Time not respected, 80-100 level grind is just not fun

Burnt out, and on my way out. I’m only making a post because I really did have fun and I think it’s such a close thing to keep people like myself around. So I play a Sorc and I made it to lvl 91 playing every day after work, not missing a single day. I played the only two viable sorc builds you can if you want to clear properly. My only issue with the game really is how ridiculously long it takes to level. A bunch of my friends who took time off from work when the game came out got 100 fairly quick for obvious reasons.

Leveling was easier at launch before dungeons got nerved. If they are going to put out the next season after only three months, making my current character obsolete on the eternal server. Make it faster to level. I grind for reward, I love tweaking my builds, and getting new items, but Oh I got one more paragon point, mehh. If it wasn’t so mind numbingly boring leveling in the same stuff and I got to 100 early, then I could just make an alt.

I heard they plan on buffing nightmare dungeons. Well good, but unless they are going to buff them by like 5x more xp or more, then it’s still not enough. People’s motivations are stupid. I’ll farm for 50 hours for a particular item but 50 hours just to level up too I have a better roll on the item I want is a bit much.

The balancing of classes it horrid. Should I play a fire build? Hell no, it’s trash compared to ice shards. There are loads of issues that I could go into, but I just don’t care, all of them would be forgivable and fine, if the leveling experience was not just bad. They don’t want you to finish too quick and have nothing to do, but it’s worse to make it such a grind that I never get to finish. At least I would have alts to work on if I got tired at 100 and wanted a change. The thought of getting on my 60 barbarian to do some more leveling when my sorc is not even done is not a great feeling.

So my only fix for them would be to give a gigantic xp reward at the completion of a nightmare dungeon that increases with difficulty. The amount of xp should be at least 1/3 of a xp bar at level 90. They could also weigh certain NM dungeon effects more, you know the ones we hate to do because it slows us down, but could be fun if it was more rewarding, do that. Incoherent rant over.

Break that stuff up a bit before you get 100 replies of “wall of text crits me for X%”.

So… don’t do the grind and wait to see what the next season brings.

That’s how Arpg’s are best enjoyed in the modern era. Play until you no longer are having fun, take a break, come back with a new season and repeat the cycle.

and the fact you need 85+ for the most rare items it seems is also a disrespect of time for sure. I am lv 74 now I am loosely enjoying the game until the season starts but Im not grinding my eyeballs out.

I don’t get why the items in this game don’t feel better, I am not asking for diablo 3 level of insanity items, even diablo 2 had some crazy items but the items in diablo 4 just suck over all. Again all the lessons learned from diablo 3 got 100% ignored and they repeated THE SAME LOOT MISTAKES! They should have less items drop, but have them be more meaningful.

Yeah off topic from the grind to 100 but loot is also a grind they should do something different for leveling, and for the loot grind to respect the players time in both areas.

It’s a hard battle Blizzard has to fight between the leveling is too slow ppl and the there’s nothing left to do ppl.

I personally don’t think an hour per level in the 90s is much…

Have you played Diablo 2 past level 90? Or WoW Classic 50-60?

You’re not missing anything. Nothing special about being 100. There isn’t any content to consume at 100. You are right, after nerfs 80 to 100 is unsatisfying. The other aspect is it ruined dungeons density to where that’s not any fun. Yeah after you hit 100 you’re more inclined to run an alt but its the same problem. So many issues with alts as well. Must be wonderful that all your friends hit 100 with demise and you’re basically excluded from their content until you grind for 40 to 60 hours to finish 80 to 100. Happened to my friend too I have 100 and they’re stuck in the '80s so they just quit.

The problem is the game should feel DIFFERENT at lvl80, not just “more of the same”, and that’s not just the problem with lvl80, I’d argue it’s the case with lvl50 also…

D2 people want farmable runs, Streamers want a post lvl80 content, other “pros” want more seemless leveling with no “breaks”, some want easier leveling and “no stops”, and everyone else… not sure what they want

BUT have to agree with one thing, about 90% of what people ask for is either the wrong thing, or inspired by a wrong reason

The game HAS TO be slowed down, that much is definitely certain… Now I don’t think the right way to slow it down is low XP gain in late WT2/WT3 phase of things, the right way is to make the fights trickier, mobs have more exaggerated strengths and weaknesses (or at least to a point) and such is the case with skills & gear overall

The main reason why people ask for “more content” is largely due to the fact that the current content is “trivial”, or at least conditionally-trivial. What Blizz seriously needs to take a look at is the reasons why some of the content currently is “trivial” and just nerf those options

That being said, Chance is Shouts, Unstoppables, and similar things like that really get hit by the nerf button (or at least should), in return should take a look at the most annoying aspects in the game but those that are actually based on troublesome experience/s of players (not the “this is not convenient enough”)

I’m sorry but have to say this:

Ignore the “this is not conveninent enough” type folks (at least for a while)

Ignore the “leveling takes too long” folks (although it does, the need and reason is to make it more fun and versatile experience, not cut length of it)

The game simply just HAS TO be harder (in general) except in places/phases where it is struggle and grind already… I’d say just give us paragon levels earlier and then nerf all the “exploits” that make the game easy/repeatable (shouts, CD-red. Grizzly rage, perma-CC sorc, & similar)

I’d even go a step further to say that WT3 & 4 should be combined into one (much like WT1/2) and then completely RESET the map (i.e. remove Renown at WT1/2) and give us a more “dialed up” and nuanced experience from scratch with a greater attention to defense and defensive aspects, and broadened affixes & options vs “buffed up” mobs, see from there how it goes…

K cool  all these people complaining prob never leveled to 99 in D2… 1.09 grind to 99 was a job. Why does everyone think you deserve to hit 100 just for logging on.

Play the game and have fun, if your not having fun than perhaps D4 or aarpg isnt your cup of tea.

Some (most) people do have lives, If my younger diablo 2 Era self could see my old, married tired working a** i would be laughed at: but truth is time moves forward not backwards, my time is important and blizzard forgets that for all of us and does not respect it.

Your time isn’t respected?

It’s a video game, you toddler.

If you’re “grinding” to level 100, you’re going out of your way to make it unfun for yourself.

Once you get to WT4, congrats, you’ve beaten the game. There’s no need to grind anything. If you want to continue playing that character for fun, you can continue gaining levels. If you don’t, don’t.

I mean, the poster below you kinda nailed it.

But the genre is an arpg, it’s designed to be a time sink. This isn’t a quick candy crush level, or a quick cod match.

To be fair either of those games can be huge time sinks in their own right.

Not sure what being a husband and father has to do with a solo self paced arpg.

Overall this is 100% accurate.

The game ends when you decide. Once you reach a certain power point in all ARPGs you’re basically just playing a ton to go up 5% in power.

So, play until you no longer have fun and keep playing until then as someone feels they need. There is no reason, imo, to feel like level 100 is a need in this - just like D2 had no real need for level 99

I’ve seen this a bunch and it’s so true. But…

Why do you think you need to get to level 100? And why do you think not being 100 means Blizzard doesn’t respect your time?

Yes yes and 1000 times yes . BUMP

In wow it’s expected to be this long because is an MMO where you are constantly growing in power. Also at 58-60 the game really starts and there’s an endgame to chase.

In D4 once you’re 85-100 you’re done and there’s nothing to do.

You don’t need 100. Stop when the fun stops.

50-100.

I think the max level should have been 80 and raised to 100 with an expansion. I’m still slogging through with my druid. I’m currently 73.

After reaching 50 (a real slog), to me the fun stopped in around 65, kept pushing to see if there was better loot at 75 and I hated the game even more and quit.
