The sorcerer nerf is much, much worse than it seems

  1. Most meta builds use an amulet with a GA Devouring Blaze passive and it’s by far the strongest item. Just the nerf without any side effects translates into the damage being almost HALVED.
  2. With the nerf to the Fire Bolt enchantment, ALL non-fire sorc builds lose access to: damage from Devouring Blaze, mana regeneration from Fiery Surge, healing from Warmth (by far the most important self-sustain passive for all sorc builds) and the hugely important damage boosts and defensives from the Burning Instinct paragon board and the Flamefeeder glyph.
  3. Shroud of False Death will no longer be a competitive choice for the chest slot in terms of damage output. Every sorc build will have to run Raiment of the Infinite which translates into a huge nerf to overall stats, health and mana regeneration. Top top it all off, sorcs will take 12% more damage thanks to the Glass Cannon passive on the Raiment of the Infinite.
  4. All non-fire sorc builds will lose a 25% multiplicative damage bonus from Tal Rasha’s Iridescent Loop and a 5% multiplicative damage bonus from the Elementalist glyph.

The only way that the current sorc builds can be salvaged in S7 is if Blizzard forgets to fix the bug that causes Unstable Currents to always summon fire familiars to apply burning to everything. So yep, once again we will have a class that is only competitive because of a bug.

Sorcs needed a rework, not a massive nerf.

No one is playing s7 anyway. Blizz nerfing sorc on the way out is kinda based, though.

The more I think about the nerf, the funnier it gets

Think about it, if your game was about to collapse and you cannot do anything about it, are you going to be all sad and listen to feedback? Nah, you’re gonna do funny stuff like nerf sorcs and buff druid minions.

Im playing a frost sorc so I guess i’m nerf free?

Some of you are panicking before patch notes are out, on a PTR, for a season 2 months away.

Nope. You lose the fire based regeneration and damage mitigation passives. And frost is among the heaviest resource vaccuums the sorcerer has.

I agree entirely that the announced changes without some as of yet unannounced dmg compensation essentially breaks the class.

I would like to point out for the record (since so many well informed people seem to have this wrong) These changes have no impact on TalRasha. The ring was previously changed to proc stacks on a CAST of the dmg type, not dealing damage, therefore the enchant is already NOT proccing Talrasha stacks. The fire proc on Talrasha is currently being managed by Flame Shield and/or Familiars in most builds

Yeah, I really wish it would at least get a partial reversion so you don’t have to juggle two elements to keep the buff up. FO+LS sorcs barely have enough time to do this, meaning you are staring at your buff bar more than the playing field thanks to that one change to Tal Rasha’s. I’d much rather have Tal Rasha’s percent per element slightly nerfed in exchange for both eliminating the need to juggle two elements repeatedly and compensation to skills to make up for the rest. Not that Tal Rasha’s has ever been healthy for the class as it literally props up most builds being a rather high multiplier as opposed to the additive one it really should have been.

if they are headed in the direction, it looks like they are (elemental specialization vs multiple elements use for higher dmg) then I’m guessing Talrasha will be gone from all sorc builds before too long.

I want the 5-stack based on damage types dealt back now that we can run doom bringer!!! ANDY/DOOMBRINGER/TALARASHA master of elements build FTW

I would also seriously love it if Fractured Winterglass got the conjuration part removed and replaced with making frozen orb explode into an ice spike when it detonates. Then it could interact with ice spike aspects and we’d be free from the obnoxious tether to lightning spear when using it. As a frost oriented unique it should never have been saddled with conjuration affixes in the first place.

I get the sentiment but that is there for all conjuration builds not just LS. the changes they have already made in nerfing LS have made it virtually useless. I have a 3 star 65/90 sitting in my stash and can’t be bothered to even try one of my all-time favorites (FO/Hydra) because I know I’ll just be disappointed.

That said I will try that along with every other build I can think of during PTR, and plan to file a “War and Peace” length feedback on the class. It will break my heart if sorc is as worthless in S7 as it now appears that it will be based on currently available information.

Im not using fire based regeneration? I’m a frost sorc, the only fire im using is Hydra.

this is confusing on multiple levels… if you are running hydra, you can still get some of the benefits of burning dmg so the change is slightly less impactful. Also … you are running a frost/hydra build and not taking points in Firey surge or Warmth?

I’m using Permafrost, Hoarfrost and Elemental Synergies nothing on the fire side. My emphasis is Frost and Freezing Damage, Im using Hydras for the damage boost of using Familiars not necessarily the Fire Bonuses.

there is just too much things hinging on a burning enemy, things every sorc wants, not just those who play a firebuild.

i agree with the removal in theory, because currently most sorcs (are somewhat forced to) use the enchant because of said boons.
and freeing up choices is a good thing.

That is if there are compenstations elsewhere, to make up for the massive nerf this translates to, which currently seems to not be the case.
the whole enchant system could use an overhaul i think, most are somewhat boring or very conditional, and the biggest buff just got removed.

Interesting. I have always seen Firey surge as one of the biggest benefits of running hydra with FO, because FO eats mana like mad.

So you are really not using any fire-based passives? Out of curiosity do you mind me asking how high you are able to clear in pit?

Im not doing pits, On my Sorce I’m in Torment II. I could probably do Torment III but I haven’t attempted it yet. I’m comfortably smashing things in TII in seconds.

Gotcha. yeah T2 is where most of my pure play ice and fire builds felt comfortable. I like pit pushing so I’m essentially forced to play firebolt/shatter or LS this season to have any chance at reaching 100 (the intended max tier)

The only problem I have is larger boss killing. Since a lot of my damage is against the freezing condition, bosses that can’t be frozen take longer to kill.
