(Topic not relevant anymore) Hard stuck in Torment 2, need advice on how to progress further! (s6)

I need help, and would love some advice.

I play this game with my husband, and we are both hard stuck on Torment 2.
We both cleared pit tier 50 to unlock torment 3 but whenever we switch to it, our resistances lower down significantly and we find ourselves dying a lot to poison and explosions especially. (And yes we do have resistances in our gear, for torment 2 it’s not a problem)

Torment 2 gives barely ancestral items, let alone good ones to be able to upgrade our gear. (Why is the game so freaking stingy?) We both want to upgrade our gear to full ancestral items and start working on our Mythic’s (Uber Uniques), my build needs 2 of them :sob: And we want to start farming bosses for it. We also want to farm for legendary runes in order to craft our Mythics but in torment 2 they barely (or almost don’t) drop, and since we are hard stuck in torment 2, getting to torment 4 and farming bosses seems very daunting.

I asked around, all good items and materials that are needed to get Mythics drop in torment 4 (even more ancestral gear with GA) apparently, or have a significant greater chance at least.
So I want to play this game, and progress but why did they have to make this so impossible to get there? It’s very demorilizing doing all these activities and getting only legendary, yellow or blue items even in torment 2.
Even gambling Obols give lower than ancestral items most of the time, this sucks!

Sure I love difficulty, I am NOT asking for a handout, I don’t want this post to be misunderstood. I am just wondering how people are able to survive boss farming, and any activity (even in open world) in the open world for that matter in order to progress further than torment 2?

So how do I and my husband proceed?

I need advice, any help would be welcome.

EDIT: I wrote this during season 6, we skipped season 5 and didn’t read patchnotes so we weren’t aware of the changes to armor cap, resistances and torment tiers.

We are now in s7. This thread is no longer relevant. We know how everything works now and no longer struggle. This thread can be deleted if mods so wish.

Are you putting gems in your jewelry to increase resistances? Are you tempering and masterworking your gear at the blacksmith? I’ve had mythics drop on torment 2 bosses it’s not a bad torment to be in for mythics.

What classes are you playing?

I’ve seen 0. Across 3 characters, which is now pointless because you have to bank on drops. Still seen 0. Also “stuck” in T2, even though my damage is enough to handle 4, resistances and armor keep me from enjoying anything that oneshots me.

When I opened Torment 2 in the pit,
I continued to farm IH on T1. Till I had all Ancestrals except 2 of the uniques I am using. One I have an acestral for, but the non ancestral has a much better damage multiplier. Tempest roar I have just not found an ancestral version yet.
But the big chest in IH Torment 1 gave me ancestrals. And I got lots of obducite.
And I can breeze through it with little to no risk. Also using opals.
Then when I got to pit 48 I moved to Torment 2 and spent like a few minutes there before opening Torment 3. Then I farmed Torment 2 IH for mats.

I know there is a bit of a pardigm shift from before…but I think the thinking was drop lower to farm up your gear. Farm where you are comfortable.

As for how to meet the penalties. I started with running a search in paragon to see where all my resistance nodes were. I prioritized boards with the higher resistance against all, and then one with lightning and poison, I put the other 3 in my rings. And hopefully by the time I hit torment 4 I will be above it (currently I am at 76% at my lowest with the Torment 3 penalties and I have the biggest gems slotted so far…but I still have some resistance nodes to reach). If not I will swap in these and lose an aspect.

So TM is really not an option for me as I use Mad Wolf’s Glee. So there are some uniques like this one fits my build a bit as I have a lot of cooldowns. I am also using lightning strike so all 4 affixes are decently useful for me.
Off the top of my head I know Yen’s blessing also gives a resistance against all.
But the uniques that do are an option to getting past the penalty. And both will be easier to find than TM.

Your last option is to use the defensive temper slots on gear to try to roll resistances. Yeah you will need to sacrifice something, I have shout cooldown reductions there so this is my last option.
The armor penatly for Torment 4 I already meet and that is just one GA armor affix and an Total Armor % affix on my amulet.

Edit: I also have two resistance affixes on my gear Tempest Roar has a lightning resist affix and my legendary ring has a cold resist affix.

Pit 50 and Torment 3 are exactly the same difficulty (including lowered resistances and armor).

  • use diamonds (or other gems for specific resistances that you lack) in your jewelry
  • masterwork any gear that gives you resistances (especially jewelry)
  • modify your paragon board to increase res
  • use poison res elixirs

You don’t need ancestral gear to survive.
For harder things (bosses) you can still go back to T2. I did so. You don’t need to master T3 all at once.

I will glady help carry you both to help get you geared, when I get home. I get off work in a few minutes. Just let me know.

I used those boots all the way into T4. I only replaced them because I finally got an ancestral for the barb accents ultimate pants that has even more resistance.

