So something I have noticed is while using Trample is the short distance I travel a lot of the time.
Is there a way to remove the targeting system for trample and allow you to just run to the furthest point on screen whichever way your guy is facing?
I’m sure someone has a better idea to fix this issue.

I guess you are console? It is so bad especially when you have the landslide legendary. As if it was so hard to make a toggle for movement skills to go as far as long as you hold or always the maximum distance

Yes I am on console.
Maybe if they could prioritize furthest targets for the skill? If no targets then just run through?
There has to be an answer for it. There are alot of times I needed to go further in order to get myself out of a Oh S*** situation.

Happens on PC a lot, too. Sometimes I’ll even go the opposite way I’m facing, so not sure if mouse position has something to do with it.

Following this thread. I didn’t bother with Trample because movement skills on console are too wonky and unpredictable.
If they could go with a press and release to control distance and give us some control over direction of travel that would be great, similar to WW on Barb only Trample would a max distance if you didn’t release.

It’s like this on pc too. It rarely goes full distance whether or not there is enemies around. I have assumed the whole time that it is caused by terrain. Honestly trample kind of falls off hard unless you get aspect of trampled earth (I assume. I don’t have it). It’s most useful for mobility and ironically it fails at that more than not.
It should be like a channeling skill up to the maximum distance

Trample suffers heavily from the same problems that teleport had where the more you could see, the further you could go.
Unfortunately this means that if you ever try to move south where your hotbars are the trample ability will never go as far as if you use it north, or even better the intercardinals of your screen. Its really quite annoying.

This for controller players for sure! I think with KBM you can select the destination (leashed of course) with the mouse pointer.
With controller it stops at the target plus a couple “feet” through the snapped target.

I am wondering if this happens for me cause the game is targeting a mob behind me instead of the target I’m facing.

yup, nothing you can do about it… unless its a channeling skill like in Last Epoch.

I hope some devs pick this up and improves trample for controller. such a great skill if it didn’t snap to target on controller.

A work around I use when on console is to use the lock on button, shuffle through targets, or quickly dash away and then use. Best I could do on console. Sometimes it allows you to trample really dang far. With the slide on trample aspect you clear everything in one trample most times.

I noticed if the background doesnt load up on time aka lag itll stop short. Or if there’s like a corner and you even touch it slightly, it stop short.
This is the way, R stick click and find a target at the very back of the pack + reposition before you rip trample earth.
Glorious.
Still ALOT easier with K+M where you just point and rip
Which of you fine people want to know how to get around this on console??? you have to avoid being target locked. ie not target locked from last attack, not intentionally target locked, and not incidentally target locked by simply facing a mob ( you know that you are when their is a health bar for a monster at the top of the screen) unfourtunately, this is unreliable results, and you have to be aiming past (just to the side) of a pack for it to work right. which means tight spaces don’t work. otherwise its target the furthest monster away… untill blizzard does something about it…
For PC users, mouse pointer has everything to do with the distance of trample. If you want to travel the farthest, mouse cursor should be at the edge of screen before you hit the trample button. I tried playing using xbox controller and I can’t max out the distance. This should be fixed asap.
Yeah this really kills my trampleslide build fun, not to mention my damage, also not to mention all the time it comes up short and leaves me in the middle of a pack of mobs with bulwark on CD and literally get me killed as well.
I’m on PC but Im using a PS5 controller because I can’t stand KBM without WASD support.
I figure the easiest solution would be to have it be similar to rogues puncture shot; remove target lock and force max distance every time its executed. I’d rather go too far on occasion then come up short 9/10 times.
The absolute worst is when you’re dealing with elites or bosses and you just end up sort of shoveling them along infront of your trample and they take zero damage.
I’ve been researching it a lot and this issue goes pretty far back in the beta testing so I’ve got a feeling Blizzard has no intention of resolving it.
