In past development devs had proclaimed that they had considered no scroll of town portals, limited scrolls or a long CD. I am wondering if this was considered for D4 and why it was not implemented.
The instant townportal shrinks the vast world you created. It makes the stacks of potions irrelevant because instant TP replenishes the potions. It makes the danger of dungeons vanish since you can TP anytime. It makes limited inventory size irrelevant.
There is a mod for diablo 2 called Hell Unleashed hands down best version of diablo ever made which removed town portals. This made the adventuring very dangerous since you add a new element of punishment for death (for softcore) and difficulty to escape situations (for hardcore).
AT MINIMUM, Tp out of dungeons should be limited to only when using the new very rare scroll of escape. At end of a dungeon, it would be okay to have a TP form to take the player out, but it would be better if the dungeon looped (like wow dungeons often did) or if it just exited into the open world.
Teleporting to friends is way worse than if friends had to mount up on their horses and venture out into the world together side by side. There are already an excessive amount of waypoints as well.
For those players that cry about this: Diablo is lacking and needs to implement DIFFICULT SETTINGS. This is also important because of Mob Scaling.
When you increase the tier to push into harder content as a character gets stronger – THIS IS NOT A DIFFICULTY SETTING. This is just normal progression. You get stronger so you go into a new zone or game with stronger mobs. That’s progression, not difficulty. The mobs are stronger but so are you. A DIFFICULTY SETTING s where all the levels of progression are easier or harder. Create a STORY MODE difficult setting that keeps the town portals, and adds in any other stuff people cry about to please them, while keeping the game good with the other difficulty settings (may i suggest normal, nightmare and hell!)
Tier 1 and tier 2 sort of are difficulty when leveling. however it falls short since once you get some renow, and codex tier 2 is overwhelmingly easy when mobs scale.
Tier 3 and tier 4 are not a difficulty setting. This is just a progression system.
Good example of how diablo iv is lacking is compared to pathfinder kingmaker which is also open world ARPG (albeit real time pause) with progressive difficult content, however kingmaker also has a DIFFICULTY setting in addition to the normal progress of the ARPG so that newer players start on the lower difficulty, veterans on the hard and people that want a challenge go on the most challenging difficulty setting, which in that game is called unfair.
