Titles pointless now?

if they ever invest in online player stats like they do in WoW or D3, we could put the title you earned in-game under your forum name,.

I think the point of titles was intended to be another customisation option for your character. It’s not supposed to be an accurate indicator of player quality or skill, so of course it is going to be frustrating if you are trying to use it for that purpose.

So, yeah, titles are the same degree of pointless they’ve always been. The problem is trying to read something more into them, not with titles themselves.

lol it bothered you so much that you turned the titles off, hahahahaha. You actually think you are good at diablo lmfao. What did ya do? Clear 25 with a hota barb? Real all star.

For me things like BL sorc just aren’t as interesting as other builds though. I have a BL Sorc, if I want to demolish something, she is who I fire up. If I want to have fun, I use another build.

I have a poison/stormclaw/catclysm/selig Druid - not a massively overpowered build, damage and gear spread to much to be OP, but he is hard to kill and I have huge fun playing him. In overworld content I think he is far more capable than my BL Sorc.

I have a Barb I was playing as HOTA, but whilst levelling it just wasn’t fun. I switched to thorns/fury and even at level 80ish he is more fun than my BL Sorc.

Before release the Bliz were talking about how they envisioned having well rounded characters you can do most things on (my Druid fits that template, I think) OR specialised builds that are good at one thing (BL Sorc). If you want to boss, you build a silly boss killer (BL, HOTA), if you want good fast generic builds you build something less broken.

Even on my BL Sorc I actually use Blizzard more, most of the passives and paragon for BL actually help out with Blizzard too (mana hungry, I trend to be fairly close). I honestly think Blizzard, if I put some effort in, would be an objectively better build. But objectively better generic build, it will never be the boss killer that BL, HOTA, combo rogue is. That is okay, it doesn’t bother me at all.

If you look at other current favoured ARPGs (not mentioning the grind gearing game…), you see builds for specific tasks (bossers, builds for specific mechanics), and generic builds. Personally I think that is a good approach for an ARPG.

As to the question - I think balance should be balance, not buff everything. But part of balance is realising that some skills and builds are stupid OP at some tasks, whereas others are good at more tasks. Then we as players get to choose, do we want a bosser, do we want an all rounder, do we want a stable of characters that cover our game play needs.

I just helped a player kill Lilith, BL sorc every time, I’m about to go farm wintertide, Druid. If I do Blood Harvest I tend to go Barb, frenzy/thorns is nice for relaxed game play.

Solo leaderboards were rarely fair in Diablo 3. Most people blasted in groups to get gems high, paragon high and maxed out augments. They then soloed higher GRs than they could before by a good margin of number and time.

Solo leaderboards rarely meant anything in Diablo 3.

True. Except I think they did a season with SSF. I did not really pay attention to how that went though. Did you? Did it get high participation? Were the leaderboards more fair? I would hope so, and if it worked maybe a version can come to D4 too.

Titles were pointless before too.

It’s gone beyond that in other games. Some
Guilds want full videos of the boss clear plus your gear and stats to even be considered for a raid team.

And that is what D4 will become about 3 days after they introduce raids.

I believe the current season is the SSF one. I suspect the participation may be skewed toward slightly unreliable numbers due to D4’s seasonal concurrency and (relatively) new shinies smell.

Solo leaderboards are 100% of D3 SSF.

They always were pointless.

I did not pay much attention to that season. It would be interesting to see how it played out. That would be the first legit solo leaderboard in the game.

Balance aside, seasonal powers are intended to push capabilities into the stratosphere in order to further encourage participation. This design, along with grouping, renders titles and leaderbords somewhat redundant anyway.

If you attach your self worth to a video game achievement then you need to take a step back and maybe talk to someone.

If that’s the case they should just make all titles available. Why do I need to kill X to get titles Y and Z? Or complete the season journey? For example. Why not give everyone the option to choose Hatred’s Chosen instead of making them PvP. Why PvP at all?

Titles had become pointless and one of the reasons is because the process of getting them has no meaning at all.

I try to make the most obnoxious title I can. Never thought about peacocking. Strange if that’s what people care about

Speak for yourself. Lots of people liked them and the only people who didn’t were people who couldn’t get on them. Sounds like you were the latter.

Because collecting them is part of the minigame, the same way you collect wardrobe appearances or mounts or horse armor without ascribing some kind of value system reflecting skill.

Presumably because one enjoys PvP.

Actually, I did get on them. Thanks for trying.

My WoW “the Bloodthirsty” title is the only title I’ve ever given a poop about, I tried for the Black Harvest but I’m a potato IRL so Bloodthirsty it is!

Diablo titles don’t seem to carry much weight tbh.