To add to everyone else saying it, it may seem counter intuitive but you need to sacrifice some DPS slots with resistance. Either with gems, tempering or one of the uniques with a ton of resistance.

I’d also say don’t worry about ancestral. I got to T4 o my barb with 3 non ancestral pieces. The ancestrals will come but the priority is beefing up your defenses. I also found that T3 pretty much requires lvl 8 masterworking. The master working will also help boost your defensive stats.

Take as many resistance paragon nodes as you can, you can replace them later when your gear catches up.

Edit: just wanted to add that T4 really doesn’t help with the drop rates. Legendary runes are like unicorn turds. I’ve been trying to craft a mythic for ages and just can’t get the runes. I’ve done 100s of T4 bosses and only had 4 total mythic drops, 1 was in t1, 1 t2 and 2 in T4 where I’ve done the most runs.

I haven’t noticed an improved drop rate for ancestrals either. Seems to be about the same rate the dropped in lower tiers.

I have to commend you for playing the game the way it suppose to. Actually, you don’t have to go to Torment 3 or 4 to experience the whole game. But I do applaud the urge to progress and improve.

My suggestion is to stay in Torment 2, where you can easily best the 4 lesser boss + duriel and Andy. Farm those material and hope for GA drop on gear or even better an uber.

Here is my list where in my opinion the best place to farm gear/mats:

GA Ancestral - Helltide is still the best, be it opening chest or stomping on blood maiden.
Glyph - You’ll will need your glyph to be at least 46 to farm better in T4 so u have to grind those pit. Pay attention on the paragon board, legendary Node played a big part now. Something if your point are restricted, get he Node instead filling the glyph.
Obducite - Farming Horde is also a good source for GA Ancestral and Masterworking material. I would masterwork 4 lvl on every gear I wear and will only 12 Masterwork any 2GA BIS item. Weapon will be my only exception, 12 lvl is need so you can output the max damage. damage = faster kill = fun.

Last Advice will be really understanding how your build works, why are certain skill or glyph is selected. what do they do? At least be a curious copycat.

I mean if its resistances that are keeping you from the jump up, you just do what you have to. There are nodes in paragon that can help with that. You can put gems in jewelry for resists. You can temper resists on to armor if you have to. You can use resist potions to help you out. You can use incense to help you out. Make sure you MW your gear too.

The best bang for your buck to target ancestral gear is probably the chest in Hordes. If you get some 6 wave keys and you go in there for target farming ancestrals, this is the best way. Its 7 minute content with at least one guaranteed ancestral.

For uniques, obol gamble use to be very good but I think they nerfed it recently. A lot of blues and yellows the last few times I gambled. Pretty much no ancestrals. I did still get 2-3 uniques per full bag on gamble though.

Are you playing spiritborn and looking for those uniques? If so I have a lot of extras I have saved for friends and stuff. Mostly 750 stuff left with mid rolls but its better than not having them

I’m right there with you
STUCK LMK how you get out please

What build? What gear?

The original post is from last season & the drop rates have increased since then, dramatically I hear.

Anyway, if the thread gets locked, create a new one with details about your build, gear, and whether you’re finding it hard to upgrade stuff (and what stuff specifically).

You need max armor 1k
You need all resists max
The craftable witchcraft gems this season give you both armor and resist all which will help get your maxes up…

Add 2 tempers of dmg or some dmg improvement of your particular build

Use aspects that synergize well together or increase dmg multiplicatively if needed.

If youre going for crit in your build then focus on as much stnergies with crit hit chance and crit dmg…

Same if youre going vulnerable…
Same if going burn

Are you still trying fireball hydra?
The growth Witchpower makes giant hydras by the way… as well as ever conheration… (even the rune summon wolves)

Im rockin all congerations and its a breeze… very fun and chaotic having 6 of every congeration out… and giant haha

This post is outdated and needs to be deleted. The original post was 2 seasons ago.

oh…
damn ok deleting my response :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m sorry for not responding earlier. I wrote this post during season 6 because I wasn’t aware that Blizzard had changed armor cap and resistances cap and also how torment tiers now work. We skipped season 5 and didn’t read patchnotes because we wanted to explore the new expansion and the changes on our own.

Also, we were doing infernal hordes and wiping a lot there so we thought that torment 3 and 4 openworld would be the same, turns out it’s not. We figured everything out the next day of me posting this, worked on our gear and practically skipped torment 3 and went almost straight to torment 4.

We were having so much fun on Spiritborn and I didn’t think that people would respond to this post with solid advices (I realised this a week after when we were already enjoying t4), I assumed wrong, that’s on me. I apologise.
I didn’t want to delete my thread just in case others were having the same issue during that season.

I will edit my OP post so people know in advance that this is an old thread and it’s no longer relevant.

I want to thank everyone for taking their time to read my OP and also coming up with solid advices, I appreciate all the help and positive comments.
