There is something very off about Lucky Hit procs atm

I found a ring with a perfect roll “Lucky Hit: up to a +24% Change to make Enemies Vulnerable for 2 seconds.”

So after some testing, this affix just barely ever procs. I could sit there attacking for a minute and it wouldn’t do anything.

To give this some perspective, comparing it to something like “Lucky Hit: Critical strikes with Shock skills have up to a 5% to form a Crackling energy right” I could literally fill-up the entire room with Crackling energy before I ever got the target Vulnerable with this.

Either it’s bugged or something is very off. Now I keep reading mix reports about FB/Xval procs as well. So I’m a little worried atm

Lucky hit doesn’t work the way I suspect you think it does.

If you think that affix means you have a 24% to make an enemy vulnerable on each hit, you would be wrong. What that means is that when and if you score a lucky hit, there is a 24% chance that it applies vulnerable.

Whether or not a hit is lucky is based on the lucky hit chance of the skill you hit the mob with. This ranges from very low (like 2% for Hydra) to moderate; I think Meteor might have a base chance as high as 30 or 35%. So, if you are expecting your hydras or Frozen Orbs (~4% lucky hit chance) to proc this affix, it won’t happen very often. Bonuses to lucky hit from gear or paragons are also multiplicative, not additive. So for example if you have 100% bonus lucky hit chance, now your Frozen Orbs have a whopping 8% chance to actually inflict a lucky hit, which will then 24% of the time make the enemy vulnerable, so in reality about one in 50 hits.

You can see the modified lucky hit chance for each skill in the skill tree if you turn on advanced tooltips.

As for X’Fals… Well, damage over time and Burning have very convoluted mechanics when it comes to lucky hit that are a bit different than how it works with direct damage. I have heard that there was a change made to how Firebolt’s damage over time interacts with lucky hit that wasn’t in the patch notes, which is probably what you’re hearing about FB/X’Fals.

I’ve been trying to test this and have been losing my mind. And everything I’m finding is before season 4.

Trying to figure out xfal vs nice s4 ring on a bliz build is comical through personal testing

Supposedly there’s now a guide on Maxroll that explains how lucky hit works with damage over time effects. I haven’t actually found it and read it yet, because after playing Firewall last season I’m not interested in doing a build involving Burning damage ever again, so I can’t confirm it actually exists or will help you.

what skill are you trying to proc it off of? some skills have higher lucky hit than others…
