The Story Doesnt Make Sense (spoilers)

The revered elder of Akarat, Eru, betrayed us for a Devil? In the final moments of victory?!
I think he was the only elder that witnessed Akarat in both spirit and flesh.
The stone was sealed in the chamber of Light. It would have defeated Mephisto for good.

How did this Baby Boomer, who witnessed his patron deity in spirit as a Lion of Light, and in the flesh as a mortal, betray all of that?

Eru even carried Akarat’s mortal body to be violated by Mephisto.

Nani le Hell?

P.S
Eru killed Akarat by letting Mephisto in the Chamber of Light…

He killed his own deity…

Here’s some conclusions we know about the campaign an prior lore from the earlier games.

Akarat is a divine being. But like other divine beings in the spirit world he is not immortal. Abasi, also a divine being, dies in the spirit world due to Mephisto’s corrupting influence.

Every attempt to contain a prime evil in the series has failed.

In the series, each imprisoned Prime Evil escaped their Soul Stone in different ways:

  1. Diablo: Diablo was the first to escape his Soul Stone1. He managed to corrupt the Soul Stone from within, weakening its power and eventually breaking free. His escape led to a series of events that reignited chaos in Sanctuary.
  2. Baal: Baal was imprisoned in a Soul Stone by Tyrael, but he was eventually freed by Diablo. After his release, Baal disguised himself as Tyrael, deceiving and killing the angel’s allies. This deception allowed him to regain his strength and continue his reign of terror.
  3. Mephisto: Mephisto was contained in a new Soul Stone, but his influence still leaked out, affecting the outside world. He appeared in his black wolf form and summoned portals, further complicating the situation. Despite being contained, his evil presence continued to cause trouble.

Each Prime Evil’s escape had significant consequences, leading to a resurgence of demonic forces and challenging the heroes of Sanctuary to rise once more.

In the campaign Mephisto refers to his brothers as likely allies that will come to release him from the soul stone. This is a credible as Diablo helped release Baal.

Given this, it is inevitable that as Mephisto’s power continue to grow during his imprisonment, he will eventually either break free himself or his brother primes will come free him. After that time, destruction for Nahantu is almost certain.

Eru has reasoned this as the likely outcome, and further reasons the only way to prevent the destruction of his homeland is to bargain with Mephisto.

It does make sense to me.
