There’s a lot I prefer about Poe2 that I don’t expect Blizzard to implement (skill/support gems, casting while moving…). However, there’s one thing I think they could and should learn from and that’s the atlas passive tree. Each endgame activity has a little tree that you can progress by doing that form of content to customize it to your preference and increase the rewards that you care about.
If we can steal greater affixes from last epoch we can get this too.

I think I read that somebody said D 4’s skill tree isn’t a skill tree, it’s a skill twig
I’m not against having more options/skills in the skill tree.
I found the skill tree in POE 2 daunting but interesting.
The more options the more build diversity after all. - if they would properly balance everything 1st…
Bring back D2 skill tree. Is that hard?
Without the roll back!
So less choices and synergy between your choices?

Sorry, I should have clarified more. I’m not talking about your characters passive tree (which I don’t think is any more complicated than the paragon board personally).
When you reach endgame and start doing maps you earn points to put in the atlas passive tree to customize maps. When you kill the breach boss you earn points to put in the breach tree. Every endgame system has its own little tree you can put points in. It adds a satisfying endgame progression system that’s more than just getting more levels and better gear.
We could have the same thing over here. Doing nightmare dungeons could reward points to put in the NMD tree slowly over time. Same with bossing, pits, under city, they could all have little passive trees to work towards.

I think this is a little unfair…the skill tree in POE2 is more similar to Paragon board in that it mostly gives bonuses that you can tailor to your playstyle and the support gems are like the skill tree in D4 in where you can change the behavior of a particular skill and or buff it. Now POE2 has a lot of support gems and they are not class specific which appears like a lot of variety but this is limited to a degree because you cannot equip the same support gem twice.
puts hands up I’m only going by what I read, not by what I believe.
Don’t we? You get XP, go up para and put that points in the para tree… Why have a third, fourth or fifth tree?
Ok, the game is simpler, but more skill trees?
I really would like to see the current XP trees a litlle bit more “user demanding”, like, for instance, no chance to roll back. If you make a mistake, my friend, it’s your fault.
After all, you don’t roll back your skills in real life, do you?
I feel like people aren’t actually reading the thread. I’m not talking about trees that customize your character, they impact the context itself and they’re very small/not complicated at all. It’s a different progression path not directly related to player power.

I believe you are correct.
I like the idea though, it could allow more player agency, perhaps at surface level an ability to focus or alter risk/reward ratio, and in a deeper way, customize the experience and rewards further.
Haven’t played what you are talking about specifically, but that’s what it sounds like to me?

Yea, like doing helltide of associated with living steel. Killing the living steel boss could reward points that allow you kind of customize the reward structure for helltide.

they should give endgame options for players with slower builds, tanky types or just normal builds that aren’t doing quatrillions of damage. atlas tree is a perfect example of it. imagine if you can spec all points to juice up nightmare dungeons, helltides or whispers and completely change how those play, so you never have to interact with pits again. imagine that.

Not interacting with stuff is tight!
The best thing they could steal is the concept of making a FUN GAME.
I am done looking at people faces in a campfire chat where you can see NO ONE enjoys and believes the words he has to say.

Blizzard should borrow 90% of ideas from PoE2.
