Really tired of the horrible roll of the dice when tempering and bricking gear.
I’d rather grind for materials to spend on tempering than take my chances of #1 actually landing the spec I want and #2 the level of the effect.
I’m sitting on mountains of useless materials only to roll a dice to see if I get a temper from a group of tempers? Plus the RNG is so bad. How many times have you bricked gear trying to get the one out of four and you keep getting this same temper that you don’t want over and over? Annoying.
I’m also tired of having to re select the temper over, and over. Just have it queued up once selected and let me keep on trying.

Same thing here :
Tempering math that does not work: two levels of randomness: let’s say 1 affix you’re looking for out of 4 (= 3 useless depending on your build) and 3 levels of value (low middle high) = MINIMUM 1/12 chance to really get what you want for 1 affix. However, statistics follow the law of large numbers, so it can be way worse in practice. That was for one affix.
With two affixes, if you are defending Diablo IV devs, you would say you have 1/24 chances to have exactly the combination you are looking for. But in practice, it is wrong and it would be 1/12 * 1/12 = 1/144 , = 0.69% (69 => seems almost like a message they were sending us).
With an amulet, you have max 10 chances (5 rerolls with 1 reset max): if you have finally found the right item, you have anything between 10/24 chances (the optimistic Diablo Devs view, which is wrong) and 10/144 to get the affixes and high values you are looking for in reality.
=> it does not work. Either the loot needs to be tailored with an algorithm understanding the build and items you are looking for, then randomness can be tolerated as the loot quality and relevance offset the randomness, OR, the Devs just stop limiting the tempering reset limit. Temering reset scroll / items could be found only in Infernal Hordes 10 waves as an example. Unlimited reset.
Many options and solutions exist, but today, the Debs chose something that just does not work and is only fitted for the 1% players spending at least 50h a week playing.
I’m now out of the game until it’s fixed. Ciao.
Ps: and it does not make ANY commercial sense: anyone who had the hand on the wallet to buy some cool skins or so and got great items destroyed with useless affixes while tempering is just going to play another game. Players don’t play hardcore for some reasons: avoiding the feeling of having ruined and wasted something you spent time building.
