No, I don’t mean the silly A+B combos in sockets, I mean the 18 freaking runes you need to craft a specific item.
That’s actual runewords, in spirit.
Blizzard really got us on that one, huh?

I wasn’t hype for rune words, but they are by far the biggest winner of the xpac.
They give you so many creative ways to cram new kinds of power into your build. I’m using a petrify runeword on a preparation rogue and it is the most fun I have ever had in a game like this.
Then the collecting to make mythics is fun even if the 6 count for leggo runes is too high. I don’t think you’re supposed to reroll Leggo runes. The best way to go about it is to keep an eye on trade, and trade for them. Like baseball cards. You need some runes for Shako? Someone will have those runes, and you’ll have the runes they need for their Tyrael’s Might. That is an awesome community interaction when it happens.
Runewords themselves are fine. Maybe even good.
Acquisition is pretty crap. Not having any way to deterministically acquire some of the rarer ones feels pretty terrible, especially if you aren’t a trader.
I played Diablo 2 but never made it to runewords, and the same happened in Diablo 3 with the similar system. I also don’t think runewords are completely new in Diablo 4—we already had malignant hearts and vampire powers, which were pretty similar. That said, using skills from other classes or even freeing up a skill slot with my own class has been more fun than I expected. However, crafting with runes is awful. I managed to craft two mythics I wanted, but I got the worst possible Greater Affix. I don’t think I’ll be able to craft another one anytime soon.
Yeah, I’ve found the “Villager’s” and “Remains” combo to be very potent.
I didn’t mind it, was able to salvage crap I didn’t want or need to get an updated Andy’s Visage.
What I do mind though is it freaking rolled the GA on max poison resistance LOL.
Runewords add customization, depth, and loot relevance to a game that’s lacking in all three categories. Their next move should be a currency exchange that allows you to trade items like runes, boss mats, rawhide, etc., without actually having to coordinate (add friend, create party, perform transaction) the entire process. It’s probably the nicest QoL feature in PoE.
Rune words are good and honestly the d4 rune system is way better then the d2 rune system although the system in d2 of converting runes to the next one was better then d4
I like that you can take skills from other classes and put them in your builds with Rune Words.
I think it’s cool. I like the different options I am being given. And as for the Mythic crafting, I don’t mind. I already have a Tyreals Might and a Shako and I did not need to trade. I could craft the shroud too but I’m about to go ham on some bosses since I once again have a plethora of summoning mats and it would suck if I got a crafted drop. Not the worst but I’d rather kill bosses first.
I do feel bad for those who did not get the expansion. They can only spin the wheel and pray.
not really. just tried to unsocket poc+que and they got destroyed. so pretty much waste of time now trying to find those 2 yellow runewords.
the applications are a bit limited. There aren’t very many combinations that will actually do something worth using.
The two that I have used make the builds interesting to say the least.
In a video, I saw the player who exploit duplication thing and then own 100 runes each type and just craft same mythics for more stars. It’s getting out of control tbh.
I’m not a fan of this but how does this impact your game?
Does it only triggers the envy?
Ignore such guys and you will maybe have a more happy life.
To the op.
I like the addition of runes. And i think in the future, there will be upgrades to the system.
Diablo 2 had it’s most used runewords also added via later patches.
I use 2 rune words on my necro. It’s actually a brilliant feature. I use the 25% critical chance rune and the Decrypify rune. It frees me up from 1 whole skill slot!
The crafting of runes is very bad. In D2 you could take 3 of one rune and make another. You knew what you were aiming for. This RNG system in D4 is trash and should be changed.
The runewords themselves are great. I’ve used 4-5 different combinations and they’ve all felt good / impactful.
Mythic crafting isn’t my favorite. Just forces you to run boss rotations because there’s no other good way to obtain legendary runes.
yes rly op to have perma druid shield … xd
I wish the runewords are outside our existing sockets. I.e, there are dead space between the Equipment nodes and the Character model. Blizzard can easily make a rune word box on each node to represent RuneWord sockets.
Better yet, make a new tab. They did it before in Season 2 with Vampire nodes. That was brilliant. Why did they not ever reintroduce that back into the game. We are at Season 6.
good point , vampires was best season mechanics so far
Yea, we had a whole new tab page with like 6 Runes we can combine? That was fun as hell and very imaginative. Even the malignant Heart system was nice. Why on earth did they reduce these features to aspects and malignant rings is beyond me.
