Tier Set > Borrowed powers

Why choose borrowed power over tier set? Seems like Blizzard didn’t learn anything with WoW. The only thing borrowed power provoke on players is to drop the game earlier because these power make your char more OP than intended and loses the notion of difficult. And if you made them weak, then it is just a waste of time to try to level it to your gear. So, there is no reason to put them as main point for seasons.

Just make tier set, limit Legendary and Unique you can equip, but, above all, make the talents more significant, more than the half of talents from all classes are boring, 80% are like “do more damage if” or “you are more resistant if”, none of them are game changer.

In my opinion, playing a lot of Dungeon Crawlers and MMORPGs, when the gear is to make you stronger by stats, and you can choose what is your play style without gear is when the game gives the real freedom to choose the way you want to play.

The idea of Unique and Tier Sets is to maximize any build by enhancing the play style, for example: if your talents make you throw a lot of spike of ice, make them explosive and doting for a % of final damage in a certain time, then unique probably do “your projectiles skills do % more damage” or “every time you hit with a projectile skill, increase your total damage by %”.

Tier Set will do the same, but the idea, is tier set are more rare or difficult to get, because the multiples effect they provide are stronger and multiples, like:

  • 2p: your projectiles skills apply vulnerable for 3 seconds and you do % more damage to vulnerable targets
  • 4p: when your projectiles hit an enemy with multiple negative effects, each effect increase by % the damage it receives from you.

Why limit uniques and legendary? If the gear you equip is very powerful and you limit the quantity you can wear, you make them more valuable and player will focus their time in one system (talents) than multiple system taking into consideration the gear they can get in their journey.

If there is no borrowed power, how season will be more special and uniques? There is a lot of factor to make a season more original and memorable, such as:

  • Events and mini events
  • New enemies
  • Stories to feed the lore and main plot
  • Zones and or mini zones
  • New gear (uniques and tier set)
  • More talents and skills
  • Thematic Art of some points mentioned before

For sets, do you mean some mechanic on top of regular gear, or replacing regular gear? If the latter, as has been pointed out countless times by myself and others, aspects aspects perform the same basic function as set bonuses except they are more flexible and don’t require multiple pieces of gear.

For a 2 set bonus to be viable, for instance, it would have to be at least as strong as 2 aspects, and no one is going to equip it until they have 2 pieces…so it may as well not even exist.

Now I don’t doubt we’ll get set pieces eventually, but if they’re not done in a different way than D2 and 3, they’d have to be really powerful to be viable (power-creepy) otherwise they’re just a more limiting, redundant version of aspects. Neither one of those is that great, and I doubt Blizzard has the ingenuity to make them different and interesting.

Yeah, I mean, the problem is that, currently, Legendary fill the existence of the tier sets, making players spend time on multiples systems (talents, gear, codex, tempering and enchanting) and that is bad.

Gear should just give power in one way or another, such as improving the build. Now the gear and codex are the center of the builds.

I mean, maybe, they get out of time or/and ideas forcing them making the build gear dependant. If you see how the best mmorpg manage gear and talents, builds are more focused on talent systems and the gear is to improve the build with stats and with multiplicative augmentation you don’t need to worry about power creep.

So the “borrowed power” term and concerns originated in WoW? Or at least were a thing there before becoming so in D4?

Aspects kind of are sets in a way

Genuine question, can we do without equipping boss power?

Our character skills still viable?

what are tier sets? do we need RNG to collect the set? is it a rubik’s cube within a rubik’s cube?
we already have aspects and the freedom of imprinting.
