So I have been a strong proponent of trading in D4 because I feel like a healthy player driven market can add a lot to a game. Now zoom in on S6. Between absolute scarcity of Ancestral items, the insane rarity of decent aspects on those already rare items, the people who get off on being a virtual multi-trillionaire and buy up every item and repost it for 100 times what the value would normally be, the dupers, the RMT douches who feel it is their right to profit off someone else’s game, I am as close as I have ever been to joining the camp that says ban all trade and make items less rare.
To be clear I still hold out hope for a decent trade ecosystem, but I am beginning to feel it is a false hope. Currently this season is an absolute nightmare to try to get top end gear.

Khajit Iggi has wares, if you have coin. I got all sort of goodies, mostly for free if you’re interested.
Jokes aside, I do agree with you. Surprises me they haven’t disabled trading like they did last time this happened.

I had 3 people reply to my offer of billions of gold for aspects today with prices in $USD.
Obviously, I told them all to get F-ed and put them on ignore but seriously this is out of hand

If they cant get a handle on dupes ruining economy then they have to choose a path. Either make an AH that makes trades trustworthy or go back to D3 trade method and increase drop chances to make up for it or just flat out copy other games and you choose SSF with drop rate increase or access to AH.
What we cant have is what we have now with everything tradeable but nothing trustworthy to trade. Complete rekt.

I don’t see them going the AH route based off of what they’ve said. Now going the D3 route would be feasible and welcome in my opinion. They definitely need to do something though.
Banning trade (outside of giving your group members something that drops) in this game is the only reasonable option at this point.
Its been 6 seasons and there have been gold and item dupe exploits every single season. The items for sale on trade websites are so expensive that there is also no reasonable way to afford them by playing the game organically.
A single boss summoning material (literally 1) will cost you more than a 10 wave IH gold box, at the moment.
Paired with no in-game method of trading, you’re forced to use a sketchy 3rd party website managed and run by RMTers.
Trade in D4 also serves as an obstacle to balanced loot drops for regular players who do not trade.
There are currently no benefits to trade in D4, outside of it making the game much easier for people who want to pay to play.

Yeah I hadn’t even touched on that mess. right now I’m only buying consumables and items I can salvage for aspects because I cannot trust if I buy an item I will still have it tomorrow.
Edit:
to offer further insight… I am an extremely competitive gamer. PvP centric games are more par for the course for me, but this game looked fun and indeed for the most part i do enjoy it. This leaves me wanting to compete for top tier pit completions. as I close in on the top ranks I am hitting gear-based barriers and finding that it seems like the current scenario is only going to allow me to get that gear if I use real money to buy game items which I refuse to do. I find this extremely frustrating.

I think you have it confused.
Dupers and RMT’ers are not the same group.
Why would Dupers need to pay for anything they are just flat out cheaters. And Duping allows them to undersell the people trying to sell legit items they found or bought. Aka RMT sellers.
RMT buyers are usually people who lack time to play for 18 hours a day and would rather fight with their CC.
Gold sellers usually sell for RMT so let’s call that RMT Sellers. These are the people looking to take Real Money out of the game. This should have been stopped first and foremost by BLizzard…but maybe …I will let you speculate here on your own
I would say of the 3 the RMT buyers are the least harmful because they are only hurting themselves…but they do add to the inflated prices.
As for trading, you have the economy Blizzard has allowed. The prices are inflated, but you can sell items or boss mats first to get into trading with the inflated prices. Do not even feel bad about that if you wish to trade.

Dupers and RMT are much closer related than you think. Its an easy way to get gold and then sell that gold for $$$ to other players.
Maybe but how many people are going to buy gold from someone once one transaction disappears? Which is what is happening with Dupes…so I have read here.
I don’t actually buy anything with gold, I play SSF, but towards the end of the season I will sell my boss mats or other stuff if people want it. for gold. Especially if I am done with the season or no longer running bosses.

In a game that’s mostly about finding loot, that’s what is known as irony.
I hope that counts as being constructive.
I have been pro trading since launch. Maybe not so much in s6. The dupes are out of control.
While I do appreciate your simple explanation of the terms outlined in my op, I have been gaming for 30+ years, and don’t require a remedial lesson in game economies or related terms
I am currently at gold cap. I have no trouble generating gold. I am not lumping RMT and dupers together in any sense other than the fact that both are a scourge on game economies. but thanks for offering your POV.
Go Last Epoch or D3 route (on trading, don’t ever go D3 in any other context!).
I belive trade is important in this game mostly due to volume of affixes and the need to min/max atleast some for most builds to shine.
For someone like me that doesn’t trade much…mostly selling mats for what i think are fair prices, 4-5B gold is a lot.
No way for me to ever afford a 1GA for 10B with out buying gold.
If this is so rampant and Blizz seems to do little (from what i can see only, they could be banning like crazy) i ask myself…y not just treat buying gold as a subscription cost?
I won’t ofcourse…but the thought crosses my mind every so often.
For you it may be mostly about finding loot, and the ARPG genre in general is about finding loot, and Diablo’s roots are deeply loot-hunter, but D4 is on a bit of a tangent. It is clear the devs are experimenting with a sort of ARPG / MMO hybrid. Nothing saying you can’t still play the game as a loot hunter, but I don’t think it is really accurate to say D4 is primarily about finding loot.
Trading is what makes a lot of people stop playing this game too early since they easily get what they need and they have no grinding purpose anymore (Me included).
It is also true this season is not rewarding at all.
Perfect season 7 for me would be:
- Trading completely disabled.
- More rewarding loot.
- Armory.
- Balances.
This has been worst season by far for dupes. Lets just breakdown how this all went down.
Sometime a couple of days into season a dupe was found.
Trade was never taken down.
Bliz never acknowledged the issue.
I made several forum posts about it and they were taken down because the automated system lets anyone report a post so dupers reported it and it was gone.
Devs on Dtrade said they are helpless to the onslaught as its the hydra problem. Cut off 1 head and 2 grow back.
The dupes are still going on. Just search d trade for high value items and you can see them. Right now there are tons of duped quill items, interdictions, rings ect. All have the exact same stats or errored listing stats.
Where is the ban wave?
Where is the news about this?
What is going on here with dupes every single season???
