This game is.....boring

Disclaimer: this is my personal opinion. I am well aware that it will not be shared among everyone. You are welcome to disagree, and post as such. However, I will offer my reasoning for my opinion nonetheless.

I played at release, and then a few weeks later, and then took a break until this season because I just couldn’t get into the game back then. I hoped this season would reinvigorate the game. It didn’t for me.

  1. Everything you do is exactly the same: The new season added vampiric powers and those “blood tide” events. Except…the blood tides are just a reskinned version of Helltides, which is also a reskin of the PVP tides. They are all exactly the same thing. I have to farm helltides for materials, I have to farm blood tides to upgrade my vampiric powers, and I (choose) to farm the PVP area for more gambling. WHY couldn’t the new seasonal content be designed to be DIFFERENT in some way? Why is it an almost 1 for 1 copy/paste?

  2. Dungeon crawling to upgrade my glyphs and get items is…repetitive. Every dungeon is the same pattern: you complete 2-3 rounds of “slay x”, “collect animus”, “find key”, etc. Then you fight a boss. Then you win. For an open world and different dungeon designs…why is the gameplay so much the same? I hate to do this, but look at PoE’s extra content by comparison: there are numerous avenues for the player to receive a DIFFERENT play experience in order to break up the monotony. This doesn’t exist in D4.

  3. Itemization is awful: It is incredibly expensive and difficult to craft items. You can only craft 1 mod onto an item, relying on random drops which 99% of the time are useless. The items themselves are better than D3 (except legendaries and lack of sets), but they are still inadequate. Uniques are few and far between.

  4. The CC…perhaps my characters just aren’t strong enough yet, or maybe much later in the Paragon board I get the chance to start building CC immunities, but when I get hit by a random normal skeleton and get stunned for damn near 3 seconds, I just want to throw my keyboard across the room. This coupled with fear, frozen, silence, blind, etc. mean that half my playtime is spent CC’d. That is entirely too long. I do know the skills to use to get out of CC but it happens so frequently that I am on CD for most of those moments.

All in all, my boredom stems from the needlessly repetitive nature of the game, the lack of itemization interest and customization, and the fact that, even during fights, I spend a great deal of time with no control over my character. I get that a grinding game like this, like all diablo games, will have SOME form of repetitiveness in gameplay but D4 is basically 5-10 minutes of unique content, rehashed and reskinned over and over and over again. That is just far too little to do.

Never played ARPG before?

They are all grindy.

They all have the same basic idea of repetitiveness.

This isn’t a new concept.

But you do you🤷🏻‍♂️

You basically described the entire aarpgs genre. Maybe they arnt for you and that ok. You could try BG3. Its a completely different genra but its turn based which is why ill never play it. Point is there are plenty of games out there but not all games are for everyone.

Yeah they had the nerve to ask a base price of $70.00 for an unfinished game,Asking/Demanding elite prices for boring cosmetics, Bad&Boring itemization,Boring skills,Very lttle stash space,Boring characters…Frankly I don’t really see anything worthwhile in this POS Game however I havn’t given up hope yet since while D3 was never/will never an inspired game it eventually became OK After 5 or 6 years and if D4 sticks around long enuff it might too Big MIGHT…

i stopped at “my opinion”

its simple… if its that boring for you uninstall play something else… start a steam fundraiser make ya own game.
its that simple…

unlike the community that reached out and dev’s listened, they wont change the game due to its “boring to me”

diablo from its get go of d1 has ALWAYS been repetitive… endless runs for loot… its how this arpg won its community over and its fame… lore, blasting, lewts

but nice word salad

I only play arpgs. Always have, always will. I’ve played ad nauseum practically every single one since 2000. There are VERY few that have made me as bored as D4. I did mention that in my post. Its the type of monotony that is the problem, and the degree of it.

It has less repetitive end game loop than D3. I dont think itemization is the core issue there is a significant lack of interesting uniques to chase in the game and there is just was to much loot dropping. Rare items are not rare by any sense of the word because every monster is a loot pinata.

It will be interesting to see what they come up with in S4.

A 75% off sale maybe?

Sure, all aarpgs are grindy. Some are just more fun than others.

That only helps players who get banned for ToS infractions. They already have there core sales so yes the game will go on sale again just like every other game that gets release today.

This is true. D4 is leaps and bounds better than D3. D3 was more an arcade game and not really an aarpg.

I feel that way too. D4 has a nice base (e.g. vastly superior bounty system than D3) but the content becomes too repetitive. And while other games, say PoE have a similar problem with the grinding, at lest there you can switch between types of content that feel substantially different. If D4 manages to make it possible to obtain each “reward” from at least two different sources (or game mechanics) in the future, then it may feel less repetitive.

The Game is not that boring imo, It just can’t compete with other things that are more fun.

It’s just that BG 3, 3 Versions of WoW and Blade & soul are more worth my time atm.

There’s a vamp power that gives your dodge immunity. Either the multi-dodge or reduced-dodge-CD on hit boots go well with it and let you keep it up nearly indefinitely.

Everything else is a problem with the game still being new but adding content like it’s been out for a decade.

i don’t find the game being “new” a valid excuse for anything: the game was being developed for a decade. It was “new” 10 years ago.

personally i am enjoying d4. it will keep my attention quite well till helldivers 2 comes out. then we will see which i dedicate more time to. its all going to depend on what they bring in s3. hope the theme is atleast fun. s3 is going to include easter, so i hope they include a monty python evil bunny that slays people like the butcher

I think most of us did, however D4 hits differently, in a bad way.

All games are boring eventually. this game just gets there quicker than most.
Really that first 50 levels the first time you play is not that bad. It is after that and then doing it again that are the problem.
The only reason the game was tolerable the first time you leveled is because you thought there was something at the end of the rainbow. Now that we know there is just an empty pot there it is boring 100 percent.

You need to keep in mind that the concept for Season 1 and 2 was decided long time ago. Season 3 is the first actual season after the negative backlash from players.

I’m quite confident that S3 will bring a lot of replay value to this game even though we are not getting the itemization overhaul until S4.

i think they started on s3 just before launch or right after launch. dont see it as the after all the negative feedback per se. i think s4 is the one that is really going to start showing the changes for them listening to player feedback. but i hear the s3 team are devs that have worked on d3 seasons, atleast favorable ones.

OP’s review of raw potato:
This is my opinion. Very starchy. Doesn’t taste like cinnamon. Could’ve been better. 3 out of 7.

Thank you for your feedback!
