even moving an aspect in the aspect tab causes the “Transmog removed due to different weapon type” if it was set to the spellbook.
I guess it’s a good thing there isn’t a a nice Spellbook style cosmetic/transmog that people can purchase just to not be able to use it.
This is still happening as of the 4th of July 2023.

This is still happening for me as well. Anytime I touch my inventory at all, my spellbook transmog is removed. So annoying… been happening since launch…
“Working as intended” im sure. Big brain Blizzard.
