I remember when I first saw the viral video from @actuallyarcane (just google her). You can see how blown away she is to just be able to create a character with her body type. I am a pretty manly guy but that got me a little emotional. That is exactly the type of reaction that illustrates how important inclusion in all facets of life is.
Now Diablo 4 has so much representation throughout (and the character design is just one aspect). Blizzard has made a lot of strides with WoW, Hearthstone, and now finally Diablo. The community however has some work left. I was really let down with the comments after the watch dev’s play event. Just because they weren’t professional gamers the bath faith players here tore into them.
Anyhow, to anyone who thinks gameplay is the only thing that matters, you are wrong! Diablo 4 was thr first game to be truly inclusive and the sale numbers speak for themselves.
youre implying that the game sold as many units as it did not because of the Legacy and weight behind the diablo franchise (albeit a lot of marketing as well) but because of inclusiveness. This is completely off base and youre line of thinking is blurred by this weird narrative. Inclusion is great and all but that is definitely not the reason it sold so well.
Actually gameplay is everything…Diablo 4 was/is succesful because of the reputation of the Diablo line of games and its many fans…
…whom, I dont think, ever felt excluded until this heaping mess of a game showed up. I def feel excluded from this particular ARPG from the aspect of what I think is fun or Diablo-like. D4 just aint it.

Even if I accept the premise that inclusion REALLY drives more sales as opposed to being an attrition factor for many properties that is simply touted because it is a way for corporate entities (whose boards are mostly out to lunch and detached from the properties themselves in any intimate way) to appear virtuous despite doing basically everything to the contrary in terms of business ethics, appreciation of the customer, etc…
You still have the problem of the actual audiences for these games being overwhelmingly male. Males, as a general rule, want to look up to and embody their ideal, even if virtually. They want to portray themselves as the cool guy, the fighter, the winner, the champion. Females are much, much more likely to want to make the world fit themselves as opposed to finding a way to fit into the world. That doesn’t make it a truism by any means, people vary a lot individual to individual, but you’re not going to beat that general trend with a strong imagination or deluded sense of the world.
There is no replacement population for gamers because the ladies aren’t broadly interested and too few of the guys share your view of the world. They are what they are, and they’re mostly dudes who’d like to be left in peace to enjoy their games without this stuff constantly shoved down their throats.
if I want to watch woke bs I would follow tiktok, reddit and various poisonous social media c.r.a.p. I just want to kill demons and it is so freakishly boring, I tried to play for 10 mins, but that’s enough for me. It is not happening.
