There is a sadness in saying goodbye to your seasonal characters

i play 6 toons every season and have no issues with stash.

I must be heartless because I delete them way before the season is even over when I no longer need them anymore or they have outlived their uses. I do this without hesitation or a second thought. Not a drop of tear or compassion, they will rise again from the ashes of their digital grave someday.

You actually care about your characters? I just log in to the new season and instantly delete all of the previous seasons characters lol. They are pointless after it’s done so why even keep them?

I delete all seasonal chars. But the new ones i create will excactly look the same as the others. Same looks, same Names… feels like theyll never ever gone.

You mean the dead realm. Nobody is there playing.

If i would ever play on Etermal Realm i would call my hero He-Man :muscle:

Last season I spent some time taking advantage of the armory system. I sent the gear of a character to another of the same class and rebuilt their skills and paragon on the new character. It effectively quintiples the character slots.

I delete them as soon as the new season starts - items and all. It’s so nice not to have the tedium of stash cleaning and sorting every season.

If you dont play eternal, it’s the best way to go.

It depends. If you, like me, don’t give anything about Eternal realm then it’s very easy. Already deleted my season charakters and gear for the new season.
But that’s personal preference.

maybe. but i’m not so positive. asking for armory since release… getting it one year later and buggy, so they kept it disabled a little time, then reactivated… taddaaaa! saving/naming problems that doesnt exist before :woman_facepalming:

asking for loot filter… ignored… “interesting idea… but nah not our important goal for now”

so whats their goal as far?

money pass, cosmetics and all other buyable things?! collabs? making D4 “raidready” like wow massplay?

dont know :woman_shrugging:

Uhhhh… I just delete them and make a new one with same name. Manual rebirth since its not in d4 for some reason…

You’d be surpiresd. Not as many as on seasonal, but I always find quite some people there. Though the rebirth system from D3 would be very welcome.

who cares about this stuff

As with hero-stat-tracking, rebirth was probably just something they didn’t get around to. The game would’ve looked very different if it released when I suspect the devs intended, which is 1+ years later than it did. UI has always been the most tell-tale layer, the one with the most windows into their process.

Rebirth, hero achievement tracking & a bunch of other stuff will eventually show up - and that’s when we’ll get an idea of how much the premature release (as well as Rod’s corner-cutting management style & cluelessness about arpg design history) slowed down/ complicated D4’s development.

“2026” seems a bit too optimistic… unless they intend to make these a surprise feature of the expansion (or a pre-expansion patch), to sell more copies & pat themselves on the back.

I have been playing since release and haven’t deleted a single character. I wasn’t doing alts in the first seasons. I took the time to update their gear after all the loot reworks and have been playing with them in Eternal once done with the season.

I wish I could do season 8 but I don’t have any character slot left.

I used the Armory to test out some new builds, that’s really all I would ever use it for–save a Fireball build, then try out a Lightning Spear one.

Season is EZ mode. Eternal is much more challenging than Season, no exp/gold/power boosts.
The Eternal community is full of dedicated players. I play Eternal also. There are dozens of us.
I play season up until around 270 when it becomes a mindless pit slog. I look forward to the end of season where my gear gets rolled over to the Eternal Relm.

Which is pointless for people with limited time who need to do all the new seasonal content.

Honestly, I just cyclically delete them when I get to a season where I run the class again, and then I remake the exact same character with the same name and look, so I’m not really losing anything, but given that, it would be very nice if they just let us use the rebirth feature to preserve them.

I deleted all but one seasonal character last week. When i feel motivated, i’ll log to eternal, delete that character, and organize my stash from the season dump.
