Charms were a big part of D2 and many players did like them.
They allowed your build to be more diverse and go in different directions and added another layer of depth. As well as added +1 to skills, defense and/or magic find or more.
They ranged in size from small, to medium to large and XL - Grand charms - with Skill points and benefits.
It would be cool to see; Charm Wise, in any shape or size and combo:
- Poison Damage
- Cold Damage
- Fire Damage
- Magic Find %
- Resist(s) and All resists
- Skill Points
- Defense or Armor
- Stats
- faster run walk
- faster
- mana and life regen
- resource regen
- gold from monsters
- attack rating / speed / crit
- maximum damage / min damage
- gives auras or buffs
And then Blizzard could also make legendary charms and make them a little rare or that a player can only carry/use “x” amount at a time and add some very cool affix’s / combos.
What are your thoughts on charms and having a charm inventory tab for them, just like quest items and aspect inv tabs?
I am personally all for it and love charms.
Thanks for reading!

People will just aim to stack a single type of them. Usually skillpoints.
I really dont want to see them again.

I could see that, but just like in D2…make them only appear on the largest charm that takes up the most space.
So players will weigh out space vs +1 skill point?
Or make it so +1 skills only appear on leggo charms and players can only use a max of 2 of them at a time?
Just thoughts and ideas.
Charms yes, charm inventory no

Make it small. 1 large, 1 medium, 1 small. Or make them all unique equipped for the type. So you can only have 1 of each affix.
Skillpoints can already appear on gear, and you can gain like +13 skills from additional sources beside actual skillpoints if i remember right

So charms adding skillpoints as well would be an extreme buff.
Charms NEED their own inventory space or it is a waste. There is too much stuff that should have its own inventory already that don’t so charms would just make it far worse.
The charm inventory doesn’t have to be the size of our normal inventory but it could be something like our equipped gear with certain slots for certain size charms. Maybe give us so many charm slots for each of the three sizes and make it so we have to pick and choose.
To each their own.
I thought about having a charm tab as well. Similar to how we have one for aspects, but at that point it might be better to make them like Last Epoch idols and have a space on the inventory screen.
well it could be a mechanic added later into the game, but with their own tab and inventory slot. But they shouldnt be build defining like LE. Just some nice little additions.
But no mf or gold find in a game that has trading
Simply add 3 equipment slots:
Small Charm
Large Charm
Grand Charm
And let them have minor boni to not throw off balance.
Having them clog up the inventory isn’t exactly what I would consider to be modern day game design and having an extra inventory that you can fill with them will only add to power creep and damage numbers getting out of control.
Filling your inventory with 7 skill charms with 45 to life, and Anni, gheeds, torch, and then MF resistance charms while putting anything that drops into the cube isn’t really diverse or fun to me
What aspect of it made it diverse? From my experience you just stacked skills or in some instances 3/20/20s and called it a day… a bad day because to acquire enough stats you now don’t have an inventory. Maybe they’re in games like PoE and done better? I don’t know, I haven’t played those games
I guess from a leveling perspective it was kinda fun and interesting / diverse
Games like PD2 did nice with the charm inventory, but there are better ways to balance the game and get the power you need without a bunch of skill charms. Everyone ends up doing the same thing in these instances which is stacking skills unless you’re physical dps
Personally, unless I’m forgetting something, I’m fine without them in D4, whether they take up inventory space or not. Removing your whole inventory for power doesn’t become a choice when it’s as strong as it was in D2. It becomes a really really annoying necessity.
Thinking over it, the glyphs for the paragon board would be similar to that take?

Since they apparently also drop (don’t ask me for a source) and equip into a slot - yes - you could totally argue that they are equipment that gives you a minor bonus.
Why do people want awful mechanics from past games in a new game? This is as bad as the guy who was angry and though D4 lacked complexity because it doesn’t have scrolls of identify and town portals anymore.

A clear example of fearing change and being unwilling to adapt.

I’m ok with adding charms but having them take up inventory slots are part of the balance of them. Giving them their own inventory wouldn’t make sense.

I wouldn’t mind having charms since they were pretty interesting bonuses without having to respec or switch out gear. The only issue I had with Charms in D2 was that they took up most of my inventory space. If they had their own tab and that tab was small to limit the number of charms, I would like it to be implemented in D4 in the future.
EDIT: As far as your list of benefits charms could provide, some were too strong. Charms shouldn’t be the end all be all. Here is a better revised list:
- Poison Damage
- Cold Damage
- Fire Damage
- Storm Damage
- Earth Damage
- Minion/Companion Damage
- Shadow Damage
- Blood Damage
- Physical Damage
- Magic Find %
- Resist(s) and All resists
- Defense or Armor
- Stats
- faster run walk
- life regen
- resource regen
- gold from monsters
- attack rating / speed / crit
- maximum damage / min damage
Blech, dislike charms. Theyre something we dont want but feel the need to carry around. No point, I think we already have enough stat diversification.

Literally the weirdest form of thinking I can imagine. Here is a little boost of power but you need to suffer in some way. Like what? How on earth is that “balanced”?
They should add charms in the way charms actually are: small attachments to items.
max charms would be limited to the items you can hold and or wear. Add a charm to a sword. etc. hot swapable
